Mrs. Skunk, AtlantaAge and Occupation: 23, Post baccalaureate studentFiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Mechanical DesignerEngagement Date: February 13, 2011Wedding Date: November 2011Venue: Neverland Farms About Me: I’m a Georgia peach born and raised in the dirty dirty. I love reading, baking lots of sweets and forcing them on my friends, and most of all, rock climbing. I am in the process of applying to graduate school in physical therapy and I work at farmers’ markets around town selling bread for a local bakery. The mister and I met while rock climbing just over two years ago and have been inseparable ever since. Our climbing friends mean the world to us and have played an integral role in our relationship. We’re planning a barnyard shindig filled with good food, good friends, and lots of love.
Y’all I’mma fixin’ to get up on my soapbox. And it might get ugly.
I’ve gone the easy route for everything wedding related so far. Let the girls pick the dresses, casual dress code for the dudes, and scribbled addresses on the invites. So for God’s sakes quit asking me why we haven’t registered at Macy’s. Read more…

Haley Mansion, Joliet, ILAbout Me: I'm a city girl who loves a good escape, so I'm planning a Chicago wedding outside of the city. I've been described as a quirky yet down-to-earth drama queen who loves fiercely. I used to be a scientist, but now I'm learning to navigate the world of non-profit organizations. I love cooking, blogging, shopping, and music, and movies (Hans Zimmer is my favorite movie composer). Mr. Kettle and I had a short courtship and now we have a happy home with our cat-who-thinks-she's-people, Belle. We spend our days and nights with good food, live music, video games, family, and friends. Our wedding has become this wonderful excuse to bring together hundreds of people we can't bear to be without.
Hive, it’s done! We’ve finally completed our wedding registries. It only took six people five months to do it, but it got done. I feel like we managed to register for exactly what we needed and wanted. There are all these suggestions of what we should be registering for. In fact, I printed off a three page list with suggestions, But I tossed those suggestions right out the window.
Well, I didn’t throw it out the window, but I did get rid of the list. I thought about Mr. Kettle and the life we plan to have in the next 10 years or so.
We definitely needed some classic wedding registry stuff (such as wedding china), but we also needed some non-classic stuff (such as bicycles). Our registry planning got off to a slow start…a real slow start. To illustrate, I’ve done a cartoon. I had to edit it so you could actually read it this time: Read more…

I’m going today with BM Libra and BM Law to add more items to our registry. That got me thinking about this post I wrote, but never got around to posting. Maybe… ahem… because I still haven’t done my post on the first trip to register with Momma Kettle and Mr. Kettle.
I looked up our registry info to confirm our China selection to comment on one of Miss Teacup’s posts. It turns out there are three, count them, three grooms with Mr. Kettle’s exact name getting married in the next six months.
To my bride brain, this was ridiculously funny. Don’t ask why. I texted Mr. Kettle to see if he was secretly a polygamist. It wouldn’t be so secret since he used the same name, but I found it hilarious. It’s nice to have the escapes from all the serious things that must be considered and mulled over in the wedding world.
What would you do if you found out your fiance was a polygamist? Sounds like a Lifetime movie, right? Well, Mr. Kettle did confess to being a polygamist and didn’t seem too upset that I’d caught him. It’s not like he was trying real hard to hide it. If you knew him at all, you’d know this was his oddball humor. I love his sense of humor and we had a hearty laugh over it.
But, it got me to thinking about non-traditional marriages. Read more…
Miss Petit Four, San Antonio/Isla MujeresAge and Occupation: 25, Technology teacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Math Teacher and Football CoachEngagement Date: Feb 13, 2010Wedding Date: March 2012Venue: Zama Beach Club, Isla Mujeres, MexicoAbout Me: I am a polka-dot obsessed, destination wedding diva living and loving in the great state of Texas. I am an island girl at heart and I visit the beach as often as I can. I am a wannabe DIY goddess, but that doesn’t mean I won’t give it my best shot. I love pearl earrings, the color pink, and ruffles are a part of my everyday wardrobe. My wonderful fiance and I are planning a destination wedding with our closest family and friends and we’re leaving a trail of glitter in our path!
I have had a few people already ask me where we’re registered or if we have registered yet. With the wedding about 5 months away, showers, engagement parties and other fun stuff is right around the corner. I actually registered for some gifts online at Bed, Bath and Beyond, but there was something holding me back.
The place we are getting married is a beautiful, tropical island with endless turquoise waters and bottomless margaritas. It is also home to many people who live way below anything we would consider close to the poverty line. This past summer when we visited the island, I found an amazing organization called Peace Isla Mujeres. They do amazing things for schools, shelters and even animals on the island.
Mr. PF and I already live together and we have accumulated quite a bit of things in those couple of years. We have everything we could possibly need to (air quote) start our lives together.
I can’t help but think of all these amazing people we met this summer and how positive they are, even though they have nothing. I also can’t help but think of how much they need the money for medical supplies or books for their school. They need it more than we need a new toaster or another blender. Read more…

I am fortunate to be marrying an amazing man who loves me and my quirky ways. I love food, books, indie music, and Harry Potter. We are planning a small, intimate wedding up in the Malibu Hills with our closest family and friends. With the help of my wonderful fiance, our loved ones, and red velvet cheesecake, our wedding will be glorious!
A few weeks ago, MOH Johnny5 and I went to an ultra-swank registry event at Crate&Barrel. If you’ve ever been to one of these events, they can be a little overwhelming. They basically give you a short introduction, hand you a scanner, and let you run amok around the store. There’s one thing about the scanner they don’t tell you, though. It makes you feel powerful. And giddy.
Mrs. Sunhat, Dyer, IN Age and Occupation: 32, Tax AccountantFiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Landscape ForemanEngagement Date: September 25, 2010Wedding Date: December 2011Venues: St. Andrew the Apostle, Fiesta PalaceAbout Me: I'm a Midwest girl who grew up in the country and now works in the big city! I love cooking, entertaining, reading (addicted to my Kindle) and going to the movies. I don't miss an episode of Hoarders and I start cleaning every time I watch! My profession doesn't call for much creativity so wedding planning has been a great outlet. Mr. Sunhat and I met online three years ago, cheer for rival MLB teams and share a home with our dog, Wrigley. We are planning a traditional, Polish, Catholic wedding with lots of DIY elements and some fun surprises. I'm so excited to be married on New Year's Eve and we can't wait to ring in the new year as husband and wife!
Registering for wedding gifts was not as fun as I thought it would be. Whew! There—I said it out loud. What a relief!
I understand that everyone has their own opinions on the whole registry thing, but in my circle of family and friends, a registry is expected and almost demanded! It isn’t frowned upon and is the norm for an engaged couple in these parts. I have already had numerous requests from people to have the right to an early sneak peek or to have “first dibs” on choosing our gifts!
Mr. Ball Cap and I decided on Bed Bath & Beyond, Macy’s, and MyRegistry.com. MyRegistry.com allows you to add items from any website onto one universal gift registry. It is free to set up, and it also allows you to sync other existing registries you may have out there (from Macy’s, for example) all to one page. This site fit our needs well. As Mr. Ball Cap and I are well into our 30s, we have accumulated quite a bit of household things during our lives. While we do need to replace quite a bit, there are other items that would be more practical for us. We’d love to be able to register at Lowe’s or Menard’s but, sadly, they do not offer registries. By using MyRegistry.com, we can add any item from these stores (or any other online store) to our registry and our guests can go to one site to see it all. Read more…
Mrs. Pony, Bloomington, ILAge and Occupation: 25, AttorneyFiance's Age and Occupation: 34, AttorneyEngagement Date: March 22, 2010Wedding Date: September 2011Venue: Mackinaw Valley Vineyard; Bloomington Center for the Performing ArtsAbout Me: I found my Southern counterpart in law school and since he popped the question last March, we have been busy graduating, job searching, bar taking, and wedding planning. My loves include must see TV, magnets, quotes, anything green, my car, fun socks, the Cubs, and my Mr. Together we love wine, playing outside, and exploring the world together. Stay tuned to see our Midwest wedding full of Southern charm, vintage flair, lots of DIY details, and a whole lot o’ wine.
With my second bridal shower just around the corner, I’ve been tempted more than ever to registry stalk to figure out what, if any, gifts I can expect at this upcoming soiree (I always peek at my Christmas presents). I’ve been pretty good about ignoring my instinct to check out our online registries every chance I get, but the temptation to give into my urges is getting quite strong. So instead of checking out my registry, I’m going to tell you ladies about it (and maybe we can commiserate together?).
For those of you who watched Friends (which should be everyone), I am the epitome of Rachel when it comes to gifts. I have a list. You do not deviate from the list. If you deviate, your gift will be returned. OK, I’m not that bad (I hope no one is), but if someone is going to spend money on a gift I think they would want it to be something we will actually use and want, so we naturally opted for a registry. Plus, I have some relatives that are pretty much the worst gift givers of all time. So many returned sweatshirts featuring cats…so many.
Anyway, we knew we had to register. Between the two of us, Mr. Pony and I already owned many of the typical registry items. He has a Dyson, I have place settings for 12; but we really wanted to use this as an opportunity to upgrade many of our kitchen items we purchased from garage sales or received as hand me downs and to mix in a couple new fun purchases that we wouldn’t normally buy for ourselves. So without further ado…
Mrs. Ladyfingers, Saint Petersburg, FLAge and Occupation: 30, Marketing ManagerFiance's Age and Occupation: 33, Sports WriterEngagement Date: December 24, 2010Wedding Date: November 2011Venue: Palma Sola Botanical ParkAbout Me: I hail from Oklahoma, he was born and raised in Long Island. Fate brought us together, and now we live in a cute little rental house with our nutty dog, and our aloof cat. We both love to read, watch movies, explore our town, and laugh like hyenas. When I’m not obsessively wedding crafting, I enjoy stalking style and decorating blogs, making collages and painting, napping, thrifting, rearranging our bookshelves, and being a total weirdo with my friends. Hi!
I keep meaning to make a quick visit to Crate&Barrel, where we’ve set up the bulk of our registry, just to feel our chosen silverware in my hands. Aside from that, however, we’ve bucked common wisdom and done all of our registries online, both at C&B and Bed Bath & Beyond.
Like many, we’d love money. Heh. But while I was going through the pages of each website, I did see many a thing we can use, mostly in the kitchen area. For one, we do not own a KitchenAid mixer (oh, for shame!!!) or a proper food processor (shame, shame). We could use a few more serving pieces, but we absolutely do not need any china—I inherited my grandmother’s semi-formal china that we use every day, and her formal-formal china for special occasions. Not to mention, we’re not inviting nearly enough guests to hope for more than a soup turren and a couple of saucers in our pattern.
The registry was super fun to set up—It’s like window shopping! That we don’t have to pay for!—so I thought I’d take a few minutes to introduce you to our Top 10 Favorite God-I-Hope-We-Get-It Registry Items.

Mrs. Cucumber Sandwich, Washington, DC/Cape May, NJAge and Occupation: 28, School CounselorFiance's Age and Occupation: 40, Collegiate AthleticsEngagement Date: March 27, 2010Wedding Date: October 2011Venue: Congress Hall HotelAbout Me: I am a school counselor who spends my day wrangling children and my nights attempting to be creative with wedding projects. My enthusiasm for each of these activities far surpasses my skill. Thank goodness Mr. Cucumber Sandwich is there to pick up the pieces and be the voice of reason about my DIY tries. I have an obsession with terrible romantic comedies (‘From Justin to Kelly’ anyone?, anyone?!?), competitive Scrabble play, and hot dogs. I could eat astronaut ice cream for every meal and can’t seem to resist buying more shoes. Our wedding is going to be a true hodge podge of semi-destination, tradition, Yuengling, New England charm, with just a dash of ‘Jersey Shore’ thrown in. It has been six years in the making and I can’t wait to marry my best friend.
Mr. Cucumber Sammie and I stopped at registration station! We have two bridal registries and are debating adding a third. Our first registry was at Crate&Barrel.
Mrs. Cannon, Toledo, OHAge and Occupation: 27, Financial AnalystFiance's Age and Occupation: 28, AssemblerEngagement Date: February 28, 2011Wedding Date: September 2011Venue: Epworth UMC & Ward PavilionAbout Me: I'm the curious combination of being a go-with-the-flow, laid back, obsessive planner. I try desperately to stay as busy as possible at all times (and am succeeding big time right now!) My biggest loves in life are Law & Order: SVU, Community (the show, not the concept, although I like that, too), ice cream, white cheddar popcorn, beer, hiking, knitting, decorating, writing, being outside, spending time with friends and family and musical theater. Mr. Cannon is pretty sweet, too. We've had a lot of fun traveling and having adventures all over the country, but have finally moved back near our hometown to settle down. We're planning a low-key, colorful, fun wedding and an awesome-to-the-max reception.
Creating a registry is something you should probably plan. Mr. Cannon and I did not. Bombshell was putting together shower plans and commanded us to register so she could tell people where we were registered, and so we went. We had no idea what we were going to register for. We don’t really need anything, but there are definitely things we want. Off we went, with vague ideas of wanting.
This is probably going to sound weird, but registering was kind of romantic for me. Not the actual registering part (that was kind of boring), but we had a babysitter for Cherry Bomb, so it was just Mr. Cannon and me walking around together. Almost every time we get a babysitter, there is a reason for it, and we attend to that reason and that’s it. But while we were registering, we didn’t have anything else to worry about except each other and our scanner guns. So it felt like a nice little date. We just wandered around holding hands and were able to give our full undivided attention to each other, which is a pretty rare treat. Yeah, it’s lame, but I really enjoyed it.
Miss Sweet Cream, PhiladelphiaAge and Occupation: 26, Public Relations Account ManagerFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Outside SalesEngagement Date: July 4, 2010Wedding Date: October 2011Venue: Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church / Rosebank WineryAbout Me: Born in the ‘burbs of Philly, it took some time living in the Big Apple to realize that I’m a girl who likes her roots. That’s why the mister and I bought a 1950s house on a charming street not too far from our childhood stompin’ grounds. This could also be the reason why our hometown is the scene where we are planning our super sweet, totally charming, BBQ-for-supper wedding that I never knew I always wanted. I DIE over DIY projects and live for vintage, heartfelt inspiration. I obsess over all things mid-century (from forks to furniture). Love is… cartoons and flea markets, and I am known to whip up a mean banana cream pie. I met the Mr. in grade school and after that boy took me for a spin on the handle bars of his BMX, I knew that things would never be the same again. Besides lovin’ my Mr., I also love to plan, sew and create, and that’s just what I’m doing as I navigate through the details, creating a laid-back day that oozes charm; one that will go down in (at least our) history as the Best. Day. Of all time.
After we got engaged, but before we starting talking about registering, we just knew there was one place that we couldn’t wait to tackle head on with a scanning gun: Lowe’s.
Being a bad modern couple who bought their house prior to tying the knot, we frequent home-improvement stores on the weekends and get lost in them—and lost from each other—as we gaze at paint, tools, planters, electrical boxes, sheet rock, and gardening supplies.
We were giddy with the excitement of unwrapping things that we desperately need as we hammer, revamp, and refinish our way through our adorable 1950s dream house.
Well…as many of you bees know, Lowe’s and Home Depot both discontinued their registries to the disappointment and outrage of brides- and grooms-to-be across the country. Trust me. Just Google “Lowe’s” and “registry.”
After digging and digging, I wound up finding this:
Mrs. Marmalade, Norwalk, CT/Raleigh, NCAge and Occupation: 27, Administrative AssistantFiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Army OfficerEngagement Date: December 31, 2009Wedding Date: July 2011Venue: Old Cadet Chapel/Highlands Country ClubAbout Me: I'm a Tri-State area "lady," through and through. A big chunk of my life has been split between NYC and Connecticut, and I'm finally heading down south to live with Mr. Marmalade. Our long distance relationship has been one adventure after the next, we've spent time in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Georgia, thanks to his military career. Next to Mr. Marmalade, my loves include live music, useless trivia, shoes, design, and my crazy half-tiger kitty, Oliver. I have a passion for food and wine, and I've been known to travel long distances to get my hands on the best meals. I come from a tight-knit big fat Greek Ecuadorian family---we're loud, we talk with our hands, and we spend hours talking loudly with our hands over large meals. I'm going to miss them so much as I pack up and begin my life, far away from home. But with Mr. Marmalade by my side, I'm ready to take on whatever may come. Next up: our wedding!
Mrs. High Wire, DallasAge and Occupation: 23, Legal AssistantFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Director of CommunicationsEngagement Date: October 9, 2010Wedding Date: September 2011Venue: Clark GardensAbout Me: My loves include yoga, anything spicy, our eccentric cat, our rambunctious dog, and Mr. High Wire, of course! Like the steadiness act of the tightrope walker, this gal is busy balancing life while planning a wedding to the man of her dreams. We’re hosting a laid-back, vintage-inspired, bird themed wedding with heavy doses of love, good eats (did someone say tacos and margaritas?), and endless Texas charm. Mr. High Wire and I are so happy to have you along for the walk across the tight rope.
I’m a big believer that your registries are something that you absolutely need to keep an eye on. I know Miss Bunting feels me on that one! We’ve worked very hard on our registry and continue to adjust as necessary. I don’t know if I would go so far as to call it “living and breathing,” but it definitely is something that will need little changes and adjustments as you go, depending on your circumstances.
I don’t consider it stalking, really, since I feel you need to make sure that there is always something at multiple price points for your guests, and if someone comes along and scoops up all of the items that are less than $100, the rest of your guests will be forced to spend at least $100+ if they want to buy something on your registry.

Registering for gifts is like a grownup version of a dream Christmas list. When else do you get to single-handedly handpick what you want to be gifted for a party where you are the guest of honor?? So while BM Sweet Cream shrieked with glee after hearing that Mr. Sweets and I were going to register, I wasn’t that thrilled inside.
Why the crazy talk, you ask?
Because Mr. Sweet Cream and I were up against Mission Impossible.

Mrs. Biscuit, Morgantown, WVAge and Occupation: 24, Dental StudentFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Chemist at a pharmaceutical companyEngagement Date: April 2010Wedding Date: July 2011Venue: Catholic Church, Lakeview Golf Resort and SpaAbout Me: I'm an engineer who decided to trek back to my hometown three years ago to become skilled in the arts of drilling and filling. I'm engaged to a pretty awesome guy who tests your assorted benzodiazepines by day and home brews by night. Together we have two fur children, Tsali and Tobias N. Fünkat. I'm a lazy perfectionist and eternal sorority girl who enjoys running, crafting, string cheese, good beer, and bad reality TV. We are planning a Big Fat Italian/Sicilian/Polish wedding filled with DIY details and are expecting 300 +/- 50 guests. Our whimsical summer affair is themed "Alice attends the Mad Hatter Vintage Garden Tea Party in a Ballroom. She Thinks That The Venue is Odd for a Vintage Garden Party, but is Tripping on LSD, so She Doesn't Really Care." Yes, I am the Dickens of themes.
Mr. Biscuit and I registered very early in the planning process. Like, last June early. I know, I know, I was jumping the gun a bit, but I was bored and spending way too much time in front of my computer while I was supposed to be studying for my boards.
After that deed was done, Mr. Biscuit and I started thinking. Did we really need a registry? Mr. B has lived on his own for years and can cook (yay!) so he has pretty much everything he would need for the kitchen. I like to bake and don’t really have the supplies for it; however, Mr. B’s oven is a glorified heating coil that I can’t bake in as I’ve been sufficiently spoiled by my parents’ professional grade oven, and we also don’t really have room for a ton of stuff as Mr. Biscuit’s house is about 1000 sq. feet. Sure, after I graduate we may move into a larger house, but until then, it would be kind of close quarters. And I don’t really like the idea of having close quarters with a pastry cutter. That’s creepy.
To be perfectly honest, we could really use a little help on mortgage payments over a new pot or pan. But, uh, it would probably be considered a wee bit crude to register for cash.
So, we decided the easiest thing to do was to register for nothing. Read more…
