Diane worked like mad all week to finish the clay flowers for our wedding. Over the weekend she sent me many photos of the final products. They should arrive on my front step by Wednesday! In addition to being an amazing flower sculptor, her photos are absolutely top notch. She said that while working on this order she really felt like a florist with the vases and vases full of flowers throughout her home. Read more…

I enjoy decorating, writing, baking sweet things, singing show tunes/dancing in public, wearing pearls, and knitting sweaters for my furbaby, Harvey, to chew upon. I heart pink, and believe that sparkles are the new black.
It was sad really. Shortcake had had a nice run on the WB, and then, *POOF*, one pre-wedding visit to her floral event designer’s studio and she “kicked the bucket, shuffled off her mortal coil, ran down the curtain, and joined the bleedin’ choir invisible”…

We both find great joy in nabbing great seats at the movie theater for a blockbuster movie on opening weekend, and we are both absolutely crazy about snowboarding. And he loves to cook, I love to eat!
To be honest, I wasn’t too happy with my appointment with the florist. It actually wasn’t her fault, it was mine – I was unprepared for the meeting and really didn’t know what I wanted. I thought that if I got a chance to see her work, I would be able to get an idea of what I was looking for. I warned her that I was clueless when it came to flowers, and she assured me that she would help me. Instead, by the time I left I was even more confused than when I walked in. I didn’t even know what colors I wanted for the bridesmaid bouquets and my bouquet, or what type of flowers to use.
Did I want to use roses or orchids for the men’s boutonnieres? *Mouth drops open* Did I want to get corsages for the moms or mini bouquets? *confused look on my face* Do I want to acknowledge the grandmothers with corsages of their own? Uhhhhh….
My first mistake was that I was concentrating so much on the centerpieces and assumed the bouquets were well… the easy part. Boy, was I wrong. Read more…

When I first stumbled upon Diane’s work I was amazed. I thought it would be cool and funky to have clay flowers, plus it was one less thing I would have to worry about. Having the flowers created and delivered before the wedding left out any surprises I may have gotten from a florist on our wedding day. So, it seemed unusual, safe, affordable, and a little offbeat. It wasn’t until Diane sent me photos of the flower mock-ups a few months ago that I really became excited. Blown away doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel about her work.
Well, with most of her summer weddings out of the way, Diane has begun work on the flowers for our wedding. She has been working all day everyday since Saturday and sending me photos to document her progress. Here is what she has accomplished so far: Read more…

I'm from Chicago, he's from NYC, and we both miss public transit and great pizza. We have an adorable muppet dog called Paco. I'm part hippie with a healthy dash of hip hop superstar, have excessive empathy for animals, and have not one, but two bionic eyes (long story). We're broke and it ain't no joke. It can't stop us from planning the bold and whimsical wedding of our dreams, but we've had to get pretty creative to make it work, yo!
At our reception, we’ll be serving dinner family style, and we will probably push tables together to form seatings of eight on the main floor. I quickly realized this would limit the space for florals, as we don’t want people having to worry about knocking them down as they reach for more hummus while dodging candles. I have always preferred simple table florals to keep the space intimate anyway, and with budget in mind, I set out to find the best choice for us.
When I stumbled across Maura & Bryan’s St. Regis wedding on the fabulous Wedding Chicks blog (designed by the talented Stephanie Lairson), I was immediately drawn in by their style—a little edgy and definitely bold, but still romantic. Then, I saw this…

Forgive me. I’ve strayed from wedding planning for a bit because I made the mistake of reading the first chapter of the book Twilight, by Stephanie Meyer. This book isn’t for your average rocket scientist, but talk about a guilty pleasure! For the next few days, I was so engrossed in the book and anything Vampire related, that I forgot I was getting married. Planning halted to an erupt stop and even my conversations with Mr. Martini changed.
Mr. Martini: I love you!
Me: I guess you’re okay, for a human.
There are three more books after Twilight, and although a friend (who has also read the books) suggested that I postpone wedding planning for another week to finish off the series, I realize how dangerous it would be to do that, and decided I’m better off not going anywhere near the rest of those books until after the wedding. Luckily, Mr. Martini humored my Vampire obsession and patiently waited for me to snap back into reality. In fact, he welcomed it because I was no longer stressing about wedding things that needed to be done. Read more…

I would love to share some of my favorite blue themed bouquet ideas from the knot. But first, look at this fun alternative to a bouquet!
I love this idea - it would be such a fun DIY project, and a great cost effective alternative to a bouquet! Also, if you are planning a day after or week after photo shoot, why not make something like this instead of ordering or making an extra bouquet for later?

We’ve reached the day where we can take a sneak peek at the 10-day forecast at Weather.com! I can see what it will be like for the rehearsal, but not the actual day of. However, AccuWeatherdoes give a 15-day forecast—and they are not in 100% agreement.
Weather.com says 20% chance of precipitation the day before the wedding.
Accuweather.com says mostly cloudy the day before the wedding, and mostly sunny for the day of the wedding.

I'm balancing my love for the environment and my hubby-to-be's love for tradition to create our "green wedding in disguise." Our wedding will include local food and wine, antique touches and lots of love and laughter. When wedding planning isn't taking up my free time (and money) I love to read, cook, workout, watch baseball and travel! Follow along in my adventure as I attempt to plan an eco-friendly and socially responsible wedding (with eco-oblivious Mr. Pinot Noir).
I love flowers. My grandparents owned and operated their own small flower shop in Wisconsin. My aunt and uncle took over the shop when my grandparents retired, but I spent many visits running through the greenhouse or watching my aunt and uncle assemble beautiful centerpieces. The smell of fresh flowers always gives me warm fuzzies and brings back great memories.

There are many ways to make your flowers and centerpieces eco-friendly.
