Yup. I’m one of THOSE people, the people who buy things they see on TV (hi, Mr. Ducky!). I still use the Super Chef knives I bought in 1997, sometimes even to cut through aluminum cans! Sorry, can’t find the link. Evidently they didn’t take the country by storm as expected.
In my defense, it’s hereditary. I’m pretty sure I saw Miracle Blade knives at my mom’s house over the holidays. Don’t even get me started on the wonders of QVC and HSN, okay?
After all the build-up, you won’t be surprised when I tell you that I own, and love, The Snuggie. I don’t care what The Today Show folks think! Okay, yes, they do look ridiculous, and I’m sure I do too, all five feet nothing of me wrapped in a slightly monk-ish looking blanket with arms.
What does this have to do with weddings? Consider this permission to gift your favorite couple with a Snuggie for their wedding. C’mon, you get the second one free! Do it. They’ll either love it or get a kick out of your wit.
Do you have any favorite As Seen on TV stories? Better yet, do you have a Snuggie?
Like many couples, Mr. Taffy and I love to text. We still text daily, but we were especially obsessed with sending messages in the beginning of our relationship! Last February, when we had been dating just over a year, my phone was finally filled to the brim with cute, sweet (and sometimes sassy) messages. I decided to make Mr. Taffy a Valentine’s Day text-book (hee!) using the messages as a theme.
I started with these basic items from Jo-Ann’s:

A package of medium and small crafting tags, a spool of black ribbon, a package of small vellum envelopes, and a glue stick. I also found some metal rings to use as a binder.
Then, like a crazy fool, I typed up EVERY message in my phone. That phone held up to 200 messages! I even typed the messages like this:

I love giving gifts that are uniquely personalized, but not outwardly so. Hints to a name in architecture, lovers initials “carved” into a tree… these have been my favorite gifts to give lately. They are perfect for a bridal shower or wedding gift.
As a lover of architecture, these photo wall art pieces make my heart go pitter-patter. I had all intentions of making one myself, camera slung around my neck… then decided to just leave it to the pros. Uncommon Goods has them in black & white or Pop Art-ish color. There are more sites yet that let you pick through their library of letters so that you get the perfect “K” for your friends.

I like ordering the new couple’s last name, but you can have yours say whatever you’d like!

Mr. Lollipop and I received a whole box of china for free from a liquidating antique store. I think the owners just wanted one less thing to carry away, but I can always find a use for pottery, especially if I’m allowed to smash it or draw on it. And, of course, since I’m a fan of robots and tiny things I’ll be drawing lots of little robots on my ceramic pieces.

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
I first saw the idea of a handmade gift card holder from Mrs. Eggplant’s blog. I thought it was the most adorable thing I’d ever seen! I wanted to try making one myself, but I had a bit of a problem: I can’t follow written instructions! I refuse to read manuals and just thinking about assembling anything gives me a headache. It might be because I’m very right brained, but the best way I learn how to do things is to watch someone else do it first. I’m pretty quick with that - usually I get it after just one demonstration. But I try to stay away from manuals or step by step written instructions and would rather have Mr. Martini (who prefers learning from a manual) learn it first, and just teach me. So when I saw that Mrs. Eggplant linked to the tutorial on how to make this gift holder, I assumed it was going to be complicated and didn’t even bother checking it out.
Fast forward to the Christmas season. My FSIL wanted only music for Christmas, so Mr. Martini and I decided to get her two CD mixes, one from Mr. Martini and one from me (since we have such different tastes in music), along with an iTunes gift card. So all of a sudden I had a gift card to give, but no gift card holder. I thought back to Eggplant’s blog, took a deep breath, and clicked over to the tutorial. I was going to try and tackle this paper craft once and for all.

I wanted to take a moment and wish everyone out there a Happy Hanukkah!! Hopefully the first two nights have been filled with light! Hehe.
Mr. Peep Toe and I had a bunch of friends and family over for the first night of Hanukkah; we made some brisket and some Trader Joe’s latkes (so freakin’ good). We lit the candles and then exchanged presents.

And let me tell you, Mr. Peep Toe hit this one out of the park! I don’t know about where you live, but it has been cold in this part of the country this past week. I wouldn’t have been surprised if it had snowed. I know this is nothing compared to what’s happening north and east of here, but it’s been cold for us.
So what did Mr. Peep Toe do?

It’s that time of year again when the Christmas presents are stacking up and things need to be wrapped. But regardless of whether the present is for the holidays, a birthday, a shower, or a wedding day thank you for your bridal party, wrapping techniques are standard.
I love wrapping presents! I think it’s because I love receiving gifts that are beautifully and perfectly wrapped and I like to pass that on to others, assuming they feel the same way. Similar to how an invitation sets the tone for an event, gift wrap establishes my expectations for what is inside the packaging. And I think going an extra step to make the present look good makes the recipient feel special.
I know it’s the thought that counts, but which of these do you think your bridesmaids would rather receive? A present wrapped in a Walmart shopping bag?

At lease they used a cute bow, right?
You have seen me make traditional veils, birdcage veils, and hair clips. You have seen me bring a damaged wedding dress train back to life. You have seen me make a tie for Mr. T, and even make a dress out of a bed sheet!
For my next trick, I will transform two of these cookie sheets into a gift for Mr. Taffy:
I loved Miss Powder Puff’s post on inexpensive wedding gifts, and it got me thinking about other gifts that I’ve loved to receive that weren’t terribly expensive: magazine subscriptions! This year for Christmas, each member of my family is getting a magazine subscription - less pressure than picking out a book, less expensive than clothing they won’t wear anyway, and they’ll get a little gift every month all year long! So, here are my contributions to the list of inexpensive gifts…

As an engagement gift, give bridal magazines: Martha Stewart Weddings, InStyle Weddings, Brides… or all three! For $24, you get 6 issues of Brides, 6 issues of Modern Bride, AND 4 issues of Elegant Bride. Throw in the other two ($16 for four issues of Martha Stewart, $5.99 per issue for In Style Weddings) and you’re still under 50 bucks. This would also make a fabulous holiday gift for an engaged friend.

A month or so before Mr. Taffy and I moved in together, I bought him a housewarming gift. It was a gift that would keep on giving… How to Cook Everything Vegetarian, by Mark Bittman. We love to cook together, and he had been eying the book for a while.
The following week I was browsing on Etsy and found the perfect complement to Mr. Taffy’s Housewarming gift!
A few months before Mr. Peacock and I were engaged, a friend from work got married. Her very sweet husband bought her a cocktail ring with an orange stone as a wedding gift. They met at the University of Illinois (whose colors are orange and blue) and were married in October with bright, fall wedding colors, so this was a perfect gift. I came home going on and on about that beautiful ring. Mr. Peacock must have been listening. He surprised me with a little something blue the day before our wedding.
My blue ring, my Grammy’s wedding band, and my engagement ring.
Blue is my absolute favorite color. I chose not to use it in the wedding for a variety of reasons, but it was so nice to have a little something blue on my finger (and on my feet!)
We wanted to do something a little extra special for the kids at our wedding. There will be three little ones (ages 5 to 7) and they will each play a role in the wedding as the flower girls and the ring bearer.
We decided on goody bags filled with snacks and fun games. I figured this would be multi-functional, as it would be fun for the kids and would also keep them entertained.
I used recycled paper bags and personalized them by adding their names and wedding roles.

Then I filled the bags with games and snacks.

I’ve already told you about the thoughtful wedding present from the hubs. Since he had to give it to me a week prior to the wedding so I could enjoy them before the honeymoon, I gave him one of his wedding presents at the same time in exchange:

We have a little tradition to get a Christmas ornament that marks each year. I love that this teapot ornament is shaped much like our monogram - a subtle way to pay our wedding year a little tribute, and it’s something we will keep and use for years to come.
I am one of those extremely blessed brides that have friends and family members who decided to throw me three bridal showers! In fact, unbeknownst to me, there was a fourth shower secretly planned by my co-workers that I attended last week. This last shower left me a tad unprepared - but I came armed with hostess gifts for the other three showers. With three times the gifts including co-hosts and junior hostesses, I ended up purchasing twelve hostess gifts within my budget of $125. No worries - I love me a shopping challenge!
For the first shower, I chose a simple gift of some Willow Tree figurines. My MOH had received one of them many years ago and loved it - so I thought that she needed a new one to add to her collection. I purchased the “Thank You - Appreciating Your Kindness” Angel for my MOH and the “Just for You - With Sincere Thanks” Angel for MOH’s Mom, who gave us her home to party in.

Thank You Angel

Since I am the etiquette master, I made sure to bring some great gifts for the ladies who threw my bridal shower this weekend! On a side note, the bridal shower was amazing and I had the greatest time! I can’t wait to share pictures with you, once my sister downloads them!
I bought the girls some amazing body wash from Origins, some lip balm and foot petals from Dillard’s. Have you tried the foot petals?! Ohmigoodness, I love them!!! You should check them out, especially if you’re a frequent stiletto walker.
