So Fresh and So Clean, Clean

February 19th, 2009 @ 1:00 pm by Mrs. Lemonade

I love playing with different fragrances. I’ll layer a scented body lotion under a refreshing body splash, or wear different perfumes depending on the weather, my mood, etc.

I’ve always known I wanted something special to wear on W day. Since I like and wear such a variety of scents, I don’t really have one that’s my “signature”. You know what that means — time to go shopping!!

Our wedding is outdoors in April. Thus, I wanted a fragrance that evoked springtime, was light and airy, and fresh and clean. After sniffing (what seemed like) hundreds of different scents I think we’ve found a winner, something worthy of becoming my signature bridal scent—

About Mrs. Lemonade

My family has a curse. It has afflicted my mother, father, sister and myself. It is the curse of horrible handwriting (seriously, we should all be doctors!).

When the task of addressing our beautiful Arturo envelopes came to mind, I started to have a mini panic attack as I imagined my awful scrawl splattered all over the front of the cottony goodness. Labels were always an option, but somehow I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.

I spent many hours researching calligraphy and found myself fantasizing about the incredible work of Laura Hooper and Michele Clark. Unfortunately these lovely ladies were completely out of my price range.

As they say, timing is everything, and as my dreams of calligrapher envelopes were about to be dashed, one of my favorite bridal bloggers opened her own calligraphy shop! It was fate, I tell you! Sarah’s work is beautiful and classic and she has been a joy to work with!!

These babies are on their way back to me as we speak:

Crew to the Rescue!

February 8th, 2009 @ 1:30 pm by Mrs. Lemonade

Now, I know we’ve had our ups and downs. As you may remember we recently had a big fight that left us not on speaking terms. Yet, just like any solid friendship, time heals all wounds and eventually we made up. I’m speaking, of course, of my true best friend, J.Crew (who happens to be good pals with many of the other bees!).

I had been a bit distraught lately as the perfect wedding shoes kept eluding me. I’d searched bridal sites, high-end department stores, bargain outlets, EVERYWHERE to no avail. With my tail between my legs I trotted back over to the Crew site to test the waters and see what I could find. Within minutes I found a pair of beautiful Italian-made heels (with an ankle strap! Hooray!) and the perfect matching clutch. Crew and I made up, I placed the items in my cart, checked out, and called it a day. Except 2 days later I had yet to receive a confirmation email. Now, I’ve ordered enough items in my day to know the confirmation email comes pretty darn quickly. Damn you, J.Crew, are you still trying to spite me?!

I quickly called the customer service line and spent the next 30 minutes chatting with the most professional and genuine CSR I have yet to encounter. I previously had a VERY BAD experience with an ahem, gentleman, during the bridesmaid dress fiasco (side note, yes, she has found the dress!) and I was wary of a repeat performance leaving me accessory-less. Luckily I hit the CSR jackpot and was connected to a dude who (seemed) to actually care about his job and my shoes. Read more…

You’re Invited: The Process

February 4th, 2009 @ 5:17 pm by Mrs. Lemonade

I’m going to go ahead and state the obvious here – I love letterpress. I adore the final product with its beautiful textures and perfect imperfections. I also love the process. I love the idea of being connected to something with so much history behind it.I asked Judy and Arnold (our fantastic invite designers and printers) to capture a few images from the printing process of our invites and walk me through the process.

They were printed on a Golding Jobber #6 from 1908! Judy has lovingly named her Esther (after synchronized swimmer Esther Williams for her sexy curvaceous legs). I’m told they know she is pre-1911 because she still has the S-spokes on the wheel.

Guess what I picked up this afternoon?! That’s right peeps, our BEAUTIFUL handmade invitations. They are amazing. Judy and Arnold, the incredibly talented artists who created these little works of art for us, are even MORE amazing. Not only did they work their tushies off to craft each piece in time for our February 1st deadline, but they also gifted Mr. Lemonade and me with a little treat to celebrate the upcoming nuptials and to take the edge off the mounting stress we’ve been feeling.

January 28th, 2009 @ 4:40 pm by Mrs. Lemonade

As the days tick by and we get closer and closer to W day, I am feeling the need to knock items off the mile-long to do list. Luckily most of the big crafty projects are winding down and I’m left with a list of items that need to be purchased. Slowly but surely I’ve been knocking these puppies out on an almost daily basis (which is kinda fun as almost every day now seems like Christmas. Not so much fun when I look at my bank statements.) Anyhow, the most recent purchase was justified as it can be used again and again after the wedding. Score one for practicality.

We ordered this sweet little return address stamp from Etsy seller babyjewels last night.

Well, That Was a Freebie

January 14th, 2009 @ 3:39 pm by Mrs. Lemonade

I have to be at work very early in the morning. Thus, I wake up at an ungodly hour every morning, long before Mr. Lemonade or our furbaby, Vida, even consider opening their eyes.

Yesterday morning started off like any other. I woke up about 15 minutes before the alarm went off, headed downstairs to start my pot o’ addiction and trotted back upstairs to continue on with my typical morning rituals.

After applying my face and picking out a suit for the day I rummaged through my jewelry drawer to find my pearls, watch and engagement ring. Pearls, check! Watch, check! Ring… um, not so much. The ring wasn’t in the drawer. So, I checked my second jewelry drawer, one that I use for costume jewelry. No dice. At this point I was starting to feel a bit concerned. I dashed back to my closet and checked the pockets of everything I wore the day before. No ring. Emptied the contents of my briefcase and purse. Again, no ring.

So, there we were at 5:45 in the morning and I was tearing through the house emptying drawers, tossing pillows and cushions, searching every crevice, nook, and cranny I could find to no avail. I must have uttered every four letter word in the English language and turned on half the lights in the house, yet the damn ring was nowhere to be found. As much as it pained me to do so, I had to leave for work so off I went with my left hand ring finger totally exposed and naked.

January 9th, 2009 @ 10:33 am by Mrs. Lemonade

Like many of y’all I have a little countdown to W day on my Google homepage (Mr. Lemonade has one on his too!). I don’t spend much time on the actual page anymore though, since I use my Crackberry for everything from reading blog posts in Reader, to sending email, to conversing on GChat.

Yesterday, however, I logged in for some reason or another and noticed something that caused my already high blood pressure to spike a bit more:

Bride Wars

January 8th, 2009 @ 11:28 am by Mrs. Lemonade

I don’t really see a lot of movies. It’s hard for me to devote that much time to something so seemingly frivolous. Well, I’m in the mood for some frivolity!

This weekend my sweet little sister is coming to visit, and guess what we’re going to be doing for about an hour and a half on Saturday?

Dress Drama

January 6th, 2009 @ 12:49 pm by Mrs. Lemonade

Dress Drama : wedding bridesmaid dress san antonio Sophia The bane of my existence

Forget the shoes, we have MUCH bigger fish to fry. Much. Turns out lovely Island bridesmaid, C, did not order her dress from el Crew like she was supposed to. It also turns out that my good friends in the oh-so-helpful and knowledgeable Weddings and Parties division were somewhat misinformed on the continuation of the Sophia navy into spring as clearly this is not the case.

When I was first informed of this malady I didn’t get angry.

About Mrs. Lemonade

Outside of the design process (which went surprisingly extremely smoothly) the biggest decision we’ve had to make in regards to our wedding invitations has been what paper to have them printed on. If you will recall, our lovely Save the Dates were printed on the super yummy Luxe Cream cardstock from Paper Source. I am a big BIG fan of this paper and Paper Source in general. Unforch the supremely talented artists, Judy and Arnold, who are creating our little masterpieces aren’t the biggest fans of the Luxe paper.

When we met for the first time they brought LOADS of samples printed on various papers. It was such fun pouring over the various weights and textures. However, after the third or fourth they all started to look and feel the same… I mean, it is just paper (albeit very special and fancy paper). That said, I was able to narrow the field of contenders down pretty early on.

Judy and Arnold’s “house” paper is Crane’s Lettra. The Lettra is a beautiful 100% cotton paper that comes in a variety of colors. Supposedly it was created specifically for letterpress, although rumor has it that it works equally well under other printing techniques. This is beautiful paper and I’ve seen some amazing invitations printed on it.

I Need Help. Please.

December 30th, 2008 @ 2:28 pm by Mrs. Lemonade

I am shoeless, people. This is not good. I have dress fittings coming up in the very near future and I need to have my shoes. Not just any shoes, mind you, but THE shoes.

You may recall the original plan was to sport some sweet navy Louboutins. Unforch for me the recent economic downturn has hit a little close to home and dropping over $800 on shoes just doesn’t seem prudent. A couple of months ago I started the hunt a new in hopes of finding some kicks that are a bit more recession friendly. And find them I did – sorta. My girl, Kate, never disappoints, especially when it comes to her fantabulous bridal line. I love so many of these shoes but none were quite right. Then I met these babies:

Any Excuse to Celebrate

December 23rd, 2008 @ 3:51 pm by Mrs. Lemonade

Hello my lovelies! So sorry that I have been so absent as of late! Mr. Lemonade and I have been so darn busy running around trying to get the holidays squared away (which may or may not include us breaking multiple post office machines and running for our lives from the angry villagers still lined up with their packages). We did, however, take a quick break from the merriment to celebrate our engage-iversary.

On Saturday we headed BACK to San Antonio (seriously racking those miles up on the ol’ Jeep), but this time it was to catch our boys in black beating up on the Raptors. Mr. Lemonade surprised me with BOX SEATS at the AT&T Center on Saturday night. We had such a good time (the W definitely helped)! You know what they say, you can take the girl out of San Antonio…

Trials and Tribulations

December 17th, 2008 @ 10:28 am by Mrs. Lemonade

So, as I mentioned last week I made my way to SA for my hair and makeup trial. Overall I am pretty happy with the results. Roseanne is incredibly adorable and very talented — she even gave my sister a haircut for free while we were sitting there!

Anyhow, I believe with a few minor tweaks we will have the PERFECT wedding day look (for me at least).
Okay, okay! Enough with the chitchat and on to the pictures.
Now, you know I love you guys so I’m doing the unthinkable and posting the worst pictures I’ve ever taken in my life on the Internet. If that’s not love, I don’t know what is.

Oh, Make Me Over*

December 11th, 2008 @ 3:26 pm by Mrs. Lemonade

*Any of my grrrls remember this song?!

This weekend I’ll be heading back to SA to celebrate my father’s birthday with the fam (Happy b-day, Dad!). Since I’m a big fan of multi-tasking I’ll also have my hair and makeup trial that afternoon.

My overall wedding day ‘look’ isn’t something that I’ve put much thought into. I’ve known from the beginning that up-dos aren’t for me. I’ve seen some beautiful up-dos on brides that I just love, but I always look bald with all my hair pulled back. Seriously, so that’s out. This makes me kinda sad because I have been enamored with this picture since the campaign came out:
