About Me: Despite the fact that I’ve invested many long years of my life studying the sciences in college, I’m glad to be out of there and I would never do it again! I’m super artsy at heart - I run an indie craft site, I grew up shooting and developing my own film, doing jazz and ballet, and the whole gamut of art classes. I’ve been called a Jane of all Trades… but I was also told many years ago not to make my passion my career because it’d suck the fun out of it. Hence my choice of day job. We live in Seattle but are having our wedding in Canada to be fair to all our family and friends.
Each 8 foot table can seat 8 people when aligned in a long row, so I’d need 15 tables… 15 x 8 = 120 feet? I believe the catering people told me the terrace could seat 200 people at a long table, weather-permitting.

Since we indulged ourselves with letterpress save-the-dates, invitations, programs AND cards to explain the charity tokens, I wanted to change things up a bit for the menus and do something cute and simple. Mini menu madness, in effect!

I love Paper-Source!
LOOK what arrived in the mail late last week:

There you see enough paper to make invites, invite folders + envelopes, RSVPs + envelopes, direction cards and reception cards x 130! (Plus about 20 extra of each for when I inevitably screw up.) Along with my order- which came by way of free shipping!- came the latest Paper-Source catalog. I tossed it aside to get to my beloved paper more quickly- you can see it in the upper right-hand corner there- but happened to pick it up to flip through a little later on.

I wish I could say I came up with something wildly original for our escort cards. I didn’t. I copied an idea straight outta Martha (the original photo can be seen on this Snippet and Ink inspiration board):

Venue: The Abbey Resort
About Me: It’s hard to believe that by the time Mr. Sundae and I get married we will have been together for almost ten years. When we first met in college we split dollar pitchers and now we share the mortgage payments. Despite our love for the city we are looking forward to tying the knot in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.

As I mentioned yesterday, we got a ton of wedding related work done it at my parents house this weekend! And when I say “we” I really mean that everyone else worked and I walked around and gave direction while taking pictures. It’s the way to be. Besides the foam letters, Mama Sundae and I made one of the runners so that we can take it up to Wisconsin for our table mock-up in a few weeks. We were originally planning on making them 14-16″ wide, but when we laid the fabric out it was clear that each runner could only be as wide as the biggest part of the pattern:

About Me: I never dreamed about my wedding as a little girl because I was too busy playing in the mud or pretending to be Martha Stewart–but now that it's here, I'm having a fabulous time DIYing everything in sight! We’re planning a very fun multicultural wedding (I'm Jewish and Mr. Cream Puff is Chinese), filled with as many personal details as I can muster.
When I first started planning this wedding, I knew one thing for sure about our tables–they would have names, not numbers. Originally, I really loved the idea of having each table named after a neighborhood in San Francisco. Then I realized (after being on the knot for like, 3 seconds) that this idea isn’t exactly original. I also really liked the idea of having photos of our pets, or postcards from places we’d visited. When I came up with the idea to do a drawing for each table, I was then forced to figure out how the heck to display them. I went through many different ideas (some of them pictured below), but was really satisfied with myself when I came up with my final idea. That’s how I knew it was the final idea.
When I told my manager at Paper Source what my plans were, she told me I was insane. I guess she thought they’d be a lot of work. I’ll admit, these were one of my more involved projects. But they really weren’t that bad! Probably about 4 or 5 episodes of Law and Order. So without further adieu, here they are (please excuse the laundry basket–I had other things going on, haha):

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Nursing Student

Wedding Date: June 21, 2008
Venue: Imperia Hotel (modern chic hotel)
About Me: I am a passionate designer who loves anything pretty. I heart all paper products (eco-friendly of course). My passion revolves around anything considered glamour; vintage and modern. In my free time, I love reading Martha mags, designing jewelry and making a pit-stop at Starbucks for a chai latte. I'm also a chocoholic at heart and my family drools over my homemade truffles.
Definitely not me!!! This weekend I finally started working on my invitations. To be honest it’s not going very well. You’d think being a designer would help, but it’s simply making this whole process extremely hard. Like I always do when I can’t seem to concentrate on a specific thing… I sidetrack. So instead I started thinking about my table numbers.
Mr. Flamingo had found an interesting site a while back with endless amounts of movie posters from the 20s to now. I thought this was a interesting way to incorporate the whole movie part in our whole vintage glam theme. But I am still indecisive.

We are planning our very vintage wedding in the greatest city in the world, our hometown of Chicago. I am so proud to be a Bee!
I am strangely excited about escort cards. It seems like it could be an inexpensive way to add a little fun and personalized style to your wedding. I have already decided that I am doing something with ferns, and I would show you a great example but InStyle Weddings has a stinky website and none of the photos from the current issue are in there.
In the meantime, if my wedding had gone shabby chic as I had originally planned, I would be all over these cards on boards:

Ah, my placecards. I am soooo happy with my placecards.
Each one of our tables has a theme relating to a favorite memory we share together. We haven’t solidified the actual table names yet, but I have the drawings done for 13 tables (we will probably need a few more). Because I like to do projects that I know I can complete (it bolsters my self-esteem, what can I say?), I decided to make a couple of samples, just to see how they look. The little images on each placecard are cropped versions of the images that will be on the table numbers (I still haven’t figured out a design for said table numbers, but hey–one step at a time).

There were, indeed, LOTS of Lovely Details at the “Lovely Details Wedding Showcase” that I attended earlier this month! I always try to soak in hot new ideas, especially because I don’t exactly have a solid idea what I’m exactly going to do when it comes to reception decor. One AWESOME idea that I did walk away with, courtesy of my florist Huckleberry Karen, and the lovely Lisa of Belissima Vita Weddings, was this great idea for escort cards, which I’m totally stealing!

I don’t know whether I should be considered for an award, or for psychiatric commitment - but I believe I’ve just broken the record for longest distance traveled with a 10 lb, 60 year-old wedding prop:

After everyone’s fantastic suggestions of other places to take our typewriter scene table number pictures, I couldn’t resist the chance to capture a snow shot. Because, um, it doesn’t snow all that much in the desert?

You get, among other things, a thirty minute hike into Sabino Canyon lugging a ten pound typewriter:
