It makes sense that this post should follow the rehearsal dinner post, because we gave our bridal party the gifts AT the rehearsal dinner.
First, the girls. Because San Francisco can be chilly, I wanted to get them wraps to keep them warm during the wedding. I had a bright pink pashmina to wear that day with my white dress, so I thought it might be fun to give them white pashminas to go with their bright dresses. They loved them! Here are four of the bridesmaids (and our officiant), all wearing the pashminas on the day of the wedding:

(Hey, do you guys like how I slipped a non-professional picture in there to show you some, but not much, of the day? I’m sly like that).

***sneaks in wearing Blue Blockers and trenchcoat***Pssst, hey! Over here! It’s me, Lovebug! This is totally an unofficial visit since I made my GREAT BIG DRAMATIC GRAND EXIT and all - but it seems my wedding well has a few more bucketfuls in it, after all.
I had to pop by and mention my discovery of Wordle, because it has great potential for DIY fun. You enter in some text, and clickety-click: it generates a pretty little word cloud, weighted according to frequency. Brilliant for poems, random thoughts, favorite passages…and wedding ceremonies!
This is what I got when I entered in the text of our own ceremony:

Mr. Avocado likes it when I attempt to get excited about finances, so I subscribe to My Money Blog because I can send him links and impress him with my dedication to reading the posts. A few weeks ago, the author wrote a post about how much a wedding gift should cost.

My short stint as a Maid of Honor for my sister was really amazing. I’m not going to lie, it was a ton of work, but when you’re planning your own wedding it really doesn’t seem like work and when it’s your sister…I mean, come on. There is no greater joy.
All in all, I performed the classic Maid of Honor duties. I threw her a bridal shower, I kept my phone at my side at all times for the couple of weeks preceding the wedding to put out any fires, I was her craft slave (that was rather voluntary, actually) and on the wedding day I was her stress reliever.
I did a few things I am especially proud of:
1.) I made Sister Coconut an iPhoto book (thanks for the idea, Mrs. CB) documenting all of the events leading up to the wedding. I had all the girls sign it! In the book, I also attached her bridal shower invite, the menu and the advice cards I had mailed along with the invites. I also included some of the games we played.

Mr. Penguin and I had been thinking about gifts to get our wedding party for a very long time, but for some reason, we were all-talk and no action. So two weeks before the wedding we made quite the mad-dash to check off all our gift lists. We planned on presenting all the gifts at the rehearsal dinner. We then proceeded to make the mistake of forgetting to hand out our parents’ gifts at the rehearsal! One of the waiters at the end of the night handed the untended bags of gifts to Mr. Penguin’s parents, once Mr. Penguin and I were already long gone and they were closing up the tab. We’re a bunch o’ jerks.

For the two cutie pies who will precede me down the aisle, I put together a few little girly tokens of my appreciation.
Personally, I think the best part is the pink suitcase housing the gifts. If we were talking about Miss Tiramisu circa 1990, this would be continuously filled and refilled with toys, dolls, and all sorts of unnecessary crap and constantly carried around the house proudly. I hope A. and C. do the same.

Because it’s the home stretch and we’re dealing with the last rush of wedding bills, the big ideas that Mr. Hum and I had for wedding gifts for each other have been indefinitely delayed. However, I wanted to still do something for my Mister, so the night before I’m giving him a couple of smaller gifts to enjoy.
Since Mr. Hum is stranded out in dial-up land, I am pretty sure he isn’t going to see this until after the wedding day, but to be safe, I’m doing the usual warning - No snooping you! I have pointy little elbows and I know how to use them!

I grew up with the understanding that, on the night of the rehearsal dinner, the bride and groom present their parents with gifts of appreciation. I loved the idea and Mr. H and I really like the idea of honoring the people who raised us to be who we are today. We decided early on that we were going to get nice gifts for each of our parents, individually. One of the hardest people of the bunch is Pops H. Pops H has pretty much everything he could want and there are only so many books you can buy and/or affordable items for his latest hobby.
While my dad has never specifically talked about loving planes, whenever we are at any event and military planes fly by, he knows right off the bat what it is. So, I thought, why not get him a flying lesson?
Well, mainly because they are pricey, but mostly because I know he doesn’t have any intentions of taking multiple courses after the initial one and I wouldn’t want to see it go to waste. However, while I was searching online for flying lessons in the Dallas area, I hopped onto the Addison Airport site and came upon the Cavanaugh Flight Museum.

Mr. Lovebird and I wanted to splurge a little on our bridal party gifts. We wracked our brains for weeks trying to think of something to get these guys, and decided on something any guy would love. And since we didn’t want to bring these somewhat big and heavy gifts all the way to Mexico, we thought we would have a little groomsmen get-together beforehand. We just invited them over to our place for some food and games and said “prizes will be awarded.”

Mr. Canary and I had another productive weekend and finished our parents’ gifts. Although originally I had wanted to be super creative and make a keepsake album, it would be too time-consuming to complete before the wedding for both sets of parents, so we opted to get them each something to wear on the wedding day.Our first stop was Bloomingdale’s in midtown Manhattan. I’ve always loved Bloomie’s men’s department because they carry a wide range of styles (from super trendy to very classic) so there were a lot of options.
Papa Canary did not want to rent a tux and instead had one custom-made in Hong Kong. We decided to get him a very nice tie to match his tux vest. I was looking for something classic and formal and made of high quality silk. This is what we opted for:
Giorgio Armani silk tie
The color was the perfect complement to his vest and the diagonal stripes in different shades of blue added a pop of color.
About a year ago, I had to find a cute gift for a friend having a baby. Now, you might be thinking, what in the world does this have to do with weddings? Because of my purchase, I now receive a cute children’s catalog in the mail. Today, when I was looking through it, I came upon these cute totebags that would make a great gift for anyone, including bridesmaids, moms, wedding party members, etc.!

On the 7th of last month, Mr. Cherry Pie and I celebrated eight years together. Eight! EIGHT IS GRRREAT!
Ahem. Sorry ’bout that.
Because it was our last date-a-versary, I wanted to get him something special. I had planned to take him to a very spiffy restaurant near our apartment, but it was closed on Monday evening. I didn’t want to come home empty-handed even though we could just reschedule. So I went hunting about Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood to see what I could find on my lunch break.

But seriously, how cute are these panties from Nordstrom?
What could be cuter under your dress - or even as gifts for your bridesmaids! (I can’t be the only one who gives and receives underwear from girl friends!)
