About Me: I'm a Texas girl who met my future hubby in high school, then headed up to Oklahoma for a college education (BOOMER SOONER!) before moving back to the Lone Star State to be with him. I love reading and recycling, Photoshop and reality TV, making lame jokes and then laughing at them, quoting movies, and Mr. Hyena most of all. I'm perpetually early and I like to get things accomplished. When my cat meows at me, I meow back. We're planning a laid-back, unintentionally DIY wedding with a cocktail-party vibe, and can't wait to celebrate our nuptials with our nearest and dearest!
I know family portraits aren’t that interesting to people you don’t know in real life, so I’ll try to get through them quickly. Some of these portraits were taken pre-ceremony, but in the interest of keeping this short and sweet, I combined the pre- and post-ceremony pics into one post.

Me and my parents

We had said our vows, given each other rings and served communion together.

Pastor Jason pronounced us husband and wife, and Mr. Hyena kissed his bride!

H-Dad and I arrived at the altar, and our ceremony began.

Friends, we are gathered together in the sight of God to witness and bless the joining together of Mr. Hyena and Miss Hyena in Christian marriage…

Just a few short minutes after our non-first look, the time had come! We were getting married NOW!
Pastor Jason came to pray with the women, then went to the groom’s area to pray with them.

The girls and I got lined up for the processional around the corner. The guys were all going to walk to the altar together with Pastor Jason, but my bridesmaids would walk right before me.

About an hour before the ceremony started, our photographer led me into the Sunday school room and made sure I was hidden behind a wall partition for our non-first look. Then, he brought in Mr. Hyena through the other door, between this room and where the guys were getting ready. Mr. Hyena reached around the wall for me, and I put my hand in his.

I’ll admit, I was sneaky. I did try to get a peek at Mr. Hyena. I saw part of his face.
He did not try to sneak a look.

Finally, we were ready to kick off our bridal party portraits! We walked out to a field on the other side of the church parking lot. How convenient!

It was time to get into The Dress. Portraits were starting soon! All the girls were ready except me!

Hyena Sis and Mom Hyena helped me step into the dress and somehow wrangled my “Sexy Little Bride” tank top over my veil.

Mr. Hyena and I had decided that we didn’t want to give gifts to each other before the wedding. Instead we decided to write each other love letters, to be read the morning of the wedding.

We wrote our first love letters to each other in high school; one of our senior class projects was to put together scrapbooks commemorating the year, and we were required to include things like essays about what we had learned about life during the year, as well as letters from others. Mr. Hyena and I wrote to each other, and we both kept those letters.

Before we could get married, we had to practice getting married! Our families arrived at the church on Friday evening after spending the afternoon at our venue setting up tables, chairs, linens, the bar and other little details in the muggy, stifling heat.
At the beginning of the rehearsal, the church coordinator got us all lined up at the front of the church. We were to begin part-way through the ceremony, work out the logistics* of our ceremony, then exit the church and practice the processional.
*To the best of my knowledge, ours was the first wedding to take place at our church since we moved into this new building about a year and a half ago. We needed to figure out the best way to have people stand, walk and serve communion without everyone tripping over each other.

It’s time for recaps? Are you sure? Okay, whatever you say.

Well, on a stormy weekend in May, the rain subsided just in time for the Hyenas to get to the church and tie the knot. Then after the ceremony we had a beautiful, fantastic reception. It was a glorious day. The end.

We never intended to save the top tier of our wedding cake. We had decided if we wanted cake on our one-year anniversary, we would go back to the bakery and get a new cake. We didn’t think we had ordered THAT much cake, but somehow we wound up with the top tier of both the wedding cake AND the groom’s cake after the reception.
Well, we thought while snacking on the groom’s cake topper, we’ll freeze (what’s left of) them before our honeymoon and do the traditional thing and eat them on our anniversary. But in the days before the honeymoon, we couldn’t get those delicious cakes out of our heads. One year was too far away! We agreed instead to pick one for celebrating one month of marriage, and the second for six months.

Pardon the messy stovetop. We’re still unpacking and getting organized!
Yeahhh…we had both of those toppers devoured within a week of getting back from our honeymoon.

I promise it looked fancier at the wedding. Here it was smushed and at a weird angle, and half-eaten of course.
They were calling us! And now that they’re gone, Mr. Hyena and I keep asking each other, “So there’s more cake, right?”

Unfortunately no. But we are for sure going back to get our one-year anniversary cake!
Are you planning to save your top tier(s)? Or, if you’re already married, did you manage to save your cake for a whole year?

After a few days chilling in Fort Lauderdale, it was time to board our cruise boat!
We got a suite with a balcony, and that was pretty much the best idea ever. We spent quite a bit of time reading and relaxing out there! And of course, you can’t beat the view in the morning.

Once the ship had set sail, our first stop was Key West!

We’re back from our honeymoon! So of course, I have to tell you all about it.
Imma break this down into two parts so I don’t crash your computer or phone with picture overload.
On the first day of our honeymoon we grabbed our bags, flew to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and checked into our hotel, which was right on Fort Lauderdale Beach.

First things first, we had to stand in the ocean! We took a long walk along the beach, barefoot in the sand. Can I just say how peaceful and relaxing this was? I think barefoot beach walks should be mandatory on like, a semi-daily basis. I need to figure out how to make this happen.
