I got a card in the mail this weekend from my Aunt, who we admittedly don’t see very often but is someone I’ve always thought highly of. The card was such a nice gesture in itself, but when I opened it up I found this handkerchief inside along with an explanation that the lace on the side is handmade!

I am so confused. I swear, I have never heard of or seen a card box at an actual wedding. This is one of those projects that I think may have been invented by the DIY Gods to pressure people to come up with something as cute as the birdcage-as-a-card-box project. Do I really need to do this? Do people actually use these? Where does it go? Do people actually have gift tables at weddings? I don’t think I have ever seen one! Before I started questioning whether or not I needed a card box, I made one. I thought to myself, “I need a card box, and this here cardboard box thing at Paper Source will do me just fine.” So I bought it.
Cutting a hole in the top of that sucker was not easy, especially when your hands are weak and hurt all the time. But I managed it, because I thought (at the time) that I needed a card box. I then covered it in pretty lokta turquoise paper and tied it with a pretty purple bow:

If you’ve gone out of your way to purchase a card to accompany your groom’s gift, as I had done, ordering a letterpress one online, I recommend putting it on your remember to-pack-for-day-of list. I suppose there are more important things I could have left behind, like our rings, but forgetting the card at home meant I had to do a late-night CVS run on the eve of our wedding. It could have been worse. I got lucky and found one of those new musical ones that played “I Walk the Line,” and Mr. Petunia is a BIG Johny Cash fan:

Today, Daily Candy Dallas introduced me to the Dayna Decker candle collection, particularly the Couture Candle. What got me so excited was the packaging. It is so modern and sophisticated… and black! Since our wedding is black and white, I thought this would be an awesome hostess gift:
After further looking into the candle, its pricetag comes in at a hefty $65. I’m not sure this will fit into my budget, but man would it be great. I would really love to get something nice for the hostess’ homes when I start to look for their gifts.

When I was home in Los Angeles for Thanksgiving, I rediscovered my four journals from high school. Covered in hideous floral tapestry, they contain a lifetime’s worth of amusement and hilarity. I spent an afternoon reading them and I could not stop laughing. Ooh the drama– high school crushes, dates for dances, college applications, arguments with girlfriends. It was so amusing to read and it’s awesome to have written proof of what a silly kook I was in high school
I fell off the journal bandwagon in college, which I sorely regret. I wish I could relive all my college and law school adventures– especially my feelings when I met Mr. Jasmine for the first time. So I’m definitely going to start journaling again. It’s a healthy, therapeutic exercise (great way to “say” things before you actually say them) and it makes for a great keepsake.

I just got a wedding inviation in the mail, and it got me all excited to attend our first wedding together as a married couple*. I’m sentimental about random “firsts” as man and wife. Some firsts I could care less about, and others penetrate my old, married hag heart and get me… right there. Anyway, I love giving a creative gift, so I’ve already started scouring their registry and website for gift ideas. I’ve found the “about the bride/groom/us” sections can give you some hints into what the couple might enjoy if you dare to give off registry and not cash. Which then led me to think to share some of the more creative gifts we received from our awesome guests, since I’m sure most of us will be on the guest side at some point in our lives if we haven’t already.
First, a bridal shower gift from a dear, old high school friend. Keep in mind that the “theme” was entertainment, guests were to bring a movie clip that they felt expressed and/or imparted some insight to the meaning of love and what makes marriage work, and finally shower us with gifts that would provide us entertainment as a couple.
