Mrs. Glitter, Los AngelesAge and Occupation: 27, Research Consultant/WriterFiance's Age and Occupation: 29, AccountingEngagement Date: May 6, 2007Wedding Date: June, 2009Venue: Millenium Biltmore HotelAbout Me: I was born and raised in West Los Angeles, California. I spent eight years in the Northeast working and completing my education. Having split time between two sides of the country has given me a true appreciation for both coasts. It has also provided an overabundance of cross country drives, flights and long distance relationship fun/misery! I love my family, my doggy Emma, fabulous wine, Anthropologie, politics, reading, being outdoors, exploring new cities, and good movies! My fiance and I are complete opposites, but somehow we have managed to fall completely and hopelessly in love.
Mr. G and I, always the happy procrastinators, finally got our marriage license. Nothing like waiting two days before the big day… Read more…

I love living with Mr. Peep and our animals: Huck the Dog and Ferris the Cat. I work to save the environment in San Francisco, while Mr. Peep makes ridiculously delicious Olive Oil. On any day you can find me reading the latest book I have gotten my hands on, eating Swedish Fish, and perusing wedding blogs! We are both champagne drinking foodies on a Bud Light budget. We are planning an eco-chic, intimate, and interfaith San Francisco City wedding.
I talked about the frazzled mess that I was last week, but we finally had a moment of clarity, and all I can say is that the stress has melted away. From here on out, if it gets done—great. Otherwise, it doesn’t matter because our marriage is legit. That is, we have a marriage license.
Last week we headed over to San Francisco City Hall:
Isn’t it gorgeous!? No wonder so many couples get married here. While we were there, we saw four couples getting married!! Read more…

Found my way to the east coast, and Mr. Champagne kept me here so we're planning a wedding from afar in my hometown Vail, Colorado. I'm secretly obsessed with reality TV, Wii games where I can shoot a gun, country music, and Caesar: Dog Whisperer. I also spend time pretending to golf, backseat driving, having one way conversations with our MinPin Maxwell, loving champagne, and wedding perfecting… I mean, planning. I use way too many repeated symbols and letters when I write, and I'll love Mr. Champagne endlessly…
No, he wasn’t the best man, or even a guest at our wedding. But we do have something in common. We’ve both spent a little time at the Eagle County Jail! Read more…

I also love being an aunt, wrapping presents, watching football (Go Steelers!), shopping at yard sales and consignment stores, procrastinating, singing and learning to play the guitar. When it comes to wedding planning, I'm excited about working on DIY projects and finding creative ways to stay under budget. Of course, nothing is more exciting to me than knowing that the wonderful Mr. Deviled Egg will be my husband.
Holy guacamole! Mr. Deviled Egg are officially licensed to wed! Last Wednesday, we stopped at the City-County Building in downtown Pittsburgh to file the paperwork and made it official.
In the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, you can apply for a marriage license in any county, regardless of which county the wedding will be held. We chose to apply in Allegheny County because they have the only office in the area with evening hours. Every Wednesday, the Marriage License Bureau is open until 7:30 pm, which is perfect for Mr. DE and I since we both work downtown. Read more…

In the past year I've lived in Baltimore, MD, Tucson, AZ, Miami, FL and Lancaster, England. In my not so spare time I enjoy planning trips with Mr. D' Orsay, visiting friends and family and crafting like a mo-fo. I also enjoy modern dance classes, rugby and soccer but have been banned by my mother, MOHs, and Mr. D' Orsay from playing till after the wedding. I have an unnatural addiction to cheese and shoes, but love Mr. D' Orsay more than either and can't wait to become Mrs. D' Orsay!
While I’m sure we will take a picture of our marriage certificate when the time comes, we haven’t reached that point yet. However, we went all the way down to London for an equally important appointment. Prior to receiving an interview date with the U.S. Embassy, Mr. D had to go to a specific doctor in London to make sure he is fit enough to enter the U.S.
After a 3 hour wait, we were free! We had a RECEIPT! Records have been sent to the embassy! Huzzah! Read more…

I find any excuse I can to craft something and am completely infatuated with the 1950’s, all things Kennedy, and my furbaby Vida.
Yesterday marked a momentous occasion – we procured the marriage license! Mr. L picked me up on my lunch break and we headed over to the Travis Co. clerk’s office. I’ve noticed that some of y’all have county offices housed in beautiful historic buildings. The Travis Co. office? Not so much. It’s in an ugly strip mall next to a furniture store with a minuscule parking lot. No matter, 20 minutes and $71 in cash later we walked out with our official license. It’s good for 30 days (with a 3 day waiting period) so we are good to go.

Only not as..."talented". More realistically, I'm a foodie who can't bake; a dancer and dilettente; an art collector with a penchant for the whimsical and subversive. I live in the city and adore the country, but not much in between. I like smart design, great craftmanship and good value. Most of all, I love the new vintage aesthetic: classic, sweet, delicate, bespoke. If I had to do it all over again, I'd go for a culinary arts degree rather than a PhD; but wouldn't trade Mr. P for the world.
We were really excited to check “marriage license” off our to-do list today! During lunch, we went to the Arlington county courthouse to get it. They don’t allow photographs in the building, so we took this outside—all the better for the world to watch our cheese happening. (Mr. P was such a good sport!) Goobers!
Then we went to the bank to combine our accounts—another milestone! Read more…

… hardcore. I was wandering around VisaJourney.com and checked out the flow chart that they have for the fiance visa (K1). In reviewing the documents for the next step of the K1 Visa process, I came to the brink of a panic attack. The visa process is so incredibly bureaucratic and I’m just so frustrated with this entire thing.
While I’m in the UK I can’t work, and the 1-134 form says I need to have a statement from my “current employer” and a statement from a bank officer saying how much has been deposited in the past year and what my current balance is. The purpose of this form (as far as I can tell) is to ensure that Mr. D and I won’t be on welfare in the US. I’m hoping that gathering my previous tax returns will show that while I’m in the US I am capable and willing to make money, but I just don’t know if that will be enough. Read more…

We might even get Elvis to show up! I'm a HUGE Beatles fan, love The Office and can't wait to become a Mrs.!
… but not drunk people. I’m serious. You always hear about “My friend’s sister’s drunk Vegas quickie wedding”, but that is simply impossible. When we went to get our marriage license, we asked the guy how many drunk people come through each night (since they are open almost all night), and he said they never approve those couples. Actually, the first question I asked him was, “Were you here when Britney Spears married that one guy?”

Luckily, I'm 90% resourceful, creative optimist (and kooky, neurotic practicalist-if-that's-a-word for the other ten). Other than writing about our week-long celebration of family, friends, laughter and love, I adore books, shoes and… you guessed it… long walks on the beach.
Okay. So. Ahh… (digging her toe in the dirt). There’s, um, something I have to tell you.
It’s actually not a big deal.
Well, it sorta is. Actually, it wasn’t supposed to be a big deal, then it sort of turned into a sort of deal, more a medium deal than a big one, though. To us, anyway.
Mr Breezy and I were “officially” married a month before we left for Punta Cana.
Yep. One day in early October, Mr Breezy called his mom and said, “Hey Ma, whatcha doin’ tomorrow?… Is it ok if we get married at your house?”
So that day, straight after work, we went to Mr Breezy’s parents’ house and got married. (I will forever remember that it was a Tuesday because when I suggested Thursday, Mr Breezy said, “I can’t get married on Thursday - Smallville’s on.”)

Getting a marriage license in San Francisco requires advanced planning and it isn’t cheap. First you have to go to the Office of the County Clerk website to make an appointment and pay the $93 fee (!) and a $5 processing fee. This fee doesn’t even include a certified copy—those are an extra $13 each!
When you go for your appointment you must bring ID with your full legal name. Lucky for us, before we left for California I checked my driver’s license and realized that it did not have my middle name on it, so I grabbed our passports. Make sure you have all of the required items and that they meet the exact specifications!
At exactly 90 days out I scheduled our marriage license appointment and paid the $93 fee. We showed up bright and early to City Hall on Friday morning (conveniently located within walking distance of our hotel).

We did it! Yesterday morning, bright and early, Mr. H and I set off to get our marriage license! In Texas, it doesn’t matter which county you receive your license in so long as you get married in the state of Texas. We are getting married in Dallas county but, to avoid any long lines or a wait, we went to the county clerk’s office in our hometown (outside of Dallas county). We got there at about 8:15 a.m. and by 8:35 a.m. we were out of there!
Twenty minutes and $72 later, we were posing for a pic by the county seal.

We are planning our very vintage wedding in the greatest city in the world, our hometown of Chicago. I am so proud to be a Bee!
Mr. Peacock and I stopped by Chicago’s City Hall yesterday to pick up our marriage license. Like quite a few bees have mentioned, it was quick and painless. All we needed to bring with us was our driver’s licenses. It was nice to scratch one of the “absolutely must happen” things off our to-do list. I have a strange crush on City Hall, so it was kind of an exciting trip anyway. Read more…

I previously wrote about the marriage license laws that will be going into effect come September 1, 2008, in the state of Texas. However controversial the subject, come September 1, this will be important information for all Texas brides to know.
If the couple chooses to attend a 8-hour premarital class, there will be no waiting period on the marriage license (normally three days) and the fee will only be $12, as opposed to new, raised rate of $72. Today, I searched everywhere online to obtain more information on the rules as to what constitutes an official premarital class, as Mr. H and I already did a whole weekend of marriage prep through the Catholic church. At the same time, I can also be very girly with an obsession with handbags, makeup, and high heels. And art! I've studied studio art extensively, almost majored in art history, and freelance as a web and graphics designer. Mr. Peony and I are having a ball of a time planning a wedding for 250(!) guests, doing our best to infuse our personalities (geeky chic) with the wishes of our very traditional Asian parents.
I have a confession to make. It’s a bit embarrassing, really…
Mr Peony and I were married in mid-April and we still haven’t received our marriage certificate.
To be honest, the marriage certificate completely slipped our minds. But when friends started asking if I will be changing my name (the answer is yes), I realized we never got the certificate in the mail.
I joked to Mr Peony, “Wouldn’t it be funny if after all this time, it turns out we were never legally married?”
I think the question lit a flame under Mr Peony, who proceeded to call the City Clerk’s office the very next day. After being transferred from one department to the next, and staying on hold for 30 minutes, here’s what we found out. Read more…
