I recently heard an incredibly sad and horrifying story about a young girl who went to Africa to volunteer in an clinic and contracted some sort of disease in her eyes. Within two days she was completely blind! It took five days to arrange a flight for her back to Canada where she had to have both corneas replaced. YIKES!!!
So, today I am researching Travel Insurance for our honeymoon.
I would like to ask any insurance agents out there if they could please make this process just a little bit easier. Good lord! No two companies use the same terms for anything so it is impossible to compare these products and they all seem grossly inadequate to me. Granted, I am looking for full eyeball protection after hearing that story, so my standards may be a smidge too high. But still, I’d like more than a five-day trip extension in the case of double dismemberment!
So far I think it will come down to CAA (Canadian Auto Association) and RBC (Royal Bank of Canada). They are the most comparable and seem the most comprehensive to me. At a cost of about $50 each, we will have emergency medical coverage, trip interruption/cancellation coverage, and baggage coverage (including travel documents and a 24-hour number to call for the 15 days that we will be away).
Have you purchased travel insurance for your honey or mini-moon? Did you find the process as frustrating as I am? Am I missing anything big in the coverage that I am looking at?
Our venue requires liability insurance from our vendors. Is this standard for most places? Our event coordinator says it is. If anyone has gone through this process I’d really appreciate some suggestions/advice. Do most vendors carry liability insurance?

Yes, I want peace of mind… but does it have to be so freakin’ expensive?! After over 2 months of being engaged, I finally got my ring insured. A good thing? Yes, of course! But it’s setting me back 380 big ones and this premium goes up slightly every year (for my own protection, says the agent). So if I own and insure this ring for the next 60 years or so, this will run me $23 - $24,000. *ouch*
I thought I would get some sort of discount for going through State Farm, since my family has every type of insurance known to man with them. Unfortunately not. But I am glad to know that this policy pretty much covers everything with the exception of acts of war, nuclear hazard, and uhm, vermin? It’s global, there’s no deductible, and will cover any sort of loss, theft or damage. At least I am confident that State Farm is reputable and God forbid should anything happen, they won’t try to give me less than the value to replace the ring. But regardless, I love my ring insanely much, and wouldn’t downsize to reduce the insurance cost, haha.

After you got engaged, how soon did you insure your ring, and was it through your own insurance policy or your parents? Or did you not even insure your ring at all??
I think I’m gonna have mine put under my parents’ house policy, but they are taking their time in finding out information about how to go about doing so. FI is kinda nervous cuz he says it’s “Like driving without insurance.” Tru dat, cuz I am wearing a nice car on my hand… eeks! Thanks so much!
