We have not one, but TWO adorable flower girls! E will be 5 and G will be 2 1/2 on our big day.
G is the daughter of one of my cousins, and both he and his wife also went to Penn State! E is the daughter of another one of my cousins, and I was a bridesmaid in her wedding a few years back. It means so much to be able to involve family in our day as much as possible, and we are truly honored to have these little ones be our flower girls!
Dressing them has proven to be really fun so far. After talking with their moms, we all agreed that flower girl dresses, like the bridesmaid dresses, were not something we wanted to break the bank on. We had originally decided to shop in person at some local department stores around the holidays, but then E’s mom found some gorgeous (and reasonable!) dresses online at Gymboree!
The dresses are ivory silk dupioni and straight up adorable. For G, there were two options - a shorter, sleeved version and a longer, sleeveless version. In E’s size, the longer, sleeveless version is available. We ordered the dresses (available online only) in their sizes to try on, and then E gave my family a lovely fashion show at a recent get together. Unfortunately I couldn’t be there, but I heard she was totally adorable, and that the dress has been totally “spinning approved”.
Two thumbs up!

Aunt Pretzel and “The Girl” circa 2006
One of my favorite roles is aunt. I love being Aunt Pretzel to my adorable niece (we call her “the girl”) and nephew (known as “the boy”). Big Bro Pretzel and MOH/Sis-in-law S live in Colorado, so my Auntie time is quite limited.
The Girl presented us with our first wedding “issue”. She is 8 years old—she’ll almost be 9 at the time of our wedding. Before we were engaged my Sis-in-Law called and inquired if we were going to have The Girl be a flower girl. I told her that we weren’t—we weren’t planning on having a flower girl— and for the time being all was good.

We’re having two flower girls and one ring bearer in our wedding, and I’ve come to realize that dressing children for a wedding is no small feat! To tackle the task, I decided to start with the flower girls.
I figured it would be easy to pick out a cute, “twirly” dress for both of our flower girls to wear for the wedding. I say “twirly,” because I know that when I was younger, I based the merits of a dress solely on how far it would poof out when I spun around in a circle. I wanted the girls to wear pink, not white, and I knew that I wanted something a bit different (there I go again, flaunting society’s conventions). I also wanted it to be reasonably priced. So, I had some parameters with which to start my search.
There were perfectly lovely non-white, twirly dresses out there, but nothing really struck a chord with me. I briefly considered these lovely dresses and liked them so much I bookmarked them. They’re available in pink, but they were a bit too traditional for my tastes. Still lovely, though, and someone should definitely snatch them up – they’re only $35!

We had great vantage points for me to snap some pics at the bigger shows at Bridal Market this weekend, so while we gather our pro pics, I thought I’d blog about a show that I was able to catch on my own camera! Kirstie Kelly for Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings was last night, and appropriately for Disney… the kids stole the show! Kirstie showcased some adorable flower girl dresses, along with dresses inspired by all the Disney princesses, including their newest princess, Tiana, from the upcoming movie The Princess and the Frog. She did a great job of capturing the essence of the princesses this year. The show opened with various inspirational quotes by Walt Disney, followed by a preview of the upcoming movie:

“Add a memorable touch to your wedding with unique favors that match your theme.”
Much like many brides before me, I am super excited about wearing a hair flower in my hair. I even talked about it with my six year old niece, who also happens to be my flower girl. We were having a discussion about how to wear our hair for the wedding. No, seriously, we were––this girl knows fashion and has picked out my outfits on more than one occasion, and I typically gets compliments when she does. I’m talking entire outfit: dress, shoes, jewelry, and purse. One of my bridesmaids even commented that my niece has a closet she can only hope for and that she often ends up looking more trendy than the rest of us.
Anyway, so back to talking about our hair. I asked her how she wanted to wear her hair and she mentioned that she wanted to wear a flower in her hair. I gave her a big high five and told her that I too wanted to wear one! So me and my fashionista niece started talking about what said flowers might look like, and then we got into how many we should wear. I’m somewhat terrified of the oversized hair flower. Listen, some girls can pull it off and it looks amazing, adorable even. I don’t think that I’m one of those girls, but it doesn’t mean that I don’t see them and dream. Here’s one that I love:

I’m so over big bows and mini-brides (was I ever under them?)! I love the idea of dressing our flower girl in a preppy little J.Crew number. I don’t know what it is about the ‘Crew; I haven’t shopped there in years, but their stuff lately has got me coveting! I covet!!
Like Jezebel.com writes, “J.Crew’s Ovary-Busting Children Should Come with a Warning.” Their caption is spot-on!
For crying out loud. The cute is killing me. Can I sue? Can my ovaries sue? Can my empty uterus sue? I’ve always kind of been the person who was like, oh kids. Those are for poor people and rich people. I’d rather spend my money on vacations to Tahiti and Japanese lessons. But I forgot how utterly adorable they could be. If only it were as easy as dialing J.Crew’s 800 number and putting one on your MasterCard.
Proof?

I love their expressions; the one on the left looks like she might choke you. The other one is like, B*tch please!

After spending a weekend full of work and mild depression (my Dawgs lost AGAIN, but I knew it was coming), I decided to do one of my favorite Sunday activities: catch up on Weddingbee! On the very first page I saw Miss Fro Yo’s post about Ruche.com. Despite better judgment, the shopaholic in me decided to click on the site and take a gander. That’s when I stumbled across what I thought would be the end to my junior bridesmaids’ dress search.
Um, how perfect would this dress have matched my bridesmaids?!?
I quickly added two dresses in my girls’ sizes to my shopping bag and was on my way to check out when I got…*gasp*…an error page!

You may or may not remember one of my very first posts way back when about my little sister (the flower girl) and my littlest sister (the honorary flower girl).
I just thought I’d give you an update on how my little ladies’ looks are progressing! We took them to the tailor earlier this week to get their dresses altered to fit them perfectly.
My little sister looks gorgeous and loves her “Belle” dress, although you can’t tell from this picture:
She was very upset when she found out we had to leave the dress there to get worked on! I feel the same way about my dress, babe!
I’m slowly checking off the gazillion and one items on my wedding to-do list as the days quickly tick down. The latest accomplishment was settling on 3/5ths of my niece-entourage’s attire. After some serious lusting over Miss Ramen’s flower girl dress find, I set out on my own search for the cutest little dresses I could find to fit my cheek-squeezin’ worthy gals. I’m extremely excited about my finds and am secretly envious of all the dresses, especially this one with its precious rosettes:
My parents lived in the same house for most of my life, up until a few years ago when they moved back to Massachusetts. When you live somewhere for that long, there is a good chance that your neighbors become more like family. We were no exception, and I grew up with a pseudo big sister who is about six years older then me. I’m pretty sure she was still in high school when I informed her for the first time that I was going to eventually need both a flower girl and ring bearer for my wedding and I was counting on her to make that happen. She always just laughed at me, especially when I told her husband of this request on their wedding day. Sure enough, three years ago they had a little girl who I absolutely adore. And then less than two years ago they rounded it off with a bouncing baby boy who I also fell in love with at first sight.
Our ring bearer (who we will call little man, because he really does look like a little man!) is still pretty young; he will be only 20 months on the big day. People started warning me early on, here we are having an adult only affair and I was expecting a BABY to go down the aisle. But I was determined. My two favorite kiddos were going to be there. And I just knew little man would be walking, quite well even, down the aisle (we had a pep talk when he was a few months old, and I took his silence as an agreement that he would be good to go).

Yep, that’s right. I won’t be the only girl sweating underneath a large layer of clothing; my flower girls will be wearing petticoats, but not underneath their dresses. The petticoats will be their skirts. What will they pair with this beautiful skirt? A cute white tank! They are from Oopsy Daisy Baby, and I am totally smitten by them. Plus, I know that every little girl loves a dress that twirls. Look at how adorable they are:

I think if I could, I would have had a million flower girls. Okay, so more like 10 or so… I just LOOOOOVE kids (Mr. Ramen and I could not possibly ever exclude kids, because we love them so much!).
Most of our cousins are older than us, married, and have started families, leaving us with a bunch of sweet little baby cousins, the majority of which are super cute girls! And since I had spent so much time trying to find the best dresses for my lovely ladies, I couldn’t leave my little girls hangin’! I spent TONS of time looking online at the typical FG dresses, but I just wasn’t finding what I wanted…
So… once again, I hit up Nordstrom (hello, Nordstrom Visa). and stumbled upon this GORGEOUS little number by Biscotti in the spring season catalog… (*insert little gasps of delight here*)
Is this not the most PERFECT, beautiful little dress EVER?!?!?

I thought I loved Martha Stewart Wedding’s Ring Bearer Pillow as much as the next girl. And the next girl. But I didn’t love it as much as they did until I saw fashion designer Myriah Zatoun’s version of it featured on Once Wed. Her garden wedding was gorgeous.

Back in April, I paid a visit to sunny (but decidedly not hypoallergenic) Coppell, Texas. I was there paying a spur of the moment visit to my flower girl Z (and, okay, the rest of her family, too). Z was very anxious to talk to me about what her “little dress” would look like. She thought it should have butterflies on it.
I wasn’t quite sure of my ability to find a flower girl dress with butterflies on it, so I convinced her that petals were just as good. Luckily, this was not too difficult. I just had to show her the dress I was talking about.

Everything was going my way—cute dress, approval from almost four-year-old, etc., etc.—until I tried to buy the dress. The store didn’t carry it anymore!

Have I mentioned yet that I’m an auntie now? If I haven’t, it must be because I’m too busy shouting it out the windows and blabbing it to casual passers-by. I’m so, so excited!
My sister’s twins, a girl A and a boy K, will be just about seven months old when I get married.
I’m sure it’s not hard to guess my first thought on this: Clearly they need matching outfits.
Problem #1: It is impossible to find dressy clothes for baby boys.
Why is this? Do clothing manufacturers really think parents take their baby girls to fancy events but leave their boys behind???
Okay, okay, so it was easy to find white christening outfits and velvet wintertime dressy outfits. But how was that going to help me for a September wedding?
But eventually I came up with a few options that I thought might work:
