This past weekend, the Morningside Inn held an open house tasting for all of the couples with upcoming weddings. We went to the same tasting in March of 2009 because the anal retentive Pencils booked their venue 18 months out. The second time around was just as good—and this time I got pictures!
To begin with, I met amazing fellow Weddingbee-er stephbolt! I sat down at the same table that she and her family were at, and I was so excited when she recognized me! I asked for a picture with our fiances, and she was kind enough to obliged my paparrazi-ish demand:
Mr. Pencils, Ms. Pencils, Stephbolt, Mr. Stephbolt
The venue had lots of amazing food on hand and my hungry self paused just long enough to take a few photos of hors d’oeuvres. Well have to use stock photos for the rest of the menu.
I went on a wedding binge this weekend. No lie, a binge. Luckily, this binge produced some real wedding progress. With seven weeks to go, the clock is ticking and I am entirely terrified but mostly excited for our wedding day to arrive!
I took an hour or so this Sunday to create our card box. It was so incredibly easy, I won’t even tease you with the thought that it is nearly amazing as many of the card boxes we’ve seen here on Weddingbee. This is a card box for us non crafty gals.
Here’s what I ended up with:
A travel themed card box, made from two photo storage boxes from Michaels.
I suck at DIY photo-logging; please forgive me. I started with a photo box that looks similar to this one:

So we had milled, and filed, and now it was time to engrave and buff our wedding rings!
We began the day at 9:30 after an hour drive to very small town in Virginia. Within three hours, we had soldered our rings. We took a break to head to a local burger joint and indulged in a greasy, delicious cheeseburger and yummy fries, all paid for as a part of the overall expenses.
After that, we headed back to the shop to finish our rings! After the filing process I showed you, we were ready for the final steps!
I’ve let you all in on how Mr. Pencils and I had planned to actually make our wedding bands ourselves. This past weekend, we did it!
It was the ultimate DIY—we spent our Saturday with an amazing Virginia jeweler, who had his own shop at his house. He showed us the ropes, but mainly made us walk the ropes ourselves! It was an intense, fun, exhilarating, awesome day, and in the end we had our wedding rings!
We were both so jazzed at the end of the day that I made Mr. Pencils proclaim his excitement to the world (and roll up his window when I was cold! Hee hee):
We began quite excited about the day:
