Remember how Macs was considering a custom ring? Well, after several email exchanges his ring finally arrived. There was one small problem—the engraving was off centered.

While I LOVE my wedding dress and wouldn’t change a thing, part of me can’t help but gravitate towards showy numbers. Case and point: While waiting for the seamstress to bring out my dress for my second fitting, a little something caught my eye. It was an after party dress by Jenny Packham dubbed the “make your momma faint dress”.
If the hemline wasn’t faint worthy the price certainly was. At $1300 (after a hefty discount) it was about 10 times what I’d consider spending on a party dress I’d probably never wear again.
Finding the right sassy little number has been infinitely harder than findingmyshoes.
I reserved this disco ball of a dress from Rent the Runway but after seeing it on a few women of average height I’m afraid it’ll be too long. Read more…

While Macs and I hoped for an adults-only celebration, it wasn’t in the cards. A few of our nearest and dearest are traveling great lengths (we’re talking internationally) to come celebrate with us. There’s no way we’d expect them to leave their little ones back home, let alone at a hotel with a sitter they’ve never met.
Everyone has assured me their children are well behaved but I’d like to stack the deck in our favor just to be safe. I know the foofers will be a big hit, what toddler doesn’t like throwing things? But I needed something else to keep them occupied up until that point.
Coloring books are quite popular but any old ones simply wouldn’t do. I was going to illustrate my own (yes, I’m that crazy) but that idea was immediately thrown out the window when I found these: Read more…

Let’s be real for a second; weddings are expensive and not just for those hosting it. From plane tickets and hotels, to rental cars and some new duds, guests can end up spending a chunk of change well before they’ve even bought a gift. It’s precisely why I told Macs, my mom and Sassy not to throw me a shower. So many of our friends live far away I’d feel horrible having them make a special trip. I also didn’t want to burden anyone with the planning or the added expense a few months or weeks before the wedding.
As time went by and our wedding date got closer I started to have second thoughts. Am I missing out on the ‘bridal experience’? Would it be something I’d regret? I wished I didn’t vehemently object to a shower but with two months to go it was far too late to say anything.
A few weeks passed and my birthday was just around the corner. Much like this past Christmas, Valentine’s Day and anniversary, I told Macs I didn’t want to do anything given the wedding expenses. He insisted we do something, even if it was just going out for breakfast. So I agreed and on Saturday afternoon we made our way to what I thought was a new place for brunch.
As I walked in I saw a group of people to my right but it didn’t realize who they were until they shouted “Surprise!” I was in shock. Read more…

Or more importantly what are we eating? I’d like to think our guests will be just as excited about the food as we are and with a super yummy menu, boring signs just wouldn’t do.
I wanted consistency throughout all our printed materials so my identification cards use the same pattern and font as our invitations. I tiled the design in illustrator and was able to fit 8 to a page. Each was slightly bigger than a standard business card. Read more…

Sometimes, things don’t go quite as planned. You can adapt and overcome or scurry about arms flailing, with your ramblings made incoherent by sniffles and a deluge of tears. What could possibly make me freak out so bad? Finding out that more than a few guests never received their invitations a mere 2 weeks before our RSVP deadline.
Let’s pretend that I didn’t watch the postal employee hand cancel every single envelope or that I didn’t verify each address using the USPS website prior to addressing them. Our invitations (with an extra 24 cents in postage) should have made it to all our guests, including my grandparents who’ve lived at the same address for the last fifteen years.
There’s no explanation other than some wonderful postal worker thought our invitations were so insanely awesome they just had to keep seven for themselves. Anyways, let me share with you what I ended up doing to remedy the situation.
Note to future brides: Don’t be cheap. Buy more than just 10 extra envelopes. Read more…

If you recall my inspiration board, I really liked the idea of animal illustrations instead of traditional table numbers. I envisioned cute pencil and watercolors of different rabbits sort of like this:
However I couldn’t find enough given the number of tables we’d need. It’s been years since I’ve painted anything, but I busted out some watercolors and gave it a go. My results were, um…less than stellar. It wasn’t quite this bad, but you get the idea: Read more…

We were just about squared away on the groomsmen’s attire except for the ties. While I have a soft spot for paisley, Macs can’t stand it. All the check patterns we found reminded me of Easter, so that left us with stripes.
This first one was pretty close color wise, but skinny ties just look funny to me on really tall men. Men’s Wearhouse had another Calvin Klein but it was an online exclusive and, at $60 a piece, I didn’t want to spend that much on something I couldn’t see in person.

I’d like to think that most of my wedding purchases have been quite methodical, but every once in a while I get a wild hair and throw caution into the wind.
The cost:size ratio of my most recent purchase was a bit absurd but totally worth it in my opinion. Since macaron favors were quickly ruled out I wanted to find another way to include my moniker on our wedding day. Thanks to Mrs. Pain Au Chocolat, I discovered a multitudeofminiatures on Etsy.

My skin is generally clear, but when I’m stressed, which is exponentially more often now, acne likes to rear its ugly head. The last thing I want is a major breakout on our wedding day so it’s important to have it under control. I have fairly sensitive skin and have struggled to find products that work for me. They’re either too gentle and don’t help or they’re too strong and prevent me from using them on a regular basis. Up until a year ago I was caught in a vicious cycle of breakouts followed by sensitivity and peeling. I can finally say I have clear, healthy skin, and the following things have made a world of difference.

In my head, I wanted Mac and the rest of the groomsmen to stand out. Not only are black suits too harsh for the soft and romantic look we’re trying to achieve, but I’m fairly certain it’s what more than a few of our male guests will opt to wear. (We don’t know many brown or navy blue suit kinda people.) A gray suit or tux was the clear winner. What’s not to love?
