Can you keep a secret? You can? OK, good!
I used to be a tomboy. Yup. All the way up to my senior year. My mom is not girlie at all, and I was raised with two brothers. So baggy jeans, t-shirts, and a ponytail was my everyday look.
Seven years later, I am no longer a tomboy and am quite girlie. I love girlie clothes, jewelry, handbags, shoes, shopping, etc.; everything BUT makeup. I still hate it. I hate the way it feels on my face, uck. It makes me feel like someone painted my face. My daily routine is wash face, apply mascara, and head for the door. It normally works for me, except for when I get stressed—I get monster Texas-size pimples on my chin. With me being a picker, it makes it worse.
I had a makeup trial this weekend. I wanted to make sure I did it in the heat so I could see if it would hold up all day being in Jamaica. Since it has been 95 degrees and up all week, I figured it would be the perfect time. Of course, my Texas-size pimple decided to join the party. Wanna see him?
Can you tell I am not a fan of early mornings on a weekend? Haha.
(in my best Lord of the Rings voice)
About eight months before we became engaged, I came home one day and started looking through a magazine. I was picking out rings and showing them to him. A disgusted look came over his face, and he just stared at me. I asked what was wrong, and he explained that he hadn’t envisioned me in any of the rings that I picked out. Worried, I tried to I explain to him what I was looking for. He offered to take me ring shopping just to get an idea. So that’s exactly what we did. We went over to Robbins Diamonds to see Randy. He explained the 3 Cs of diamond shopping: cut, clarity and color. I giggled and said I wanted a one-carat, flawless princess cut rock. Yeah, I wish!
Well that’s exactly what I got. Of course, Mr. Handy having to go above and beyond, he added some diamonds on the band. Gotta love him!
Wanna see my precioussssssss? (Sorry, ring needs to be cleaned; it’s just not sparkly enough in these photos.)

Smellies, ya know—flowers, the smelly things.
Going into this whole wedding planning extravaganza, I kept telling myself I don’t want flowers in my decor. Yes for my bouquet and my girls’ bouquets, but not my reception or ceremony decor. Being a frugal bride, I couldn’t justify spending oodles of hard earned moolah on something that wasn’t going to last. Yes, flowers are beautiful, they smell wonderful, and who doesn’t like looking at them, but they’re not very budget friendly. Also, Mr. Handy has very bad allergies, to everything; flowers, grass, trees, pollen, dust, and probably even me.
He has them so bad his eyes get really dark circles under them, and he gets miserable. So I was desperate to find cute alternatives.
I had these pics stored away for inspiration…
I can honestly say that planning this wedding has become a hobby. I drool over websites and beautifully articulated weddings, parties, and events all day long. I see a pretty pattern and I’m on that website for hours. I am sure that everyone can relate.
I have a million things bookmarked and tagged for inspiration, from weddings to bridal showers to parties. Wanna see some drool-worthy events?

Remember the ongoing saga of who is walking me down the isle? Brothers or Momma Handy?
After talking with my amazing momma, she told me that she wouldn’t feel comfortable walking me down. She isn’t the type of gal who likes attention and doesn’t want to feel like all eyes are on her. (Again, I have no idea where I came from! Haha.) She said that nothing would make her prouder than to see her three babies walking down the aisle. As much as I wanted her to walk with me, I knew that she wouldn’t feel OK with it…
So after pondering the thought of my handsome brothers walking me down in their amazing uniforms, looking sharp, and being proud of their only sister, it brought tears to my eyes. (What! I’m emotional!) So I called Big Brother Handy, and of course he said yes…
Then I e-mailed Lil Brother Handy and asked him… and his reply was…

After nearly six years with Mr. Handy, we have finally SET A DATE!!!
We were hoping for mid-April because it is out of peak season for Jamaica, and we wanted to go easy on our guests’ wallets. When we arrived in Jamaica back in April, it was deathly hot—too hot for an outdoor wedding. So we decided to bump up the wedding (no complaining from me!). This is how it went down…
Me - OK, since April is obviously out, we need to move it up.
Mr. H - So let’s do Valentine’s Day?
Me - Um…then we can’t use our tax refund, and our guests can’t use theirs either.
Mr. H - OK, so then March.
Me - OK, how about the middle of March?
Mr. H - Three one three!

I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am to write this post. While in Jamaica, we hired photographer Michael Chen to take our engagement pictures. I have chosen only a select few because we have over 45 pictures. We did pick one of them for our save the dates.

Never in my life, did I think I would have this conversation with Mr. Handy:
Me: “I think you should get either a platinum band or titanium.”
Mr.: “I don’t wear jewelry. What makes you think I want a ring?”
Me: “UMMMM, when you get married, you wear a ring.”
Mr.: “But I don’t wear jewelry. It’s uncomfortable.”
Me: “So you’re telling me that you won’t wear your wedding ring because you fear it will be uncomfortable?!”
(tears welling in my eyes)
