Yes we did. The wedding took place last weekend and we had such a blast. Please forgive me for not coming back before the wedding to give you all my final farewell as a “Miss”. The last month leading up to the wedding was so crazy busy and I barely had time to finish all of my projects, let alone think. Believe it or not, I thought about you guys all day during my wedding and felt so guilty, as if I ran off and wed in secret.
The weeks leading up to the wedding were non-stop GO GO GO with our cultural ceremony, bridal shower, bachelorette party, traveling out of town, finishing up projects, etc. Read more…

Immediately after we booked our photographer, I started searching for some cool locations in the Twin Cities where we could shoot. Unfortunately for me, I had no clue where to start because we were still fairly new to the area. My awesome photographer couldn’t really help in this department either because she was flying in from California. I was pretty much on my own. So I asked my best friend, Google, to help me locate some sweet photo spots. I visited different gardens and parks. I stalked the blogs of local photographers. And then one day it hit me like a ton of bricks. I live in a pretty cool apartment complex! Instead of traveling to different locations, why not just shoot here??! And so we did.
There’s this little waterfall behind the management office that we often visit because it’s practically in our backyard. The pond is inhabited by many fish, including koi. We have also seen a few turtles in there.

So I think I kept you guys waiting long enough. Are you ready to see some of our engagement photos?
I was super-excited to finally meet our photographer in person. She spent an entire afternoon hanging out with us and schlepping around my apartment complex for good photo spots. We were a little camera-shy at first, but she did a great job of helping us feel comfortable. Not only is she talented, but she is also the sweetest and most professional individual I have had the pleasure of working with. We had a lot of laughs and Mr. S and I are extremely pleased with how our engagement pictures turned out.
The first place we hit up was a small park a few blocks away from my apartment.
We found the perfect spot to spread a blanket out on and just enjoyed each other’s company. Read more…

Although Mr. S and I really loved our customized m&m’s, we knew deep down that they were too much of a splurge for us. So we ate up the sample packs that we bought and said our goodbyes. Farewell sweet little m&m’s with our faces. You were fun but waaayyyy too expensive for our blood.

After mulling over the candy situation for a good while, I returned to my shopping cart, where the $500 m&m’s were still waiting for me. I really wanted them but there was no way I was about to spend that much money on candy. Even after applying a 15% off coupon, it was still too pricey. I thought perhaps I should just get some plain, colored m&m’s without our faces and names on them. I’m sure our guests won’t even know what they’re missing.
But come on… I am a sucker for all things adorable and these were too cute to pass up! Our happy faces on little m&ms?! Heck yes. I could not resist. So I made a compromise with Mr. S to order the smallest amount possible. You know, just to see how cute they really were before we committed to buying in bulk. The minimum order was three 7oz bags. Seriously?! 3 little bags for $42! Still overpriced in my opinion, but more affordable than $500. So, I happily placed the order.

One of the very first decisions that Mr. S and I made early on in our planning was that we would have candy favors. We wanted to give our guests something small and sweet that they could enjoy right away. Everyone likes candy, right? We looooove candy (and we have the fillings to prove it)!
I wanted to have a candy buffet and provide our guests with a nice variety of sweets, but alas, Mr. S didn’t agree. I held my ground and tried to convince him that it would be so cute and our guests would love it. I even showed him dozens of inspirational images like the gorgeous table below done by the fabulous Amy Atlas… but he still wasn’t buying it. I showed him more images. I argued. I begged. He still wouldn’t budge. I was so bummed. But I understood why he wasn’t digging the idea. Being the voice of reason, he reminded me that we didn’t need to be spending so much money on candy when we could be using that extra money towards other things, like hors d’oeuvres. Bulk candy can be so expensive! So he told me to pick just one type of candy to use as favors. Reallyyy?? No candy buffet?! *pouty face* But look how pretty…
Suffice it to say, I got over it fairly quickly. But then came the big decision… what kind of candy should we get? Read more…

I found this pretty fabric at Jo-Ann. I really loved the white on white peacock feather & floral design.
I used some satin ribbon in our beloved wedding colors. The thick green ribbon is 1 ½” wide and the thinner ones are each ¼” wide. Read more…

A few days before our 9th dating anniversary, Mr. Sunrise announced that I needed to pack an overnight bag because he was taking me somewhere special that weekend to celebrate. But he wouldn’t tell me where we were going! Okay, technically it wasn’t a kidnapping since I went on my own free will, but still… all I knew was that we were leaving town and would be back some time before work on Monday.
The drive was pretty long and I was getting antsy, so I did what I do best in these situations: I took a nap. Almost 3 hours later, I awoke to a beautiful scenic drive along Lake Superior. Mr. Sunrise had taken us almost 200 miles up north to Duluth, MN. Read more…

A while back, Mr. Sunrise and I were discussing the possibility of having a garter toss at our reception, and he declared that he definitely wanted to include this age-old tradition in our wedding.
He seemed quite excited about it so I said, “Okay, that’s fine with me.” I imagined it being rather sweet, with my mister gracefully removing the garter with his hands, and then victoriously holding it over his head for all to see. Our guests would then erupt in cheers because my new husband is just so incredibly suave.
Ha! That imagination bubble was quickly popped when he told me that he would not be using his hands because the proper way to remove a garter is with your TEETH! Read more…
