Mr. Hyena and I had always intended to combine our bank accounts after the wedding. At that point, it seemed like a “what’s mine is yours” situation—there was no legitimate reason to not combine accounts.
Except that we got married almost eight months ago and never got around to merging anything before now. We knew that it was something we both wanted. It would allow our household to run more efficiently and allow us to take control of our future in a more proactive way.
And yet I cried on the way to the bank, clinging to my measly checking account tighter than Gollum’s grip on the Ring.
It’s been quite difficult for me to reconcile that what’s mine really is ours. Read more…

Whenever I call my family, most of the time we end our conversations with, “Well, I’ve run out of things to talk about.”
Unfortunately, I have to say it to ya’ll today. I’ve run out of things to talk about, wedding-wise. So it’s time to pass the baton to the bees who are still planning and recapping, and say goodbye for now. Read more…

I’m finished with my recaps, but I’m not quite ready to sign off yet. I still have things to say!
After our wedding, I began the long, arduous journey of changing my name. Only it wasn’t really that long or arduous. I went to MissNowMrs.com, paid the $29 to use the service and filled out all the paperwork easy squeezy. Instead of having you fill out every single form individually, MissNowMrs provides one big form where you put in your maiden name/married name/address/other pertinent information, and then autofills all the other forms for you. GENIUS! Sure there are a few things to double-check on each form, and you still have to send out each form and the required IDs and licenses and moneys with ’em, but it was seriously not that difficult. Definitely recommend this, especially if you’re lazy like me.
Which leads me to the next part. I’ve talked here (and again, here) about my feelings on changing my name. I completely dropped my maiden name and took his, leaving my middle name intact. I do not regret my decision in the slightest. However, the day that I went to the DMV to get my driver’s license changed, I was convinced this whole name thing was a huge mistake. Read more…

I know budgeting can be a touchy subject, but I always found posts crunching the numbers to be useful. It can be difficult to figure out what percentage of your budget should be put toward each thing, and to that, I say choose your priorities. Then, put the major money toward those priorities. Nothing wrong with pretty things, but if you’ve never cared about flowers before, chances are you’re not going to feel good dropping eleventy hundred dollars on them now.
We were very thankful that the bulk of our wedding costs were covered by our parents. There were a few expenses here and there that we ate, but our families were very generous and for that we are extremely grateful.

It was almost the end of the reception. My feet were KILLING me.
I never planned to be a two-shoe gal. If I’m rocking heels, I’ll always wear them—or go barefoot—until the bitter, blistered end. Luckily our DOC had planned ahead, and she let me borrow some flip flops for the last 30 minutes of the party! Read more…

Like Mrs. Cardigan, one of the things we decided to include in our wedding is the Texas A&M Aggie War Hymn. I couldn’t find a great video of it, but you can get a good idea from this clip, in case you’re not familiar with it:
When the War Hymn comes on, all the Aggies sing at the top of their lungs and sway back and forth, “sawing off” the horns of the Texas Longhorns.
This is a big deal at Aggie weddings.
Mr. Hyena originally wasn’t sure he wanted to include it, and I looked at him like, “Dude. You’re going to want the Aggie War Hymn.” Read more…

A little while after we’d cut the cake, we decided to do our bouquet and garter tosses! I grabbed my toss bouquet and prepared to launch it into the crowd of ladies.

Our reception didn’t turn into a raging dance party, but our guests kept the floor pretty busy anyway. SIL Hyena called all the married couples out to the dance floor for the anniversary dance, and it was packed! She started eliminating couples based on how long each had been married. Mr. Hyena and I were the first to leave the floor, since we’d been married less than a day!

As soon as our first dance was over, I grabbed my mom and tried to haul her out to the dance floor in an attempt to get the dance floor rockin’. This didn’t really work. Remember, Hyena Parents don’t dance, so I let it go; people would dance when they wanted to. Instead, Mr. Hyena and I went around to visit with our guests, who were eating the delicious hors d’oeuvres, drinking good beer and wine, and having a good time.

I know family portraits aren’t that interesting to people you don’t know in real life, so I’ll try to get through them quickly. Some of these portraits were taken pre-ceremony, but in the interest of keeping this short and sweet, I combined the pre- and post-ceremony pics into one post.
