I like the idea of lighting a unity candle at our wedding ceremony. Not only because of its symbolism and tradition, but because it provides a great way for our mothers to participate in the ceremony by lighting a candle. While the common brass or silver candle holders are beautiful, I fell in love with the idea of having a unity candle floral arrangement. With this type of unity candle, we could have a set of simple white candles surrounded by flowers that match the rest of the decor. Because I just can’t get enough of the wedding-related craft projects, I set out to make one myself.

Pocketfold invitations are all the rage, but buying them can be costly if you need to purchase a large quantity. Making them yourself is a great option if you are on a budget and have a few months before it’s time to mail the invites. So, I thought I’d show you how I made one from some old cardstock. This pocketfold is made from one sheet of 12″x12″ scrapbooking cardstock and cost me less than 20¢ thanks to paper purchased during an open stock paper sale at Jo-Ann’s.
1. Start with your sheet of 12″x12″ cardstock and use a paper trimmer to cut it down to 7″x12″. Keep the remaining piece for making the pocket.

During my senior year of college an amazing thing happened. A dirty, lovely “rockin’ country saloon” opened on the South Side of Pittsburgh called Saddle Ridge. I was already known as “the designer who loved to line dance” at Carnegie Mellon (it’s not that popular for city chicks—go figure), when one of my photography professors suggested I do a series of photos at Saddle Ridge. 1600 photos and six months later, I had revived my passion from high school and made some of the best friends a pseudo cowgirl could ask for. Saddle Ridge is where bridesmaid Christy and I spent Thursday-Saturday nights and where we met BFF Free-J Mike.
Mr. Pineapple does not share my passion for dancing in a line, but he is really good at hanging out by the bar, spectating, and keeping my water cup full. So with a few of my Saddle Ridge friends in attendance and running the music machine, there was definitely a lot of line dancing happening at our wedding. Sister Pineapple ran the family camcorder by setting it atop her table, so the video is not of great quality (hello booties in front of the lens), but I thought you might like to see a bride attempt to boot scoot in a huge gown. It was announced in 2006, and this week it finally came to the ‘Burgh. That’s right Steel City fashionistas, the new 138,000-square-foot Nordstrom store is officially open for business at the Ross Park Mall.
Looks like all of us Western PA brides now have another option in shopping, including seeking out bridal accessories like shoes, purses, lingerie, jewelry and more.

We’ve picked out our colors, and now that I am pretty deep into buying silk flowers, gathering supplies for our invitations and beginning the search for bridesmaid’s dresses, I thought I would share with you my color swatch sheet, an easy to make tool for helping me keep our colors consistent throughout our purchases. I keep this sheet in my wedding planning binder and it is loaded with swatches of color chips, fabric from my dress, ribbons, lace and a sample of an ingredient I’m planning on using in our centerpieces.

For our favors, I will be making chocolate numbers with candy molds I purchased from One Stop Candle. So, why numbers for a wedding favor? These numbers will also serve double duty as part of the escort cards. When each person goes into the reception hall, they will find their name and be seated at their table, indicated by the number spelled out in chocolate. Directional and delicious! Read more…
