A few readers have inquired about my veil from my pro-picture posts, so I’m going to interject some time traveling between my wedding picture posts and flashback to picking out my veil … hope you don’t mind.
I waited to pick out a veil until about couple months before the wedding, ’cause I’m a mad procrastinator like that, and being the indecisive little Radish that I am, I had no idea what I wanted. I went to my dress shop and tried on about three veils before I found “the one.” And of course, it just so happened to be the most expensive veil in the store. Go figure! My mom always said that I had champagne tastes on a beer budget. But, true to the temporary financial insanity that was my wedding attire spending spree, I said screw it and bought the darn thing.
Anyway… here it is! The lace trim is very beautiful in person and looked lovely with the lace accents around the bottom edge of my dress.

I wanted to have a “Here Comes the Bride” banner for my baby brother and my nephew to carry so that I could include them in the wedding somehow. They were a little too old to be ring bearers, plus we wanted to include Mr. Radish’s nephews as ring bearers, so we needed to find another “job” for my boys. I originally planned to get a banner from Here Comes Your Bride, but they stopped taking new orders in July. I heard that they have since closed up shop but I’m not sure if that’s true or not.
Anyway, I realized that it’d be easy and cheaper to just make one myself. Naturally, I waited until the week before the wedding to actually do it, though. It wouldn’t be fun if it wasn’t stressful, right? Luckily, my mom and my aunt decided to take over this project since I was so busy with other stuff.

I’ll get back to posting my wedding pictures soon, but first I’m going to tell you about my flower girl baskets. Just like with deciding on ring pillows, I had an equally hard time picking out baskets and I waited until the last possible minute to come up with something. At least after making my DIY ring pillows it was easier to figure out what to do since I just made them in the same style.
I found some baskets on clearance at the craft store that looked similar to the grapevine wreaths used in the ring pillows. I already had left over fabric, reindeer moss and ribbon, and that’s pretty much all I needed. We took the fabric and lined the basket with it, holding it in place with some tacs and hot glue.

If you caught the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday night you probably noticed some stunning gowns, along with all the beautiful hair and makeup that Mrs. Butterscotch blogged about. I thought some of these dresses could provide great inspiration for anyone out there thinking of having a custom wedding gown made.
My choice for best dressed at the SAGs is definitely French starlet Marion Cotillard in this absolutely breathtaking gown from Nina Ricci. Wouldn’t it make a fabulous wedding dress in white or ivory? Or maybe even in grey for the less traditional bride. It’s so romantic and dreamy and would be flattering on many body types. I also love her hair and makeup. Very understated and natural.

I’m going to interrupt my post-wedding posts for a moment and flashback to some pre-wedding stuff that I got too busy to blog about at the time… like my ring pillow.
I was very indecisive about getting a ring pillow. I couldn’t seem to find one anywhere that I liked. I thought about getting some fabric and making one myself but that plan never came to fruition. Then I found myself two days before the wedding with no ring pillow. At that point, I couldn’t order anything in time and there was nothing good at the store, so it was going to have to be DIY.
Earlier in my planning I had come accross these gorgeous ring “pillows” on the knot and fell in love with the idea of something like this. Of course, I didn’t have the time to make anything quite as good as these, but they were my inspiration.

Here I am, putting the finishing touches on my makeup and I’m almost ready to get dressed. You can see my Uncle Jim next to me in the mirror. He walked me down the aisle and arrived at my hotel suite to take me to the church, since we skipped out on renting a limo to save some money.

I decided to rent a hotel suite instead of staying at my parents’ house on my wedding’s eve. My parents’ house isn’t very big and only has one shower for five people, so I figured it would be easier/less stressful to get a room. A good friend of mine who came from Chicago for the wedding, my two sisters, and one of my bridesmaids all stayed in the suite with me. My remaining bridesmaids and my other sisters (who live in Florida) stayed in hotels that were within walking distance so they all came over and hung out after the rehearsal dinner. We had some last minute things to do and it was a chance for us to have a little time together. I’m glad I did this. It was kind of like a slumber party!
The wedding ceremony was early, at 11:30 am, so everyone got up bright and early to have breakfast together at the hotel and get ready. My photographer, Tim Forbes, came bright and early (8:30 am!) to capture the action. Here are some highlights.
I wore this at the rehearsal the night before. It is actually very ironic… I’ll explain why in a future post.

Our wedding was in August, but I’m just finally getting around to posting our wonderful pro pictures. Our wedding photographer was Tim Forbes of Forbes Creative Photography. Since Tim was with me at my hotel while I was getting ready, he sent his second shooter, Scott McQuarrie, to take these pictures of Mr. Radish and his best man preparing for the big day. Scott actually has his own wedding photo business based in Toronto called Re:Action Inc. and he got some great shots for us and was really nice to work with.
Well… here it is, the first installment in my wedding story. More to come!

Mrs. Radish here wishing you all a very belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Mr. Radish and I are just getting settled back in at home in Chicago after a busy holiday season filled with wintry traveling to our families’ homes in Upstate New York.
(The Radishes at a Christmas Party… clearly, Mr. Radish was feeling a little Scroogey)

Back in the good old days before I became wedding-centric, I used to play my cello almost every day. It was always there for me and ready to work whenever I needed it to. Sure, there have been some broken strings and wolf notes along the way, but overall it was a dependable old friend. Sadly, we started to grow apart as I found myself more and more immersed in the crazy world of wedding planning.
…and look what became of my cello! A fine hand-carved German instrument suffered the indignity of becoming the place where I pile my clothes. I didn’t even take my cello out of the case for almost four full months! Poor thing.

Yet another thing I forgot to blog about before our wedding was making the direction/map card to insert with our invitations. Similar to when I made our after party invites, I decided to make them myself because I’m cheap and, since I am Adobe challenged, I used Microsoft Publisher to design the card. I got the clip art from a few good public domain sites (see below for links). That part was pretty easy. Making the map, however, was kind of a pain. I used the directions from the MapBio on the Knot, and it probably took me a t least 5 hours to make the darn thing. But on the bright side, it was free and it came out pretty well.

As I mentioned a few months ago, we did our best to make our wedding as as environmentally (and socially) responsible as possible. Now that the wedding is over, I will post a “report card” on how we did later on, but for now I wanted to share a few of my favorite green planning books with you.
My top two favorite books in this category are Eco Chic Weddings by Emily Anderson and Simply Green Parties by Danny Seo.

I may need an Anthropologie intervention soon. I can’t seem to NOT buy something whenever I’m near there. It’s shameful, really.
Back in the spring I went in there to get my rehearsal dinner dress, and I found these adorable little teacups that I just couldn’t resist buying. I got 2 of them at $12 each, which isn’t really very expensive, but I still felt the need to justify this unwarranted purchase — so I made them wedding related! That way Mr. Radish couldn’t chastise me for buying something we didn’t need because I could say, “It’s for the wedding.” He never seems to know how to counter that argument. He just gives me a suspicious look and says, “Okay… I hope it wasn’t expensive.” Poor little guy; he stands no chance against my Anthropologie addiction.
