After a wedding and the holidays, we often find ourselves with a collection of gift cards. Gift card holders are often made of cardstock with nifty graphic effects and textures, and they always seem to carry so much recycle potential. Today, I made these out of some Starbucks gift card holders with a fuzzy textured print:
Chelsea Petaja and her hubby are on the cover of the premiere issue of Southern Weddings Magazine. Chelsea is a Weddingbee PRO and blogged about it here!
Aren’t Chelsea and Tec the cutest couple ever? My friend once sent me the pictures from their wedding and I remember saying to her, “Oh, that’s a fake wedding. Those are models.” Hahaha. I was wrong. They are gorgeous and I’m excited to see them on the cover of the premier issue of the mag!
A small part of our little ol’ wedding is gracing the pages of the magazine as well.

With couplehood comes the inevitably tough decision: Where will we spend the holidays? For the newly engaged and newlywed, it’s often a tough choice, many of us leaving our parents for the first time for the holiday season. It’s tough to talk about who you’re “ditching” this season, and our parents are equally pained when their little ones grow up and leave the nest around the holidays. I guess I consider myself lucky; I work with my parents year-round, so leaving them at the holidays every year to spend Christmas in Minnesota with Mr. Peng’s family is not a totally painful decision.
However, just to make it as painless as possible, my parents usually vacation in December through January, leaving us with a little less guilt. They hardly know it’s Christmas when they’re off sipping from coconuts on a beach somewhere.

Hello from chilly Minnesota! It’s been colder here than it has been in all the years I’ve been traveling here for Christmas! Right now it’s -3 degrees outside (but with wind chill it feels like -16). Wow. I’ve been getting my exercise (OK, just this one time) by shoveling the driveway in the cutest clothes I could find at my MIL’s house. This pink pants/teal jacket/red mittens/orange shovel combo is sure to be the hot new color palette of 2009.
Anyhoo, we just picked up my brother-in-law from the airport, and he asked Mr. Peng what I was doing today. Mr. Peng said I was editing for Weddingbee today, and my BIL remarked that he doesn’t read Weddingbee anymore, because I only wrote about him once. I guess it’s funny that he’d been reading Weddingbee in the first place, hoping to catch a mention of himself! It got me to thinking about all you gals out there (like me) that blog your most intimate details of your lives.

Got leftover wedding invitations lying around and don’t have the heart to throw them away quite yet? I’ve got a holiday suggestion:

I know I made noise about making a Kolo Album for our parents for Christmas, but in the end, I just couldn’t choose only 30 pictures to include in the album, so I went the Blurb route instead. I considered an Mpix assembled album for a while, which I’m sure makes much higher quality albums, but the $200+ price tag (times 3, for 3 sets of parents) turned me off a bit. Blurb’s free book making software was easy to use and in less than a week the books arrived at our doorstep! I thought I’d pass on a few things I learned about Blurb’s books. I chose the hardcover ImageWrap option and premium paper.

Did everyone but me know that there are so many rules regarding wedding guest attire before planning their own wedding? Different resources yield varying info, but I guess black can be too somber and red can be too distracting… and holy crap, people get all kinds of worked up about wearing white!
I honestly didn’t think I would remotely care if anyone showed up to the wedding wearing white. In fact, there were quite a few guests who wore white dresses with brightly colored accessories and they were all gorgeous! But when I first saw the hubs’ grandma for the first time that day dressed entirely in white, my first thought was… ‘Oh no!’
With so many recently married Bees in the Northern California area, we were dying to get together before the holiday season. Mrs. Penguin, Mrs. Green Tea, Mrs. Lemon and I met up to do a little Pre-Thanksgiving stomach stretching with some fondue at Melting Pot (shout out to Miss Fondue!). Tuesday night we gathered empty-bellied, ready to stuff ourselves silly.

Getting Ready
Right before the ceremony began, the wedding party was lined up and prepped for launch. The ring bearer (RB) and flower girl (FG) were being overseen at the end of the line by their mom and the MOH, who reported the following conversation:

I don’t think it was ever a doubt in either Mr. Peng’s nor my mind that I would come tragically close to losing my wedding or engagement ring. In a way, it was kind of a stupid idea to buy me anything of such great monetary value. I’ve never worn jewelry in my life, and I had always said to Mr. Peng that my engagement ring would be the first and last expensive piece of jewelry that he’d ever buy me. (I always knew I wanted a fairly plain wedding band… I ended up getting an eternity band which was pretty expensive for us, but not over-the-top.)
Yesterday we were finishing up some home improvement projects, and took a banister outside to our parking lot to paint it white.
Here’s where the story gets stupid.

I’m the ultimate procrastinator. I wouldn’t say time is running out quite yet to make parents albums for Christmas, but before you know it, it’ll be December 25th and that album you promised to design and make for your parents or grandparents is nonexistent. For me, the dilemma was different: I really wanted to make a Blurb or Mpix album, but I swore if I had to stare at a computer screen any more than the 12 hours a day I already do so, I was going to go insane.
After seeing Mrs. Cherry Pie assemble her b-pics album with a Kolo and photo corners, I thought about doing the same for my parents albums. After considering photo cornering and gluing the pictures into the albums, Mrs. Lemon turned me on to the Kolo “Riva” album.

Mr. Peng and I are finally married, and one of the great perks about being married is finally breathing easy when it comes to holiday work parties. I remember when we first started out in the workforce, and my girlfriends would stress out so badly about who they were going to bring to their company holiday parties. People would go to great lengths, flying their long distance boyfriends up for the weekend just so they would have a date to their highly anticipated end of year bash.
Mr. Peng and I were at dinner and he mentioned that his company holiday party was coming up. I lit up a little; I work at home so I don’t really do the whole “interact with people” thing on a regular basis. Office politics fascinate me. This guy hates that guy, that girl spits in that guy’s coffee, that girl is gonna get fired… wow! It’s like living in an episode of “The Hills”. Okay, not really, but I’m still quite fascinated by the whole office dynamic. Mr. Peng works in a small practice with about 10 people on staff, and they all get along fairly well… they often hang out after work or on the weekends to play poker, so it’s a decent dynamic.
Anyway, he broke the news that the economy is rough this year (no surprise there) so they’ve decided not to invite significant others to the holiday dinner this year.
