Out first ever weddingbee giveaway contest is officially closed! Your wonderfully creative diy project submissions were truly inspiring. Unfortunately there can only be one winner!
Many brides submitted more than one diy project for consideration. But we’re looking for the single project that you feel deserves to be the winner. So we’re going to have brides that submitted multiple entries compete against themself to narrow their entries down to the best one. Then we’ll have all 16 contestants battle it out one-on-one, round robin style until there is only one winner left!
Our first submission was sent in by Kelly.
Tuxedo monogram strawberries.

Save the date magnet and cardstock.

Lingerie shower cake.

Through the years table numbers.

Heart for back of trolley bus.

Howdy gals-
Here is my entry for the DIY contest. They’re my invitations and I totally love them! The pics of course do not convey their fabulousness so I’ll try to explain.
Each pocketfold had a custom name tag that was made from a capiz shell. I wrote the name of the guest in script on the shell, added a silver leaf charm with jewelry wire and then a dangly charm of some sort. No two were alike. They were held together with a jewelry binding so that they could be used as a pendant. Some of my guests are using them as a keychain.
The envelopes were really drawstring pouches made from antique silk saris from India. They can be used as makeup bags or jewelry pouches, etc. I used clear cellophane envelopes to mail the packet.
The stamps were custom designed with our names, wedding date and a picture of our ceremony location in Central Park.
The “calligraphy” was printed on my computer on crushed silk paper and adhered to the sari with glue dots so that they are easily removed. I cut around each address using scalloped edge scissors to fancy them up a bit more. The “handwriting” is so authentic looking I’ve had about 1/2 of our guests ask us who did them. In our case it’s Mr. Hewlett Packard.
I am blushing about sending this to you guys because I am such a dork.
Thanks and enjoy!
Kim

Haha this is so last minute…. but here it is…
My maid of honor and I made these bath salts as party favors for my bridal shower. We ordered the bottles and scoops and wrapped it with raffia we found at a craft store. I made the labels on photoshop, printed them on a home printer… and cut them with an Xacto.
Oh, and the salts were custom made… Pink lemonade was our theme~

Dear Weddingbee,

Hi weddingbee. I think this is a great contest — I love seeing all the ideas. I apologize my pictures are a little dark and I’m not so savvy at crossing out the personal info.
Here’s what I’ve got.
1. DIY invites — Made from Invitesite.com kit

2. STD — Made from $5 clearance Christmas card kit at Office Max

3. Rehearsal dinner invite– Made from correspondence cards on clearance at Papyrus and black ribbon from Big Lots. Whole project cost $3.

4. Program #1– This is the cover of my in progress program. It is made from metallic cardstock from paper presentation.
5. Program #2– This is a detail shot of the map of things guests can do nearby in our gap time, as well as a tissue for their “tears of joy.”

6. The Tablesetting– I assembled the candles, vessels and charger from Michael’s, the dollar store and Sam’s. I made the napkin rings from ribbon and made the favor boxes from a Gartner Kit.

7. Waterbottle– Modified from a template I found online.

8. Frame– This frame will tell people where they are seated.

9. Courtesy basket– This is assembled from a lunchbox with stuff from target and things I’ve collected at expos.

Thanks for letting me send these in!

Hi Weddingbee,
I’m not a bride-to-be, but I just wanted to share the DIY project that I worked on this past weekend, with all the other DIY brides-to-be.
My friend was fortunate enough to have a wedding hosted by her matron of honor’s parents’ house upstate, thus saving on venue costs. Hope I can inspire some of you with it!

A Summer Wedding Breakdown
There was a song that provided the inspiration to this wedding design. The song is “Ribbon in the Sky” by Stevie Wonder. Wynne is a happy person. I felt that yellow suited her very much as she is always smiling. Plus it was a perfect color for the summer sun.

Red, moonlight yellow and coral rose petals line the aisle. The arch defines the beginning.

Potted kalanchoe plants replace arrangements, to be planted at the hosts’ residence after the festivities. (Want not, waste not.) Cylinder vases hold flower tops and water.

A deck by the pond transformed by yellow lanterns and a light strand. Pale yellow tulle soften the wood and provide a stand out point for picture taking.

Ribbons in the sky matches petals on the ground. (A little sun shower during the ceremony.)

The reception tent receives the same treatment as the ceremony deck. Tulle and ribboned lanterns make the giant space more intimate.

Petals on top of pale yellow linen. Maple syrup and votive candle favors as centerpieces.

Homemade wedding cake: yellow cake with fresh strawberry bavarian creme, and whipped icing. Fresh flowers top the separate layers.

I made these flip flops for each of my girls and they matched the color of the bridesmaid dresses. I knew they’d want to change into something more comfortable when the dancing got started, so I made them rhinestone flip flops and they were such a hit!! The girls wore them to the hair salon the morning of the wedding and everyone was asking us where they could buy them. They sparkled like crazy!!
I also made the place cards that were cd’s and the cd contained music that we used throughout our wedding (the song I walked down the aisle to, our recessional song, our first dance, etc… and some fun dancing hits). We stuck the actual seating card in the flap of the cd so they got an extra treat in addition to the favors on the table.

Hi Weddingbee!!
Here are a few of my favorite DIY projects.

I made lariat necklaces and matching bracelets for each of my bridesmaids, which each featured silver chain, white pearls, clear crystals, and a crystal of their favorite color. Luckily, all 4 have different favorite colors.

My dear friend Julia did DIY calligraphy for my inner envelopes.

I wanted a non-traditional cardbox that reflected our style and could be used to store wedding keepsakes in later. This box is made simply from a photo storage box, a photo mat, two engagement pictures, rhinestones, and ribbon. The bows on the box matched the bows on our flowergirl baskets, unity candles, and unity candle holders.

I wanted simple flowergirl baskets that matched our ceremony decor. I spray-painted two small baskets and added ribbon.
I created these placecards using cardstock and a rubber stamp, and my friend Julia wrote the names. We also had matching table numbers.

Our programs had many personal touches to them. They were made of linen paper and featured one of my husband’s favorite poems and an illustration of the poem done by his brother (best man).

Our save the dates were made of cardstock and ribbon. They are magnets shaped like bookmarks since my husband is an avid reader and writer.

We created our own signature mat using archival materials and an engagement photo. The pens are markers covered in floral tape and a silk flower.

Our first ever giveaway contest is going great - your diy creativity is just so inspiring! (The contest ends on July 31st so get your entries in!) We had so much fun with it, we’re definitely going to make contests a regular feature here at weddingbee.
Some of you suggested luck of the draw or silly contests like captions or wedding haiku. These are great ideas, and you’ll be seeing them in the upcoming weeks. Thanks to everyone for participating and making our first ever giveaway a success! ![]()
