About Miss Coyote

Step 1. Gather supplies. Spend about 15 minutes searching your apartment for scissors only to realize that you had already placed them with the rest of your supplies. Smack head on table and do not move on to Step 2 until you have poured yourself a nice, big glass of wine.

Last Minute Projects

January 31st, 2012 @ 6:00 am by Mrs. High Wire

There were a few last minute projects that came together the week before the wedding that I wanted to share with you. I had sort of given up on any more DIY projects in the weeks leading up to the wedding, and then I got one final burst of inspiration in the last week.

First, I put together a simple ribbon bouquet from our shower gifts to use at our rehearsal.

My supplies: a bouquet holder, a Styrofoam center, and I used alteration pins to put all the ribbons into the bouquet.

Miss Fox's Picture
Miss Fox, Washington DC/Havre de Grace, MD Age and Occupation: 26, Massage Therapist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Field Support Engineer Engagement Date: April 18, 2010 Wedding Date: June 2012 Venue: Vandiver Inn About Me: I’m a dancer turned massage therapist who was born and raised in New York. Alas, true love has brought me “south” where I still maintain my penchants for pretty shoes, wine, crossword puzzles, cherry blossoms, and the Mets. I own more sunglasses than a normal person should and don’t eat red meat (though I make up for it by eating my weight in sushi). I tend to be a big planner who likes to get things started early, but generally end up being indecisive and procrastinating when it comes down to it. I have a (not so) secret crush on Chris Carrabba, but my loyalty and love ultimately goes to the future hubs, of course! Together, my Foxy man and I love to discuss (read: debate) politics and current events, have Mario Kart and Scrabble duels, and just laugh. A lot. We’re hoping and planning for a laid back, fun, summery, rustic vibe to our June wedding that will be genuinely “us” – that is, if we finally make some decisions. Huzzah!

January 30th, 2012 @ 3:37 pm by Miss Fox

Remember my newfound love affair with ribbons? Ribbon chandeliers, chair ribbons, ribbons on bouquets, ribbon backdrops…ugh, it’s all just so. good. Ribbon-tastic, if you will. Some of you were awesome enough to point out that I didn’t mention ribbon wands—how silly of me to forget those! They’re fun, festive, and make for fabulous photo ops.

DIY Amateur Hour

January 30th, 2012 @ 2:24 pm by Miss Petit Four

Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to DIY Amateur Hour on Weddingbee! Just kidding, it’s not a new feature we are starting up…it’s just me, Miss Petit Four.

Sometimes when I am in the middle of a DIY project, I honestly think I am doing it the completely wrong way and there’s probably a better way to do whatever it is I’m trying to do. Nevertheless, I am here to share with you how I made our table numbers. It was super-easy and pretty basic and I think they came out awesome.

Here is my inspiration picture from Project Wedding…

Just DIY It…Part 2

January 27th, 2012 @ 6:41 am by Miss Opossum

All of the vines we collected to make the wreaths got my wheels turning about another project that I’ve been wanting to do for a long time now…long before we started planning this wedding. Every Christmas a local nursery hangs these awesome twinkle-light balls from the giant oaks in the entrance to the nursery. They’ve added to the collection over the years, and every time I see them I have one of those DIY, “I could make that” moments.

Fly Your Flag!

January 26th, 2012 @ 1:31 pm by Miss Aardvark

I have loved the idea of incorporating flags into a grand exit for a while. They are so cute and playful, and pretty in photos. On top of that, we wanted our “big exit” to be from the church instead of the reception.  It’ll be daytime, so we nixed the idea of sparklers. Furthermore, our church does not allow rice, birdseed, or bio-confetti to be tossed because it would end up all over the city sidewalk (and I guess the city doesn’t like that?). Flags seemed like the perfect solution. But what would the flags say?

Ring Around the Napkins

January 26th, 2012 @ 10:12 am by Miss Unicycle

Napkins are boring. Usually. All you really need from a napkin is the ability to wipe the food from your face after your gluttonously feast on whatever food is given to you. I would personally be lost without napkins because I’m the messiest eater ever (statistically, that’s probably not true). But who really cares how napkins look? Martha Stewart does.

Just DIY it… Part 1

January 26th, 2012 @ 7:57 am by Miss Opossum

I am totally the type of person to see something in a store that a little out of my price range and think to myself, “I could make that.” I like to think that I’m a naturally creative person. Pair that with my design background and I have tons of potential to “do it myself.”

However, I wouldn’t necessarily call myself a DIY bride. When I think “DIY Wedding” I always imagine a completely handmade party… from the food to the decor. These types of events are usually turn out gorgeous, but I know they aren’t for the faint of heart. You have to have the courage to take on all the responsibility that comes with DIY projects, which sometimes includes giving up your time and sanity. Being creative is hard work, especially when you’re working full time, going to school, or just living a normal, busy life.

I am certainly not DIYing everything. Not even close. If there is anything my design background has taught me it’s that I should trust trained designers with a creative vision. For example, I gave the photographer an idea about the feeling I wanted our engagement photos to have, and then let her direct me in location, lighting, and poses. I couldn’t be happier with how they turned out! Had I tried to direct every aspect of the shoot it wouldn’t have been as successful.

You’re Invited

January 24th, 2012 @ 3:04 pm by Miss Aardvark

Hive, I know I dragged this out. I know, I teased you about the invitations in several posts. But the wait is over! I would like to invite you to, not only view our invites, but see just how they came to be (bee?)!

[Note, if you want to skip all the romance and get right to the main event, the invite pictures are at the bottom!]

First things first, I would like to give a big shout out to PaperSource, Staples, and Vistaprint. These were the three main vendors we used to put together our invitation suite. All of the unprinted paper came from PaperSource. I found their quality nice, their prices reasonable, and their colors fantastic. The little beige inserts came from Staples. They were fast, cheap and easy. I would not recommend them if you are a stickler for perfection, but if you are a stickler for getting it done adequately, I would say go for it! And last, but not least, I tweaked our save the date design to make our RSVP and had them printed “for free” at Vistaprint.

I used illustrator to lay out all of the text onto 8.5×11 paper in a way that it could be cut into four, with each text block making a square. I really wish I had Miss Eagle’s tutorial beforehand, but after a lot of trial and error I managed to get it pretty square. I then sent the files off to Staples to be printed and cut into fours. The fact that they cut everything was nice because it saved me some time, but not that much time in the end, because each invitation had to be trimmed square afterwards.

Blue Brooch Bouquet

January 23rd, 2012 @ 12:15 pm by Mrs. Sunhat

Once upon a time, in my early days as a Bee, I wrote this post about my plans to create a brooch bouquet. I even gave you a little sneak peek at its progress here, but that is where I stopped! Other projects became more of a priority and I never got around to sharing the final product with you before the wedding. It’s your lucky day because I’m sharing now!

This project was indeed a labor of love and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. I’m still so in love with it and I now get to enjoy it every day.

So how about I just show it to you and then tell you how it came to be?

I still love my Patriots and Red Sox, but have fallen in love with Virginia. I work in education and specialize in integrating technology into my work to improve the student experience. I’m a diehard blogger, animal lover, jamband follower, and DIYer. I paint to relax and have transferred by energy from home projects to wedding projects in recent months. When Mr. Mink and I started talking about marriage, we knew our wedding would be outdoors, that my golden retriever would be part of the day, and that the music would be fantastic. We’ve taken a few risks during our planning process and we’ve been enjoying the process immensely!

Shoe Clips for the Bridesmaids

January 20th, 2012 @ 12:16 pm by Miss Mink

Have you noticed a theme with my posts this week? I have shoes on my mind! Today, I want to share a little project related to my bridesmaids’ shoes.

Early on in planning, I knew that I wasn’t going to ask my bridesmaids to wear the same shoe. I figured I would give them a color and let them pick a pair themselves. With luck, the shoes would already be in their closets, but if they did have to buy something, I wanted them to buy something they liked and would wear again.

I wanted something to unify the potentially disparate looks and decided to make a few pairs of chiffon shoe clips.

Since it’s DIY Friday, I thought I’d share how I did this project. I should start by saying that I have absolutely no sewing skill. I do not own a sewing machine. My expertise is limited to reattaching buttons to clothing.

In other words, you can do this.

How to Identify a Font

We were putting some assets together for a campaign, and someone asked me what the Weddingbee font was.

How to Identify a Font : wedding berkeley diy stationery New Header 011109 new-header-011109

I knew I could ask Mrs. Bee via email, but I know she’s busy being a mom of two (!!!) and blogging away over at Hellobee lately, so I thought I’d take a stab at finding it myself.

I searched a few font libraries, in “comic” and “curly” sections to no avail. Then, I stumbled across Fonts.com’s identify fonts by sight.
