I am writing this from the bedroom that hasn’t changed since I was four years old. The walls are still baby pink, the Laura Ashley curtains still in place, and a giant wicker sofa filled with stuffed animals sits to the side. I’m curled up in the poster bed that my father made for me when I was six, and I proudly helped sand and stain. I look like a frazzled mess—skin a little too red from face-products, hair in a messy bun thanks to running around in the heat in humidity, giant hipster glasses, burned fingertips from a glue gun, various cuts and bruises adorn my hands, arms, and legs, an old sorority t-shirt, and covered from head to toe in paint. Nothing out of the ordinary, right?

For our guestbook, we decided to use a Moleskine. I have at least 3 or 4 on my person at any given time—squared, sketchbooks, Cahier, agenda, etc. I also made Mr. Scissors into a Moleskine convert many moons ago. (OK, not that many, given the fact that we’ve only been together for just under 2.5 years. Work with me here.) Read more…

We’re having a fairly small, relaxed, and super yummy rehearsal dinner. As per our request, Mr. Scissors’ parents are hosting the dinner at one of the local Mexican restaurants. Of course, because I’m obsessed with designing anything that will stand still long enough for me to attack it, they let me do the invitations.
I made them without paper. Shocker, I know. Seeing as I’m pretty at awesome at waiting until the last minute, and seeing that we already had 20,000 things on our plate, I decided to go the interweb invite route.
I had read somewhere before that the rehearsal dinner should stand apart from the wedding stuff, but still have a similar feel. Read more…

Yep. One week left until the wedding. You know what that means? I am flipping the heck out. I’m a “OMG don’t mess with me or I’ll cry” stressed-out ball of mess. But that comes and goes in waves, because there’s also the “OMG WE ARE GETTING MARRIED” breaking through. I have an incredible amount of things to do, but whatever happens happens. I’m working noon to night on wedding projects, and having a strange amount of fun doing that. Hey, what can I say, I’m an art kid, love deadlines, but also love working myself to the bone and UP TO THE LAST SECOND.
How do I do it? With a little help from Freddie, of course. Read more…

I’m partaking in the “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue” tradition. I had the old, new, borrowed, and sixpence on lockdown (and to be revealed later!), but was clueless as to what would be my blue. For a while, I contemplated using Chanel’s Nouvelle Vague as my toenail polish for blue-ish toes, but wasn’t totally sold on that—I didn’t want to look like or imply that I had cold feet!
A few days ago, Mr. Scissors suggested the best something blue ever. I mean, seriously. Perfect.

For our wedding day presents, we set some ground rules, or rather, one ground rule—don’t spend too much money. With each of our secret ideas, we kept upping the price barrier. First? It had to be handmade, with little-to-no money spent. Next? Under $50. Then? Under $100. Now, we’ve both bought things in the just-under-$200 range. I have no idea what he has bought me, but I am pleased as punch with my purchase for him.
Everyone else, continue after the jump, and again, Mr. Scissors, if you click on this, I will be pissed. Love you.

I recently ordered some fun heart sunglasses from Urban Outfitters for the gals and me to wear on the wedding day. Why? Well, as you’ve probably gathered, hearts are one of our themes/things for the wedding, these glasses are on the low-end of costy-land, make great props, and they’re just dang fun. I chose three pair of translucent pink ones for them, and then ordered one of each color for myself. I just can’t decide. Read more…

On Sunday night, Mr. Scissors and I had a massive dance-party with ourselves and the kitten––we finalized our choices for “the big ones”, as I like to call ‘em. I thought I’d share ‘em with you all, as well as our runners up, just because we had so much fun doing this. Also, way to put this off until the last minute, us. What can I say? Music was super important to us, so choosing it seemed virtually impossible—we didn’t want to cut any of our favorites!
First up, is the song for the bridal party intro. This… well… I lied. This we haven’t decided on. There are two options. One is the cover of “With a Little Help from My Friends” by Jim Sturgess and Joe Anderson from Across the Universe.
Our other option for this is “Time Warp”. Read more…

I designed our programs to be design-friends with our invitation suite. I’m a stickler for consistency, so they work well together, but I also went a little more whimsical with these guys. The pressure was off for the programs, and I had quite a lot of fun with these. This weekend, Mr. Scissors and I spent a good two days printing, cutting, folding, measuring, nailing, threading, sewing, and assembling our eighty programs. He was a marvelous helper, and we are both so thrilled with the results.

In my previous hair posts, I kept assuming that I had to do an up-do. Georgia in June? Up-do, or else there will be floofy frizzy fly-aways. Problem: I couldn’t ever envision myself with a bridal up-do. Couldn’t do it. While pouting and flipping through my inspiration folders crammed full of gorgeous brides, I re-discovered this gorgeous bride with super-straight down-to-there hair, and was determined to be a down-do bride.
So yes. My crazy butt will be wearing my hair down in June. Before you write me off as being totally off my rocker, I have some things in my corner that will help me make this work.
I’m getting a Brazilian hair-straightening treatment. No, not the one that is packed with formaldehyde, the other less-scary one. Even though my hair is super-straight on its own, with sweat and humidity, I get baby curls and fly-aways. This will help my hair to be as stick straight as possible. Added bonus? It will supposedly make my fine hair appear to be thicker. Winsky!
I’m getting extensions. My hair is already pretty dang long. It’s grown out a good 4 inches below my collar bones. However, it’s pretty fine, thin, and isn’t as thick as the bottom as I’d like. Extensions will add some more much-needed hair, and while I’m at it, some extra length. 18? and color 1b, if anyone cares.
My hair magician is rescuing me on the wedding day.Months ago, when I first started talking wedding hair with Luke, my hairstylist, he said that he wouldn’t be able to do my hair for the wedding. Hola, burst bubble. He never did weddings because it was too expensive to comp a whole day’s work and tips, plus the extra crazy bride and bridal party stress. WELL. A few weeks ago, my puppy dog eyes did their work, the planets aligned, and Luke has the day off. So sweet, talented, awesome Luke will be trekking all the way down to LaGrange to do my hairs. I’m so excited.

I recently ordered my garter, and I can’t wait for it to come in so that I can ogle it. If you remember, I was set on doing a garter toss, and found some beautiful garters that didn’t make me gag. In the end, I chose none of those garters that I drooled over, but a different (set!) entirely.

Remember how I’m in love with I Like You? Remember how I wanted to have part of it read at our wedding ceremony? Well, das not gonna happen.
Yesterday, we planned out our ceremony with our minister, and we just couldn’t find a spot for it. Even after shortening, it still never found a good place as not to break up the flow of the whole ceremony. So, like the take-action bride that I now have [sort of?] become, I Like You has landed on the cutting room floor. Never fear, we still have two other lovely readings, one of which was non-negotiable in our original plan, and another that we chose from the Bible. We are getting married in a church, after all.
Our first reading, to be read by our minister, is Song of Solomon 8:6-7. Mr. Scissors and I had several SoS and Ecclesiastes readings picked out, but this was the one we agreed to be the best and most appropriate for us. Read more…

As I’ve discussed before, I love a classic black tux with all of the trimmings––black bow-tie, black satin cummerbund, crisp pleated white shirt, black cuff-links, black patent shoes, etc. At first, Mr. Scissors wasn’t totally sure about the whole bow-tie-tux thing, but was willing to try it for me. Right before we were about to order our pretty rings from Whiteflash and Blue Nile, we remembered that Mr. Scissors didn’t know his ring size. There was one private jeweler that we hadn’t visited in Hotlanta, and we figured it was as good of a time as any to go look at their rings, aka pretend to buy one and get Mr. Scissors sized.
