About Me: I’m a total wonkette who is lucky enough to be surrounded by her favorite things on a daily basis – awesome music, the great State of Texas and of course, Mr. Lemonade! I find any excuse I can to craft something and am completely infatuated with the 1950’s, all things Kennedy, and my furbaby Vida.
Remember how bummed I was when we
ruled out the Gocco for our invites? (I was really very sad as dreams of an infinite supply of personalized paper projects were dashed before my very eyes.)
I still have a major crush on Mr. Gocco (what can I say, when I fall, I fall hard) and had to share these fantastic finds with y’all.

With the winter holidays right around the corner I’ve had gift giving on my mind quite a bit lately. This got me thinking about wedding day gifts for my groom. From the beginning I’ve wanted to make sure to remember to pick something up for him to open the morning of W day, but what to give?

We’ve been planning our wedding for almost a year now. It’s funny to me because (as I’ve mentioned a million times before) I NEVER thought I was the marrying type. I’ve always been a bit Bohemian and anti-establishment, and a freakin’ Disney-princess-white-wedding was never something I was into. NEVER in a million years. Then I got engaged and BAM! I became this bride-to-be person. I started fantasizing about flowers, trying on every big ball gown-y white dress I could find, and making decisions that were VERY uncharacteristic of me. I don’t think I was/am a Bridezilla, I think I was overwhelmed by the task of taking on something so huge with no prior experience. Digging deeper, I think I also really wanted to impress everyone. Not Platinum Weddings impress them, but “Oh wow, look what crazy black sheep M just did. She really straightened herself out and cleaned up her act” impress them, or something along those lines. It’s also funny to me that while I was making these decisions I was also spending an obscene amount of time reading wedding blogs—the vast majority of which had indie souls and preached the virtues of an ‘alternative wedding’. Those sites appealed to me because at their core, their ‘value’ systems are very similar to mine. Yet, I was wearing a bride mask while I worked hard to hide my own quirks and eccentricities.
I don’t really regret the decisions I’ve made.

Well hello, long time, I know… It’s been a CRAZY couple of days here and I have so much to catch up on! I haven’t unplugged for this long in years and I still feel a bit out of it (you should see how overwhelmed my poor Google Reader is right now…).
Anyhow, Mr. Lemonade and I finally finished moving into the new home and out of the old one late last night. Honestly, the only thing that’s been on my mind the past 3 days has been packing, unpacking, and ensuring Vida makes the transition smoothly (she already used her head as a battering ram and busted a hole in the brand freakin’ new fence). However, now that we’re in, it’s all wedding (and a bit of Christmas decorating and planning merriment) all the time.
First up, cocktail hour décor. I can’t believe I totally forgot about this! When we were in SA a while ago for our walkthrough/tasting we decided that during our cocktail hour we are going to have passed appetizers with 6 tall cocktail tables set up inside and outside for people to place their stuff on and whatnot. I TOTALLY didn’t even consider that I’d have to find a way to decorate the darn things as well! Ugh. Well, recently I brainstormed about it a bit in an attempt to find the most attractive and cost effective option. Thanks to my awesome Bee counterparts I’ve come up with an easy and inexpensive plan.

I’m a BIG fan of monograms. Ever since I was a wee one my mom dressed me up in little jumpers, bibs, sweaters, and the like that proudly sported my initials. My collection has continued to grow over the years and now includes totes, purses, and many housewares. I’ve stopped ordering monogrammed items for myself, as in less than five short months, my monogram will change. However, that hasn’t stopped me from perusing in-store monograms, especially since I’m planning on putting our personal stamp on many elements throughout W day. Lately this has proved to be much more difficult than in the past.

My mother has impeccable taste. Ever since I was a little girl I have adored her chic style and absorbed her lessons on fashion. We believe in quality, well made goods that will last a lifetime. We tend to shy away from anything with logos but have a deep appreciation for iconic pieces and craftsmen. Anyhow, many many moons ago my mother and I were having her watch cleaned (a classic Tank with navy lizard strap, a fabulous gift from my father). To entertain myself I floated around the store peering into each glass case, falling in love with almost every piece. I remember that as I looked over the rings and wedding bands, my mother joined me and we dreamt together that one day when (if) I got married this would be the only acceptable ring for such an occasion (sans diamonds…she probably thinks the diamonds are gaudy… I love them):

It’s the Cartier Trinity rolling ring with a few little diamonds. I love it, always have. As you know I have a propensity towards unique and different jewelry. Herein lies the dilemma.

I’ve been really watching my weight and working really hard to get in shape and lose the post-smoking weight. A while ago I concocted a little program for myself built on tons of research I’d done online and with nutritionists. I work out (almost) everyday and restrict my calories. The restricting of the calories has been pretty easy for me, as I have relied on prepackaged meals (the horrors!) for lunch and dinner about 5 times a week. Think I’ve been having fancy meals delivered? Think again my friends.

While I’ll be the first to admit a bridal clutch falls pretty low on the list of priorities, I’ll also be the first to admit that I have a bit of a bag addiction.
When I moved into my current home, I had a shelf installed to run the entire perimeter of my room to house my collection. Suffice it to say I will be adding to said collection a special little bag to commemorate W day. I still can’t decide between a light ivory and or/gold combo (perhaps with a blue lining…) or a darker blue one.
That’s where you come in. Can you help me decide?

Mr. Lemonade and I went home to San Antonio once again this weekend. We were on a mission to find the perfect rehearsal dinner venue. Now, you may be thinking — didn’t we already have the RD venue in the bag? Well, yes and no. You see, we love the place, we really do, but we have had building concerns RE: location. The restaurant is located on the Riverwalk in downtown San Antonio. I’m not sure if you know this, but San Antonio is the seventh largest city in the US. The Riverwalk is a HUGE tourist attraction that is constantly bustling with people. Also, our RD will be on a Friday which lends itself to rush hour traffic.
Oh, and Fiesta. Yeah, I think I mentioned this, but Fiesta opens the same day. Thousands of tourists will be descending upon the city and only about a hundred of them will be ours. I am envisioning pandemonium. Thus, Mr. Lemonade and I decided to hit up a few of our favorite Mexican restaurants that aren’t located in downtown San Antonio, to see if we could find an equally tasty and authentic venue.
While we had a whole list of venues we wanted to check out we ended up calling it a day after our first one! Seriously, it’s that perfect.

Any local gals care to guess the venue?

I love topiaries! I briefly entertained the idea of using them as centerpieces for all of the guest tables. That idea got scrapped, but I still wanted to incorporate a few topiaries here and there. After some research on the interwebs I found some adorable inspiration and determined our sweets buffet the perfect home for a few.

I am happy to report that we have booked our second band for our reception!
{image source}
Originally I had decided on (and budgeted for) a DJ. I hadn’t consulted Mr. Lemonade on this (big mistake) and just figured it would be fine. Well, it wasn’t. As you may recall, Mr. Lemonade works in the music industry managing and booking bands. As soon as he heard about my decision to book a DJ he immediately offered his assistance to take on the entertainment responsibilities (and put the kibosh on any recorded music). I pretty much left it up to him from there on out.

I’m currently debating the necessity of fancy linens. Our venue will provide ivory or white tablecloths (that do not go all the way to the floor… what is up with that?!) and ivory or white napkins. I’m down with the ivory napkins, but I don’t think I can get behind the shortie tablecloths.
I really like the idea of champagne pintucked satin or ivory dupioni silk.

However, I don’t really like the idea of paying around $30 per table. With 14 guest tables and 2 specialty tables I’d be out over $400 for rentals! Ouch!

I’m pretty excited about our flower girls. Mr. Lemonade and I lucked out big time because I have really cute cousins!
Their participation is also pretty cool because I was a flower girl in one of their mom’s weddings and my sister was in the other.
Don’t hate on my awesome haircut.
Recently my aunt emailed me inquiring about attire for her little one. Crap.
