Mrs. Husky, DenverAge and Occupation: 26, Systems AdministratorFiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Mechanical Engineer, recently laid offEngagement Date: August 14, 2009Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: Rancho San CarlosAbout Me: I am planning a quirky-crafty wedding with my recently out-of-work fiancé for a (fingers crossed!) warm October afternoon. We are two self-professed nerds with an affinity for all things outdoors---be it rain, snow or shine. Recently relocated from the drizzly Northwest, we're enjoying the many sun-soaked days in the mile high city. Our day will be filled with both of our large families and friends, a self-served Cajun feast, and a Zydeco-style jazz band rocking beneath the beams of a historic red barn.
I had originally written this post with the intention of it becoming my last published post before I became a Mrs. I failed. But the good news is, my “window in action” photo is actually—wait for it—IN ACTION! So that’s worth something, right? If you need a refresher, you can find it in Part I and Part II.
Three weeks had gone by since my tumble down the stairs, and as you may have gathered from my last post, my foot is full recovered. Now that all memories of my window disasters were starting to fade, it was time to resume my wedding-window-program. Here is the completed project in action:

On a perfectly crisp and sunny October afternoon, Mr. Husky and I wed beneath his hand-built arbor on the edge of a cliff, with a beautiful mountain backdrop. It was an amazing day that lasted well into the night, and, if I’m honest, well into the next morning.
I’m so sorry for leaving for so long. I can come up with a million and one excuses, like how the three days before the wedding were spent chopping, boiling, shredding, poaching and other catering-related tasks. Or the fact that there was zero cell or internet service at the wedding site. Or how the work-week between the wedding and the honeymoon was one of the busiest I’ve had. Or how I was away on the honeymoon, and Mr. Husky and I swore up and down to one another that we wouldn’t be computer-zombies the entire week. But I know all of you don’t care about excuses. So I will leave you with assurances that I will soon be back to my regular posting schedule, and a tiny little teaser of our wonderful warm October afternoon:

When I was younger, I always wanted to write for a newspaper. Not because I had any real desire to be a newspaper reporter, but because it seemed the only thing that would force me to write was a deadline. School papers were usually finished in the early morning hours of their due date. Toasts have been scribbled on a rehearsal dinner napkin. I suppose I just do better under pressure.
But procrastination has become a problem with my vows. Read more…

Having an outdoor wedding in October in Colorado can either be warm, sunny and mild, or cold, cloudy and bitter. Obviously, I hope for the former. Just look at the last three years in Beulah:

Last weekend, we Huskies did something neither of us ever thought we would be physically able to do. We ran a marathon. Twenty-six point two miles. At 8,000′ of elevation. And it was amazing.
The event photographer, Amanda, was the talent behind the lens that turned a sweaty and exhausted moment into such a beautiful and emotional embrace. Read more…

I left off with a hint of more broken glass, and another injury to my foot. Well, here it comes.
We had been implementing a major update at work that was as tedious as it was exhausting. I had warned Mr. Husky the week before that I would likely be a bit of a grump when I came home that day, and I lived up to my word. I was flat pissy.
The Husky-in-Laws had returned to stay with us for a few days, and we had decided to have a test-run of our self-catering plan. I knew I had to shake my bad mood, so I went upstairs to change into my running clothes. On my way down the stairs, my heel slipped on the edge of the stairs, I came tumbling down and my foot went directly through a window. I whacked my elbow on the hardwood stairs, and the numbness of my arm made me late to realize I had blood oozing from my sock, and shards of glass hanging from my foot.

I’ll tell you what: that did NOT help my mood.
Mr. Husky and his mom helped me get carried me to the couch. I was in pain, and very worried about the marathon that we were supposed to run in less than three weeks.

Last week, the state of Colorado granted permission for the Huskies to get hitched!

And while we’re all set on the marriage license front, we’ve had some changes to the roster regarding who will be marrying us.
I mentioned that Step-Husky would be performing our ceremony for us. But, I was hesitant. See, Step-Husky came down with a severe case of Shingles. Generally, folks can recover from this illness in 3-5 weeks. Step-Husky has been battling it for nearly 5 months.

We are among those who will be hosting several kids at our wedding. Both of us have lots of little rascals running around on all sides of our family gatherings. So, I loved the idea of creating a book to keep them occupied:

Inside they have lots of activities for the kids to keep entertained:

I’ve talked before about our decision not to have a first look. As many of you pointed out, this is a photographer’s nightmare. This means a photographer has only a short, precious time pocket to capture the pages-long list of must-have shots: Bride with Mother, Bride with Father, Bride & Groom with Mother, Bride with Sister, etc. I get it. But worry not—I have a plan.

In keeping with our low-waste goal, we decided not to print programs for the ceremony. But we still wanted to acknowledge our families, wedding party, and guests.
I thought it would be perfect for the ceremony program – one pane for the actual program, one to list the wedding party, one to give our thanks to friends & family, and one instructing guests to seat themselves.

I was immediately inspired when I saw some adorable napkin rings over on maya*made. It took some time for me to get on board with the project, because we’re using compostable tableware – including napkins. Wasn’t it kind of silly to make napkin rings for disposable napkins? No. No it was not:
Cute, right? The link above will give you some great instructions, but I modified them just a bit. Here’s how I made them: Read more…

Following the lead of many a bee before me, I created a PowerPoint map to send out in our invitations:
I *love* how it turned out! I know, I know, I still need to show all of you the full invitation suite. But, honestly, I haven’t gotten around to a paper photo shoot yet. So for now, I’ll leave you with instructions on how to make your own:

I was recently given a wonderful bridal shower, co-hosted by my two lovely aunts:
It was such a fun mix of friends and family - even FMIL Husky was able to come! It was single-handedly the most enjoyable shower experience I’ve ever had. Of course, it’s the only shower experience I’ve ever had in my honor! Read more…

I have more to say about our wine box ceremony. I know what you’re thinking. “Golly, why can’t she stop talking about this silly wine box? Doesn’t she realize she’s already written three posts about it?” And I know you say golly, even if only in your head. Admit it.
But this will be the last time I’ll bring it up—pre-wedding, anyway. It may get a shout out in my recaps.
When the Husky-in-Laws were visiting, we were discussing our substitute for the Unity ceremony. FMIL Husky pointed out a glaring oversight in my plan: the Unity ceremony is often symbolic of the joining together of the two families, and their love for the bride and groom. Read more…

So, remember when I was all cocky about growing my own flowers for the wedding? And you all were so kind and complimentary about my choices? Well I feel it’s only fair to tell you that if this were a school project, I would get an F. Because only about 50% of my flowers are exhibiting any kind of growth. But since I’m not in school, and I’m an optimistic, half-full kinda gal, I wanted to give you a glimpse of the progress so far. As a reminder, here’s what we were trying to grow:
