Sister-Sister!

December 4th, 2008 @ 11:25 am by Mrs. Ballet Flat

There’s a big check that I can take off the to-do list thanks to an Alfred Angelo sale: my sisters chose their bridesmaids dresses!

Boy, what a task that was, too! See, with my other two friends, they knew what they wanted. It took them maybe 30 minutes to choose their dresses. Not my sisters. I love them, but they had NO idea what they wanted, and they brought mom along. So, you know what that meant: four minds. Four female minds that were all trying to find two dresses for two girls. I included myself, because my sisters begged for my input.

My mother basically took every style of shorter dress in their size, and we whisked ourselves away to the fitting room before anyone could even help us out. Yep, that’s my mother. She wanted to give every dress a chance (as long as it didn’t look completely ridiculous).

One hour of trying on, pulling, clipping and a few internal dilemmas, and my sisters had chosen their dresses!

(I’m sure my living room will look somewhat like this pretty soon!)

I knew that I wanted to DIY our invites when we first got engaged. It would make things more personalized without a hefty price tag. I started my search for fun paper online, and I think I’m going to be using a few of these places even post-wedding! These are the stores I’ve used so far in the DIY invitation process.

Stepping Back…

Stepping Back... : wedding new orleans Bf1

It’s truly one of my favorite times of the year. I really love when the weather changes, the stores get an overload of pumpkin puree and there are articles all over the web about the perfect Thanksgiving. Sometimes, it takes a lot to step back and reflect on the great things you have. Of course, I’m human and can’t wait for the turkey yumminess. However, as you all know, there is so much more to this holiday.

As a bride, sometimes it’s hard to get my mind off of our DIY invitations, booking the limousine and updating our pristine registry. It’s hard to lay back and relax a little when things don’t seem to be going perfectly for the big day!

My First Gocco Experience!

November 23rd, 2008 @ 5:12 pm by Mrs. Ballet Flat

After my Gocco collected dust for a few months, I decided to be brave and make notecards for my bridesmaids (stealing Tiramisu’s idea here).

I have to say, I double checked the manual, well, more like triple checked the manual before each step. Then, after a while, I thought, well, just do it already!!

Wherever Have I Been?

November 19th, 2008 @ 10:27 am by Mrs. Ballet Flat

I have to apologize for my absence last week, hive! This Ballet Flat had a root canal Tuesday (soda is evil), and said bye bye to my job in New Orleans. I officially moved to Baton Rouge, and I couldn’t be happier!! (Because I’m now in the same city as Mr. Ballet Flat!)

That’s the capitol building for Louisiana, and being on the tippy top of that building, you have a very beautiful, serene view. I highly recommend this for any Baton Rouge-ians (after all, it’s free!).

Making my Bridesmaids’ Necklaces

November 10th, 2008 @ 8:27 am by Mrs. Ballet Flat

You might remember how I made our bridesmaids’ earrings a little over a month ago. Well, I finally found a weekend to muster up the patience to finish our bridesmaids’ necklaces. I say patience because, well, looking for those tiny holes to line a piece of wire through isn’t that easy and can become a little daunting on the eyes. Don’t get me wrong though, I’m really pleased with the way these turned out. Now that I think back a few months when I was originally thinking of their jewelry, I really can’t imagine their jewelry any other way! I love it!

This pattern took quite a few tries to work up. If it wasn’t for Miss K (one of my bridesmaids) and Mr. Ballet Flat, however, this pattern would not exist! So, BIG Kudos to them!!

Here’s the supply list:

About Mrs. Ballet Flat

I’m a fairly dull person. I don’t really have a super interesting secret about myself, but I would love to introduce the hive to a different part of my life: the foodie side.

I love to cook and bake. I wouldn’t be able to say the same a year ago, but in the past few months, I’ve grown a true appreciation for cooking and baking.

I have to thank The Nest for this. See, they have a forum called “What’s Cooking?” and well, yes, The Nest is technically for the married, but uhm, I ventured off and found a great group of gals who have helped me develop this passion for all things food.

I watch Food Network religiously, and just subscribed to their new magazine. Mr. Ballet Flat does grow tired of me staring at chefs meticulously garnishing beautiful dishes, but he knows it’s grown to be a big hobby of mine. Plus, for the most part, he has no problem trying the dishes I make!

Letter IMPRESS!

November 3rd, 2008 @ 4:04 pm by Mrs. Ballet Flat

Target just keeps giving me reasons to go in, spend my paycheck and still love them forever. If only I would have seen this before planning out our invitations, I think my DIY-crazed mind would have gravitated towards these.

I’m pretty sure I can speak for the hive when I say we all drool over a meticulously personalized letterpress invitation. It’s all about the texture, right? However, when it comes to the price tag of these beautiful invitations, some of our minds (at least mine) change.

**enter Letter Impress**

Target, in partnership with Gartner Studios has a line of premade invitations called Letter Impress. These are blank invitations, RSVPs and corresponding envelopes with the designs already on them. You get a set of 50 for $34.99!! Amazing deal right??

Check out some of these beautiful designs!

Not So Glare-morous

October 30th, 2008 @ 12:45 pm by Mrs. Ballet Flat

Most of my life I’ve worn glasses. They don’t aggravate me when I wear them at all day. It’s something I’ve gotten used to, but just recently, in thinking about our wedding, I decided I want to be a bride with no glasses. No, I’m not just taking off my glasses. If I did that, everything would be blurry and my klutz level would rise to dangerous proportions. The reason for the switch then? Glare… yeah, you glasses wearing brides know ALL about glare!

I’ve been HAUNTED by glare in yearbook pictures, candids, prom night and almost in our engagement pics, too. However, our wedding photog is excellent and she just wasn’t going to let it happen! Check out our e-pics for proof! :)

Look at an example of my tragic glare that I found all over my Facebook pictures. Sorry for the bad quality.

As I mentioned in my last post, I love Martha Stewart. My absolute favorite wedding magazine is her Weddings magazine. She has wonderful inspiration pictures and most importantly, DIY projects.

I’m definitely incorporating a few of her projects into the wedding. Call me crazy but I LOVE crafts!

Dearest Martha,

I would just like to thank you for your wonderful crafty ideas throughout my teenage and young adult years (minus the prison sentence). I love your step by step ideas for the perfect bow, so I can make my invitations super perfect. I love your Everyday Food magazine, because your recipes are so simple yet delicious. But now, OMG, I think I’ve reached a small obsession with you when I saw this in Macy’s.

A Driving Dilemma…

October 23rd, 2008 @ 1:21 pm by Mrs. Ballet Flat

I’ve been a good bride. I booked everything within a month of being engaged. Well, almost everything.

I still haven’t booked the limo(s). I know, I know…today is exactly 7 months until the big day, and I haven’t booked or looked much into the transportation yet.

Mr. Ballet Flat and I are on a budget, and we don’t exactly know how many limos to rent and what kinds of limos to rent, how long to rent them. We have SO many questions, and we don’t want to waste money. On top of that, I’ve read bad reviews on almost EVERY limo company in New Orleans on the local Knot boards.

The Hidden Deal Breaker

October 22nd, 2008 @ 4:43 pm by Mrs. Ballet Flat

I wanted our wedding to be held in my hometown of Destrehan so badly. I really did, but man, the sticker shock of a reception made this very difficult! I knew for a fact where the ceremony would be. I told Mr. Ballet Flat from day one that we had to get married in St. Charles Borromeo Church. I would move the date around as much as possible to get this venue, because this is the church I’ve always gone to. It’s a beautiful, traditional church with a crazy long aisle to walk down. What more is there to ask for, right? :)
