Miss Cherry Pie, Seattle/Polebridge, MontanaAge and Occupation: 25, Marketing Communications SpecialistFiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Nurse PractitionerEngagement Date: August 26, 2006Wedding Date: September 2008Blogging Since: April 1, 2008Venue: A tiny town just outside of Glacier National ParkAbout Me: I think of life as a journey and I love the places it's taking me! I went to school to study Magazine Journalism, ended up with a second major in Japanese language, and now work at a company that makes software for libraries. I love writing, computers, photography, and the great outdoors. I spend most of my time playing Guitar Hero and Rock Band or geeking out online with Mr. Cherry Pie. I'm happiest when I'm on the road, especially traveling abroad, or just nesting quietly at home with my sweetie, who is a fabulous cook and bakes a delicious rendition of a certain cherry-filled dessert!
Our artist friend Cathy, the same one who will be marrying us, also gave us the incredible gift of helping create our Save the Date Cards. Because she works with paper, she has a ton of paper stockpiled in her Montana studio and offered to supply all of our materials and printing for free!
We hadn’t yet decided on a wedding theme or colors, so we decided to keep our design simple. I created a minimalist text template in InDesign with all of our information:

My mom has always been a DIY queen, and I'm just now starting to get into it with a new house and a wedding to plan!
The date that is! We finally got our Save the Dates out the day before yesterday, hence my lack of posting this week. I went back and forth for weeks over the design, and, finally, settled with a simple monogram and a simple Save the Date. The monogram will be constant throughout the wedding. I decided that less is more and wanted to keep it simple, classic, but still have a personal touch to all of the paper for our wedding.

I’ve been on the ball with everything for this wedding. Ahead of the game, way too early at times, but never really late. Until my Save the Dates.
I kept putting off designing them (and they weren’t even intricate) and when I FINALLY decided on what I wanted and chose where to get them printed, I realized that they will get here with less then 6 months to go. Then I still have to account for addressing and the time it takes to deliver them.
Is it super late that my save the dates will get to everyone with only about 5 months until the wedding? Most of the guests that will have to travel to be at the wedding have the date, so I don’t think that it should be an issue.
I hate being improper, but the time just got away from me. I definitely have learned my lesson and will be doing all things paper as early as I can before the wedding from this point forward.
From most of my wedding planning lists that I’ve accumulated during our engagement, they say to send them out around the six month mark. When did you all send out your save the dates?

After two years, he moved to my neck of the woods, and a year and a half after that, he proposed at the “place we fell in love.” I am a true perfectionist who enjoys designing and creating more work for myself, so wedding planning is my perfect outlet. Mr. Cupcake and I are both old souls, and we hope to weave that aspect of our personalities into our wedding day.
My original wedding timeline had me sending our save the dates back in January. Well, a month and a half late ain’t bad, right?
I spent a ridiculous amount of time on these save the dates, so our guests BEST be saving the damn date if they know what’s good for them!!!! After slaving over the design and assembly, I finally put these bad boys in the mail this week, and I couldn’t be happier. Drumroll please…..

I am knee-deep in DIY projects to keep wedding costs low but quality high for the special day when I get to marry my bestest friend.
That’s Save. The. Dates. Mind out of the gutter, people!
Save the dates were my first major DIY project - and since I was SO excited, they went out NINE MONTHS before the wedding (I think the “etiquette” is at least 4-6 months before, but 9-12 for a destination wedding - mine is not a destination wedding, but heck, I wanted to keep people informed).
I thought the simplest way to do this would be a calendar (since, really, the objective is for our guests to save the date) such as this lovely one from weddingpaperdivas:
Mrs. Jasmine, Chicago/LAAge and Occupation: 25, AttorneyFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, AttorneyEngagement Date: March 24, 2007Wedding Date: June 7, 2008Blogging Since: September 20, 2007Venue: Hotel on the westside of Los AngelesAbout Me: I'm a happy-go-lucky, imaginative spirit trapped in the body of a lawyer. I love reading, shopping, dining out, and exploring my beloved adopted city of Chicago with my fiance. We're planning the wedding of our dreams in my hometown of Los Angeles and we're excited to incorporate our cherished Indian/Pakistani customs and traditions.
As I raced down Michigan Avenue, dodging tourists, bewildered shoppers, and dangerous patches of ice, I realized that I had finally gone bat-sh*t, wedding-crazy. I was racing home to see my newly delivered save-the-date cards.
Saima Khan of Saima Says Design designed my save-the-date cards and will be designing our invitations. Saima is an incredibly talented, stylish, and creative designer who has been an absolute dream to work with. Choosing a stationer was no easy feat, but Saima’s exotic Indian-inspired designs sealed the deal for me. When I saw the PDF of our save-the-date design, I was in love. Somehow, she was able to capture exactly what I had envisioned and hoped for, but was unable to articulate.
I tore into the package with the kind of gusto I usually reserve for bags of candy. Here are my beloved cards (I’m sorry for the generally poor photo quality– these photographs were taken in a fairly dark room):
Mrs. Milkshake, Seattle/Vancouver, BCAge and Occupation: 23, PharmacistFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, PharmacistEngagement Date: May 2007Wedding Date: August 2008Blogging Since: December 6, 2007Venue: Victorian MansionAbout Me: Despite the fact that I’ve invested many long years of my life studying the sciences in college, I’m glad to be out of there and I would never do it again! I’m super artsy at heart - I run an indie craft site, I grew up shooting and developing my own film, doing jazz and ballet, and the whole gamut of art classes. I’ve been called a Jane of all Trades… but I was also told many years ago not to make my passion my career because it’d suck the fun out of it. Hence my choice of day job. We live in Seattle but are having our wedding in Canada to be fair to all our family and friends.
I want to do a film-strip type thing as a save the date, but I can’t just pop a film strip in an envelope and mail it off….so here’s my idea for a card (and of course I’d circle the date). Or am I better off converting the card design into a square fridge magnet? Opinions?

Hello hive! I have missed you! Like some of the other bees, I apologize for being MIA lately. Work as well as grad school applications have taken over my life… I am eagerly awaiting the New Year so that I can once again resume wedding planning (and posting of course)!
One thing I have managed to do, though, is get our save-the-dates out to half of our guests! Thanks to all who weighed in on my post a couple of weeks ago – I went with the majority vote!
Today, I thought I’d provide a quick tutorial on how even a technologically challenged person can create a professional-looking HTML save-the-date with absolutely zero programming involved . Kudos goes to my bridesmaid, Fran, for providing me the tip!

Believe it or not, but we have less than six months til the wedding!… which means we definitely need to get our save-the-dates out. We’ve opted for electronic save the dates, for a variety of reasons:
It’ll save us money (aka it’s free!)
It saves us some time… no assembly and trips to the post office required!
It’s a means of collecting our guests’ most up-to-date addresses
We may end up printing a few of these as postcards for some of our parents’ friends. With the help of these postcard sticker backs, our photo printer, and some matte photo paper, we’ll be able to create them easily while keeping costs down.
Anyhow, I’ve whipped up a couple of designs and would love your votes! We are using one of our engagement pictures that were taken by Scott Robert.
A. Centered with “Save the date” in script
B. Centered with “Save the date” in block letters
C. Flushed right with “Save the date” in block letters
Also, as our wedding colors are pale spring green and pale pink, I was hoping to incorporate an element of green in the save-the-date. Some examples below using text layout C…
