For the OOT’ers

July 16th, 2008 @ 9:29 am by Miss Tiramisu

The other night on Miss Gingerbread’s BeeTV broadcast, a question was posed to us Bees with only a few days left until our weddings: “What did you want to do that you just didn’t get done?” I couldn’t really think of anything at the time, which I I took as a pretty awesome sign that I’ve actually finished up almost all of the projects that I wanted to do. Later on though, I realized that part of me does wish we were doing more for out of town baskets. I had big dreams (I never actually considered spending that much, don’t worry!), and saw some drool-worthy examples out there, but with around 50 parties of out-of-towners, it just wasn’t feasible to do much.

Mr. T and I decided that the most important things were to make our guests feel welcome, and to make their visit as easy as possible by providing them with all the important information. So, without further ado, I give you our very pared down welcome baskets folders.

Welcome to Maine, here’s a folder!

Shoes are my vice, music is my passion in life and technology is the medium by which I live and work. When I'm not scoping out a sale, I'm spending my quality time training for a marathon, playing Wii with my fiance and snuggling with my Silver Labrador and Teacup Panther - and oh yeah, planning my wedding!

Fun With Floating Table Numbers

July 15th, 2008 @ 3:30 pm by Miss Pomegranate

I had been toying with ideas for our table numbers for quite some time and had rested somewhere between letting our pup and kitty handle the task or finding something more stylistically simple. Serving family style platters at dinner will take up a lot of table real estate, so I needed something that wouldn’t use up a lot of space. I wasn’t 100% sold on any particular idea until I discovered these glitter table numbers - they were placed on floral wire and floated above the centerpieces. Pure genius.

I can’t really take too much credit for these… I stole borrowed the design from Mrs. Emerald and Mrs. Eggplant, and had them cut at Staples (best $3 ever spent).  They were folded and assembled with help by my family members. The whole process really went a lot faster than I thought it was going to, and I’m pretty happy with how they turned out!

Cover done with Gocco (I wish you could see the lighter blue color in the corners better in this photo), card stock from paperandmore.com, ribbon (same as invitations) from MJ Trim.

I Know Why the Caged Bird Swings

July 14th, 2008 @ 6:30 pm by Miss Green Tea

Since no clever tea inspired idea came to mind as our card collection device, we turned to the tried and true route of birdcages. They are not only classy and decorative, but for us they come with extra incentives. FFIL happens to have two golden antique birdcages, one of which housed a pet bird in the mister’s home when he was a child. This translates to the following bonuses: 1. no purchase necessary (free and green), 2. color coordinating, 3. vintage coolness, and 4. added personal history.

Giant Hanging Pomanders

July 14th, 2008 @ 5:11 pm by Mrs. Penguin

I’ve gotten several emails asking about the hanging pomanders at our ceremony. I was waiting to write this post after my pro pics recap, but some gals are peeking at my teaser pictures! :)

A while back I priced out fresh carnation pomanders to be hung at our ceremony. Let’s just say it would cost more than the rest of our flowers combined to have them. Floral foam balls are insanely expensive, and pomanders require a lot of labor in a short amount of time should you want them fresh. That’s probably why, unless under an unlimited budget, you most often see fresh pomanders being fairly small. I wanted two 24″ pomanders and two 18″ ones, so I decided to go the paper flower route.

Idiot.

This was a really labor intensive project that made a very minimal impact. Our execution of it was so last-minute that we would have been better off just doing without them, or, at the least, building a nicer stand for the balls. But, at the right angle, they’re pretty!

A Piece of Chandelier For You

July 14th, 2008 @ 3:52 pm by Mrs. Flamingo

A while back I was debating what style of escort card we should have. I went with the majority of your suggestions and went the glamour option. Since chandeliers seemed to be a very big part of our theme, I decided to go with something like the left picture below.

I didn’t take any pictures of my escort cards in progress since I had to finish them rather quickly, But this is one of the only pictures I have of the finished product. I think it’s rather good. :)

Lining Envelopes

July 14th, 2008 @ 3:25 pm by Miss Pineapple

A few other bees have already posted about how-to line envelopes, but I thought I would share my how-to as well. (After experiencing some undesirably wonky creases when going at it the “Martha” way.)First of all for the lining I used a copper pattern that was duplicated in the inside of the “Ceremony & Reception Details” folder.

In my Philadelphia abode, I create mixed media artwork and one-of-a-kind home accessories in the company of my farmer-tanned fiancé, our Westiepoo (Betty White), our three rabbits (Cadbury, Willie Nelson and Applesauce) and our two frisky chinchillas (Ethel Funk and Maude).
About candycorn

As some of you may recall, I’m drawing our table number cards to fit in with our bird theme. I haven’t numbered this set yet because I won’t be sure of how many tables we’ll need until we receive our RSVP’s, so some of the drawings that I’m not as fond of will go into a pile of misfit bird drawings that I won’t end up using. I drew the hummingbird at a friend’s house with different lighting than I’m used to, which I hadn’t really considered at the time. It’s much darker and not the same quality as the others, so it’s going to end up in the reject pile since I know I can do better.

Short-tailed Pygmy-tyrant, or as I like to call him, a cute little pudge muffin.

Merci Beaucoup

July 11th, 2008 @ 4:12 pm by Mrs. Flamingo

We had a wonderful wedding, and it’s true when they say “It’s the best day of your life.” Our guests were extremely impressed with everything and we were so happy to share it with them. They deserved a nice Thank You Card at the very least for the compliments and their generous wedding gifts. So I went ahead and designed these:

The Ketubah is Finished!

July 10th, 2008 @ 4:39 pm by Miss Cream Puff

WELL. What a pain in the neck! My recent DIY projects have been major headaches, and the ketubah is no different. As you may recall, I finished the artwork ages ago, but I couldn’t find anyone to do the Hebrew. It was really hard to find someone to do it, and I was starting to freak out that it might not get done (thus the headache). I finally found a rabbi at a temple in a nearby town, and he was nice enough to write out the Hebrew for me and format it in 4 different fonts, so I could choose my favorite. How nice!

As soon as the Rabbi finished the Hebrew, I ran home and formatted the English part, which turned out to be significantly longer than the Hebrew. I decided to put the lines for us to sign just under the Hebrew, so it looked a little more even. I put the words onto the ketubah using my gocco machine (more on that in a minute). Here is the finished project, all framed and matted:
