Minimooning It

June 10th, 2008 @ 9:28 am by Mrs. Flamingo

There are only 11 days until the wedding and we haven’t booked our honeymoon yet. We’ve had endless amounts of discussions on where we should go. It started with Paris, Italy and there was mention of Disney, we talked about going down south… but we abandoned all those ideas.

As the wedding gets closer and closer I see the bills piling up and it’s stressing me out a little. Mr. Flamingo is in school full time and because we are paying for the majority of the wedding (with some help from my parents), a honeymoon done to our liking would be too expensive at the moment.

Me Too, I Want Two

June 6th, 2008 @ 4:50 pm by Mrs. Flamingo

When I found my wedding dress I got a matching classic elbow length veil with a champagne satin edge. (Sorry no pics) I wanted a veil because I wanted my dad to do the lifting pf the veil and giving me kissing before I go ahead and get married. This veil was perfect for that but since I ordered my dress over a year before my wedding date, I knew I was bound to fall in love with a vintage looking birdcage veil.

I can’t not wear my original veil (since my mother is the one who bought me my dress and veil). But I really liked the idea of being a Two Veil Bride like Miss Cookie. I contacted Sandra from Breeziway.com to see if she’d be able to make me a custom veil. I wanted something that would fit my taupe sash, and got an email back from her saying YES she was able to make me something that matched. I sent her pictures of my dress, hairstyle and accessories and I got an email with the finished piece. I was so excited. She used taupe-y colored feathers and the outcome is G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S.

Photo Sharing

June 6th, 2008 @ 11:00 am by Mrs. Flamingo

At both my father and sister’s wedding, disposable cameras were placed on each table for candid shots throughout the wedding day. At first I thought I would continue the ‘tradition’ but realized that because the majority of people have digital cameras, the use of disposable cams was not necessary.

Mrs. Lemon and Mrs. Cherryblossom utilized photo sharing sites so their guests could upload pics freely. But there are so many photo programs out there that I don’t know which one is best. I want something that is visually appealing with very little ads. I like the option that our guests can order pictures if they would like, but it’s not a must. Here are some Free Photo Programs I found so far…. click on the icon to go to the website.

About Mrs. Flamingo

When it came time to choose the music I walk down the aisle to, the task wasn’t easy. I looked at the usual bride entrance songs and there wasn’t anything that I truly loved… they just weren’t me. Plus, I wanted to choose a song that both Mr. Flamingo and I loved. It’s a really special moment and having a song we love will make it even more special

After an endless amount of searching, I finally found it. I will be walking down the aisle to Forest Gump’s (Feather Theme) by Alan Silvestri. Mr. Flamingo is the one that had introduced me this song. He would listen to it all the time so I thought it would be perfect. I love this song so much and just listening to it makes me all teary eyed.

Here is the song:

Is anyone else incorporating music from movies into their weddings?

Tossing Fortune

June 4th, 2008 @ 1:35 pm by Mrs. Flamingo

Even though the bouquet toss is a big wedding cliché, it’s a must for me and our wedding wouldn’t be the same without it. I’m a fresh flower lover and my toss bouquet will get the same amount of attention as my own bridal bouquet.

Monumental Pictures

June 3rd, 2008 @ 2:25 pm by Mrs. Flamingo

I received an email from our photographer a month and a half ago asking for a detailed list of our wedding day events - from the time he needs to be at my place for my bridal pics to the locations where we want to have our first married couple pictures taken.

Because our photography is situated in the downtown core of Montreal and I live in the suburbs (about 35 minutes away), I don’t expect them to know the perfect spots for these shots. I originally wanted to find an abandoned house, you know with broken windows and ripped curtains, but I wasn’t able to find that. So I kept on looking. Well even living around the area, the task was not easy. After over a month of searching, I finally found a great spot.

Le Deroulement…

June 2nd, 2008 @ 5:46 pm by Mrs. Flamingo

I have a confession to make - we’re not having any decorations at the church. I thought that since we’re going to be there for a whole 45 minutes, I’d rather spend the money on decor for our reception site. That being said, I still thought that our guests should have a little something themish at the ceremony.

Programs have always been a stationery item I’ve loved. They can be pretty, personalized and serve as information/mementos for your guests. I’ve spent hours looking for neat ideas for our program. Here are a few I’ve collected:

Left to right: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

Cake Help Needed…

June 2nd, 2008 @ 10:26 am by Mrs. Flamingo

A couple of weeks ago, I asked your help in choosing my cake design. The response was really great, but the votes were split and now I’m torn between the two models. I really liked having the chandelier in the design… like many of you mentioned, it’s different and most definitely has that WOW factor.

So with all your great suggestions, I’ve decided to make some modifications. Here is round 2. (click to enlarge)

Just to clarify things, here are the specifications of the cake: Round, 3 tier or 4 tier, layer of each (vanilla, chocolate and marble cake), fondant all over, airbrush design for all the patterns (chandelier and invitation motif)

Which one do you prefer?

Mock-up Bouquet

May 30th, 2008 @ 10:28 am by Mrs. Flamingo

Even though I wish I could take the risk of making my own fresh flower bouquet for the wedding, I thought it would be best to hire a professional. That way I won’t have extra stress the day of and that’s a good thing.

For my flowers I wanted something fluffy… basically that’s the definition of peonies. They are my ultimate favorite bloom and I love big and full bodied flowers. This inspiration of bouquets is pretty much what I am going for.

Framed Name Art

May 29th, 2008 @ 12:55 pm by Mrs. Flamingo

Always in search of great gift ideas, I came across Letter Your Legacy thanks to the Handcrafted Blog. I love photography and there is just something so special about it when it’s done in an interesting manner. Letter Your Legacy is a company that makes unique framed photographic word art.

I thought this was a great gift to give to newlyweds… not only does it highlight a new name, but what a great piece to put in your first home. You can even customize your name and choose what type of imagery you would like to have for each letter.

This is my example:

Even though here in Quebec we don’t change our names after we’re married (it actually costs us money to do so), I thought it would be a great piece to have for our future family. Maybe on top of our future fireplace.

Will you be doing something fun with your new name?
