Awesome title, yeah? No? Okay. I tried
Fueled by the quilling high I got from making my Valentines, I decided to get cracking on my table numbers! I mentioned earlier that I wanted to incorporate a Minnesota theme for the table numbers, and while I generally despise “themes” of any sort, I thought it would be a fun way to showcase Mr. Penguin’s hometown at our wedding.
I found these neato old drawn maps of various cities in Minnesota from the Library of Congress’ Zazzle site, so I ordered 20 cities on cards to turn into table numbers. Here’s a few, they are so pretty I hated cutting them out!

For anyone anxiously awaiting the resolution to my mini typewriter placecard holder research, this blog’s for you:
It seems that this little guy is up to the task. Whether or not he’s attractive and/or affordable enough is another question.

Not a “go,” possibly, because it seems I set my heart on the one place card holder out of a million that required a re-design the month before my blessed event. Not a major revamp either, mind you, but the artist’s medium wasn’t cutting it anymore (i.e. pewter = too expensive: best make these puppies in resin from now on).

Really, I blame the slackers who failed to RSVP by the set deadline, thereby preventing me from having an accurate adorable-little-car count by which to base my order. Then I wouldn’t have passed on ordering them just the other day at one of the many, many vendors online who just last week were selling these by the hundreds but now just taunt me with their “backordered” warnings.
I have some fantastic news. I am officially the top authority on miniature typewriters in my social circle. I know, right? Pretty awesome. My friends can now confidently turn to me for all of their miniature typewriter needs. Because I can deliver. Shall I demonstrate?

“Add a memorable touch to your wedding with unique favors that match your theme.”

Of all the fun little touches I’ve seen at the weddings I’ve attended, one of my favorites is personalized table names. I don’t know why I get such a kick out of it, but it’s a sweet, fun opportunity for the bride and groom to get creative and showcase their personality.
To kick this lard in high gear, I told Bee to ban me from Weddingbee if I did not fulfill my duty, so here I am: reporting an abundance of excuses as to why I haven’t been posting.
First off, let me tell you, when I say I’m busy, I mean it no joke. Here is a glimpse into my daily life, and it’s not all of what I do either. I just can’t fit it all there, since my planner is itty bitty.
I carry this baby everywhere. Without it, I feel naked, lost, confused, it’s not a good thing. If you ever see me, ask me if I have it, if not, I’ll freak ballistic. Aside from that, Minna No Tabo is my mini Mr. CB that I carry around. Since I can’t talk Mr. CB’s ear off in person, I fill Tabo up with all that I will eventually talk to him about.
Poor CB. I feel sorry for him sometimes, I talk and talk and talk …

Since our wedding is near my hometown, I wanted to find a fun little way to pay respects to Mr. Penguin’s hometown of Minneapolis. I came across this fabulous artist, Adam Turman and his cool Twin Cities 2008 Calendar, perfect for numbering our tables in a fun way. I love using Calendars for art (or table numbers) because you get 12 prints for a great deal! I got this calendar from Lulu.com for $17.54. I’m always on the lookout for great calendars to cut out and frame… lots of times they are cheaper than buying a single print! For our table numbers, we’ll name them Minneapolis/St. Paul landmarks such as:
(Clockwise from top left)
1. Pillsbury
2. St. Anthony Main
3. Minnesota State Fair
4. Lake Harriet
5. Gold Medal Flour
6. Grain Belt
How are you giving a nod to you or your Fiance’s hometown?
I have to admit something to you ladies at large - Mr. Hummingbird and I are major geeks.
Sure we look all cool and hip on the outside but don’t be fooled by our natty exteriors - on the inside we’re 100 per cent pure fangirl and boy. The thing is, we weren’t always so open about our geeky proclivities. Mr. Hummingbird kept his massive collection of Star Wars Legos tucked away in large Tupperware containers and I kept my insane knowledge of classic Degrassi High to myself. But once we got together and managed to ID one another as followers of the cult of dork, it all came out in the open. We not only admitted what we were to each other, but we shared and exposed one another to different facets of geek culture. On our seventh date, Mr. Hummingbird exposed me to the pop culture phenomenon that is Mystery Science Theatre 3000 (Pod People is still my favourite episode!) and I exposed him to the joy that is Invader Zim.
The final decision on our linens has been made — Green? Pink? Heck, why not both?I went ahead and chose an iridescent crushed satin sorbet tablecloth that looks pink sometimes and green others, depending from which angle one looks at it. I’m not sure if you’ll be able to tell from these pictures, but the first two are meant to show more the pink side of it, while the third picture reflects the green more.
Perhaps it’s just me, but the last few months of wedding planning have definitely been the hardest! Now, don’t get me wrong, I’ve been a good planner. I had lined up all the vendors well in advance and even managed to stay ahead of schedule. But it’s in these last few months (or month for me now) that all the little things are creeping up. The logistical, ooh-don’t-forget-to-do-this, little, pesky details. On top of this, the holidays are creeping up on us (with our wedding sandwiched in between!) and nearly every weekend leading up to the wedding is booked with something. Aaah!
Okay, there really is only one solution for such a stressful time: IKEA. Now Mr. Peppermint might beg to differ because he has a love-hate relationship with the store. Basically, when he walks in he’s in awe. He’s super excited to go through all the rooms and get ideas. About half-way through the store, however, he starts to get restless and the growing crowds and wafting smell of Swedish meatballs only make it worse. My solution? Go on a weeknight before closing.
As someone who loves architecture and travel, when I came across these cool wire building sculptures, I couldn’t help but fall in love with them. They’re a little out of our budget, but I thought I’d share with them with since they could not only make awesome centerpieces, but could be used in lieu of table numbers (I mean why would anyone want to sit at boring old table 7 when they could be sitting at Paris?
)

An assortment of buildings.
What could be better on a rainy Friday than a DIY project!
A few weeks ago I tuned into Martha Stewart’s show and saw Darcy Miller showing off some of her great ideas for weddings. I absolutely fell in love with one of her table settings, which showed up on her blog soon after.

Earlier, I discussed the overall vision/feel we have for the reception, and three things we are looking for: linens, flowers and lighting. Today, I bring you one element- linens.
Here is our inspiration for the tables.

From the Knot.
I got a few questions regarding my escort card table in my last post, so here’s the dirt (or the rice, har har har
). I was waiting for a good picture of it before I posted, so here we go!

I had originally planned on placing my mini buttons on little place cards like Martha did, because well, Martha did.
