I’ve been searching high and low for lanterns. I’ve scoured ebay, Ross, Target and every garden supply store I could find. I had given up. But on a chance encounter to Fred Meyer for some tape…I stumbled upon these babies. They meet all my requirements in terms of height, color, and overall design. The best part is that they were on sale - 80% off. Can you believe it!? Crazy. It just totally made my day.
I love the look of hanging Chinese lanterns over the dance floor, but I feel like everyone and their mother does them these days. Are they totally overdone? Ok, well maybe not everyone, but it certainly has been a popular trend as of late.
So picture this… this is my venue below (minus hot pink linens and funky feather arrangements). See how the ceiling is divided into squares? I figure my dance floor will probably be the size of one of those squares, maybe a bit bigger. So how would it look if I strung 10 or so paper lanters within one of those squares at varying heights (those light grids look perfect for hanging)?

Alrighty folks… I need your opinions!
The DJ I’m considering offers a motorized light show for an additional $75 with his services. Have any of you been to a wedding where they had a lightshow along with the music? What did you think?
My initial thoughts: could look cool, maybe it will really liven up the dance floor? But on the other hand it could look tacky - maybe a little too prom-y or club-ish??
KenzieKate featured these great starlight balls from Smith & Hawken over on her blog today. How gorgeous would these be for a winter wonderland wedding? They can work for a casual venue, a modern venue, or even an outdoor venue!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again–I am obsessed with monograms! I’m always trying to figure out new and different ways to incorporate it into our wedding. I think a custom gobo is the next “must have” on my list!

Gobo(definition from Wikipedia): A gobo is a thin circular plate with holes cut in it to create patterns of projected light.
I am a bad, bad flower. This past weekend I went to a wedding in Chicago, but sadly I was enjoying the wedding festivities so much that I took very few photos. What’s wrong with me???
I did, however, manage to take a few snaps of these AWESOME lanterns. These puppies were huge and dotted all along the gardens of my friend’s family home. Talk about gorgeous! This is an easy idea for any wedding!!!

I love lanterns. The vibrant colors, the faint glow that they cast across the room. They set such a romantic, and festive ambiance to a space. They can turn your plain Jane white room, into a warm and lively space. Here are some lanterns I came across while looking for some to use to decorate my space. I’m having my reception at a Chinese banquet hall, so I need all the ambiance help I can get to try to make it not so restauranty.

Huinita had beautiful hanging lanterns at her reception. I really love those colors!

This last picture isn’t of lanterns, but paper pompoms that can also set a fun and flirty mood to your space.

Here’s a cool idea I saw over on Boutwell Studio’s blog - your wedding flower projected onto the dance floor.
