I’m nothing short of obsessed with wedding planning, and am loving the do-it-yourself madness that has now taken over my life! As for me, I’m a craft-loving, martini-drinking, girly-girl who loves traveling, photography, my schnauzer, and above all, spending time with Mr. Tiramisu.
Hmm… what could be inside the (adorable pink) box?

Yes, more gocco. So sorry if you’re tired of it, because personally I can’t get enough of my new toy…

Here they are! The final design…
The colors are not all there, and the photoshopped colors are a little off, so you have to picture them in dark blue, light blue, and gold (just like the botched Thank You cards). Here are the invitation, RSVP, and reception card designs…

Part I
You could say we were pretty ambitious to make our first gocco project the actual invitations…but what can I say, I’m a crazy kinda gal. Luckily, I had amazing help, my super creative bridesmaid, Michelle and my friend, Mona. After months of Michelle emailing me invitation designs she made on Adobe Illustrator, we finally decided on one and met at her apartment one night in November to get down to business.

Miss Tiramisu = dedicated new Gocco owner and suddenly a DIY believer!
Armed with my trusty new printer, I researched, planned, designed, and then carefully opened up that pretty orange box and took out the Gocco. My first project was a set of personalized stationery for my Mom’s upcoming birthday. (I know your favorite color is red Mom, but come on, the whole point is to test out the goods, so you’re getting wedding blue!). I used an adorable lily-of-the valley design- my mom’s favorite flower at least:

Part 1
By this point in my planning I was a full-on weddingbee addict, and had a new vocabulary word that I was quite intrigued by: Gocco. My DIY fears kept me from fully considering it as an option, but bee after bee kept turning out gorgeous custom stuff- and on the cheap! I decided it was worth a closer look. On a chance flickr search, I discovered HeatherJeany. This talented lady designs and Gocco prints wedding invites- and other custom goodies. I pored over her sample work, and LOVED what I saw. I contacted her right away and got a quote on wedding invites. Here are some that I was especially nuts over:

I ran into the Paper Source the other day to grab some Thank You cards for my shower. PS had some really delicious letterpress cards in store, but at $13 for 10…I thought maybe another time.
Time to bust out the Gocco! So I thought I’d be totally unoriginal and go with the umbrella theme, since it was a shower. Shower…rain…umbrellas…we’ve seen it a million times. Anyway, on to the goods!
I bought 4 sheets of printed kraft wrapping paper and traced out my own envelopes using the nifty Envelope Templates that Paper Source offers (and every crafty gal should own).

About Me: I'm a born and raised New Yorker who loves all things crafty and artsy, food (cheese and dessert!), magazines, and shoes. I'm a power shopper always on the lookout for good deals or great quality-- sometimes I'm lucky and I find both! I love to dance and "shake what my momma gave me" but can also really enjoy a quiet night in with Mr. Canary and a good episode of Seinfeld or curl up with a good book.
After returning from my brief trip to Tokyo and seeing Mrs. Ant’s fabulous guide to Japan… I’ve been missing Japan even more.I never realized what a huge DIY and craft culture existed in Japan, well at least, Tokyo. During my first trip last year, I was overwhelmed with all the craft and stationery choices available. I literally, did not know where to start! This time around, I had some experience and a goal: to find Gocco supplies.
Shibuya in Tokyo was one of the areas I frequented the most for craft supplies because most of the craft shops I wanted to visit were in close proximity to each other. My favorite place to hit up was Tokyu Hands which had the largest selection of Gocco machines as well as inks and other supplies.
Upon arrival at Tokyu Hands I immediately asked the nearest sales clerk where I could find a Gocco… (please note that Miss Canary does not know a lick of Japanese, but would attempt to communicate mostly with hand signals and drawings). It was a good thing I carried around a little notebook. The clerk had no idea what I was talking about so I wrote “RISO GOCCO” and showed it to him. He understood and directed me towards Tokyu Hands’ design center which was located on floor 5C. (Check out the sick floor plan below. There is nothing you can’t find in this store.)

Justifying gocco purchase = gocco everything in sight until it pays for itself!
Here are the personalized note cards I made for all seven of my shower hostesses. With that many people to gift, it was tough to come up with something easy and affordable. I hope they like them!

My first round of invitations are done like dinner! My California shower is this Saturday, and I thought it would be a good opportunity to hand deliver a small portion of these bad boys to my friends and family. At $2.32 a pop for postage, every hand delivery counts!
The invitation details that I showed off earlier all got wrapped up in a double faced ivory satin bow. I wanted to finish off the Louis Tiffany stamps I had left over from my Save The Dates, but the stamps were too tall for my envelopes so I had to fold them over:

Man, I’ve been engaged for a long time. And boy, for this ONE moment in time, I’m so glad. I was cleaning out my “wedding ideas” folder on my desktop and came across the “evolution” of my wedding invitation. I’m sitting alone here in my office, and the first draft ever popped up. I laughed out loud. This first one screams out “Hey, we’re getting married in a Garage!”

Wedding planning often challenges us to undertake projects we’ve never tried. Whatever their past career experience, engaged couples suddenly find themselves acting as event planners, stylists, graphic artists, personal shoppers, and many other things all rolled into one. Sometimes, taking on these new projects leads us to discover latent talents we never knew we had.
And other times? Well….

Meet our wedding invitations!

Eons ago I set out to Gocco our coaster favors to match the motif of our invitations. I’m so close to being done, I can taste it! Here’s a peek at how it all came together:
I Gocco’ed the front of the coaster with two passes, and the back with our new monogram and wedding date.
