Mrs. Cannon, Toledo, OH Age and Occupation: 27, Financial Analyst Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Assembler Engagement Date: February 28, 2011 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Epworth UMC & Ward Pavilion About Me: I'm the curious combination of being a go-with-the-flow, laid back, obsessive planner. I try desperately to stay as busy as possible at all times (and am succeeding big time right now!) My biggest loves in life are Law & Order: SVU, Community (the show, not the concept, although I like that, too), ice cream, white cheddar popcorn, beer, hiking, knitting, decorating, writing, being outside, spending time with friends and family and musical theater. Mr. Cannon is pretty sweet, too. We've had a lot of fun traveling and having adventures all over the country, but have finally moved back near our hometown to settle down. We're planning a low-key, colorful, fun wedding and an awesome-to-the-max reception.

A Bit of Wreck

August 10th, 2011 @ 9:17 am by Mrs. Cannon

I have said many times, both in this blog and in real life, that I like to be busy. I get antsy if I have too much down time. I want to, “Go! Go! Go!” as my daughter’s idol, Kai-Lan says. But, Hive, I have been way too busy over the past couple weeks.

At work, our fiscal year ends June 30, so the past month has been incredibly busy. In the world of accounting, the end of the fiscal year is a big deal and there is a lot of work involved. On top of the fact the work had to be done, one of the employees in our department quit and another received a promotion, so we are understaffed.

At school, my last class ended on Saturday and it was a very intense, involved class. I had, no exaggeration, at LEAST fifteen hours of homework each week for this one class. And as the last two weeks wound down, I found myself studying for the final and doing a huge involved project that took a lot of time and concentration. Meanwhile, Mr. Cannon found himself having to work seven days a week several weeks in a row. This left me in charge of Cherry Bomb all weekend, which really took a toll on the time I set aside each week for school work. Additionally, two weeks in a row, one or the other of the websites I use for my on-line class were down during one of the days in which I usually do my school work.

On top of that, time is ticking ever closer to the wedding, and we absolutely had to get our invitations sent out.

About Mrs. Ladyfingers

When I was 12, writing out guest lists for my imaginary, far-in-the-future wedding, I never dreamed I’d be doing this without my grandparents or my aunt. And I definitely never in a million years would have guessed I’d be planning a wedding without my mother.

This post has been in my blogging dashboard in draft format since before I even applied to be a bee. It’s been a tough one to finish—partially because I’m still, 5 years later, going through the grieving process. Partially because I don’t want to come across like I’m trying to elicit sympathy. But because I know others have been through this, are going through this, or are afraid of this, I feel I need to come clean about the biggest dark cloud over this entire process.

My mom died in 2006 of a heart attack. She was gone by the time I made it to the hospital, and it was, to say the least, a shock.

Paranoia Happening Para-now-a

August 7th, 2011 @ 5:40 pm by Mrs. Snow Cone

One week to go! I keep getting asked if I’m ready, or if I’m nervous, or if I’m excited, or if I’m stressed. The answer? Yes to all of the above.

However, I think the most appropriate summary of my thoughts and emotions at this point is worried. I’d even go so far as to say paranoid.

Changes and Oreos

July 28th, 2011 @ 5:18 pm by Mrs. Snow Cone

Somewhat intentionally, and somewhat unexpectedly, I am right smack dab in the middle of a maelstrom of change right now. In the upcoming days and weeks, I will have:

  • A new address
  • A new job
  • A new name

Sure, three things may not seem like that much, but I feel pretty safe in saying that all three are kind of doozy-sized changes!

That’s why the mister and I bought a 1950s house on a charming street not too far from our childhood stompin’ grounds. This could also be the reason why our hometown is the scene where we are planning our super sweet, totally charming, BBQ-for-supper wedding that I never knew I always wanted. I DIE over DIY projects and live for vintage, heartfelt inspiration. I obsess over all things mid-century (from forks to furniture). Love is… cartoons and flea markets, and I am known to whip up a mean banana cream pie. I met the Mr. in grade school and after that boy took me for a spin on the handle bars of his BMX, I knew that things would never be the same again. Besides lovin’ my Mr., I also love to plan, sew and create, and that’s just what I’m doing as I navigate through the details, creating a laid-back day that oozes charm; one that will go down in (at least our) history as the Best. Day. Of all time.
About Miss Sweet Cream

Oh dear hive. Oh, how I’ve missed you.

I know that I haven’t been here for a week or so. And I feel truly terrible for those of you (even if it’s just one) who anxiously awaited seeing more of the engage sesh that I teased you with last week.

I guess just life came full force at me all at once and the wedding planning—and sharing it with you dear hive—came to almost a full halt.

In one week, so many things have happened that I’m just beginning to catch my balance from it all. Last week, there were tears of joy, tears of sadness and all kinds of emotions battling each other like the 15 round match between Rocky & Apollo Creed in the infamous movie that Philly is known for.

Flashing Forward

July 20th, 2011 @ 6:07 pm by Mrs. Snow Cone

On a recent trip to Johnstown, I walked into my bedroom, and the whole wedding day suddenly became very real. My eyes landed on one specific item, and all of a sudden, I had visions of getting ready, butterflies in my stomach, a photographer snapping wildly in the background, a goofy grin on my face. What singular item could evoke such vivid imagery? Here’s a hint: it wasn’t my shoes, or my dress, or my wedding band. Instead, it was a twisted piece of metal.

Seeing that hanger made it so tangible. To be honest, it’s not as though I just saw this hanger sitting on a dresser and had a flash-forward.

I’ve found that a year into our marriage, the question I get asked most often, with the exception of “How’s married life?” and “When are you guys going to have kids?” is “Do you have any wedding regrets?”

Pondering this has got me thinking not only about wedding regrets, but also about the concept of regret in general.

Hi!
About Mrs. Ladyfingers

We’re meeting with our caterer tomorrow, and while I’m super excited, I’m also kind of dreading it a little. One of the things we LOVE about our caterer is that we’re essentially getting a caterer and a wedding coordinator for less than the price of either. And please, please don’t consider me ungrateful. I am so happy to be surrounded by people who have been through this, either as vendors or married couples themselves, and who can ask me about the countless details I haven’t yet though of.

I love planning this wedding. I love reading wedding blogs. I love telling people about the little projects I’ve taken on, and I love doing them.

BUT. I feel like there are so many details sometimes that it’s overwhelming. We had our first planning meeting with the caterer about three months ago, and we had a lot of holes on our planning sheet. What color napkins? Folded or rolled? What color tablecloths? White or off-white? And how off-white? How many bottles per centerpiece? Is the yellow more marigold or lemon yellow—or in between? How many cupcake stands? Are we doing a bouquet toss? And are we tossing the actual bouquet or one made just for that purpose? What are guests throwing at us as we leave? Rose petals? What color?

Tapering for the Wedding

June 29th, 2011 @ 5:30 pm by Ms. Gazelle

Holy smokes, Hive…we are less than two weeks away from the Gazelle wedding! How is this happening so fast? I have to tell you, the run to the end is a strange and crazy time. Planning a wedding feels very similar emotionally to training for a marathon.

When you train for a marathon it is something that you have been working towards for months. Then in the final two weeks you ramp your activity down to let your body rest up and gain energy for race day. You have all of this energy just waiting to be released so you are buzzing around, jittery and emotional in those final two weeks before the marathon. This phenomenon is commonly known as taper madness.

Well my friends, I have taper madness for the wedding. My mind is going in a million different directions. I’ll be engrossed in work but then I’ll quickly remember that oh my gosh, I need to make sure I pack a getting ready outfit! What am I going to wear on the plane to our honeymoon? I better remind Mr. Gazelle to find his birth certificate!

I am also feeling emotional and dare I say it, perhaps slightly irritable?

Don’t Have Time? Do It Anyway

June 10th, 2011 @ 9:12 am by Mrs. Hyena

In the weeks before our wedding, I was a blubbering mess. I felt so stressed out, and EVERYTHING set me off. I felt like I didn’t have time to take care of myself. More than anything, I wanted to go to the gym, and veg out and watch my DVRed shows, and make dinner at home instead of picking up McDonald’s for the umpteenth time.

At the same time, I felt like those needs took a backseat to the greater need of making-this-wedding-happen-dammit. So I rushed around and didn’t allow myself downtime and I continued to sob at least once a day over the poor freaked-out guy marrying me.

Then, on the Tuesday before the wedding, I had planned to meet up with a few girls from church. I stopped by Mr. Hyena’s house to go over a few things before going to meet the girls, cried on him some more and made us both miserable, then blew my nose and headed off to the coffee shop where we were meeting.

And I still wanted to cry for the first 20 minutes or so, but then something miraculous happened.
