But you know what that means—the Macarons’s invitations have been sent! I started these babies eaarrrrly. I didn’t want to procrastinate or get hit with creative’s block and have a mad dash at the end. The good news is that they didn’t take nearly as long as I expected and were completely finished in February. The bad news is that I had to stare at them every day for over five months before I finally mailed them. (OK, so I sent them a few weeks earlier than recommended. I can’t help it—I’m impatient!)

Turns out I had a long walk ahead of me and I wasn’t alone.
Macs: “Where are you headed?”
Me: Maybe I can pretend I didn’t hear him.
Macs: (Raises his voice and says my name again.)
Me: “Oh hey, what are you doing heading this way?”
Macs: “I was thinking about getting a second degree in criminology.”
Me: “Sure you’re headed in the right direction?”
Macs: “Yep, it’s just across the street from the Fine Arts building.”
Me: CRAP. It’ll take me a good 15 minutes to get to class with all this stuff. I can’t talk to him for 15 minutes!
Macs: “Want me to carry anything? It looks heavy.”
Me: “No, it’s cool. It’s not bad at all.” (As I try and speed-walk uphill and not sound out of breath.) Read more…

In the very early stages of planning our wedding, I was all about chandeliers. I liked the contrast of something so formal in a natural setting. While our wedding isn’t as formal as a black-tie affair, it’s not a backyard barbecue either. I thought a chandelier would be unexpected and really set the tone for our guests; besides, how could you not love the thought of pictures under this?

Running away. Yes, the very first time I met Mr. Macarons in person I tried to run away.
You see, he and I first met online, pre-Facebook. I was a part of a small, one-college website started by a friend during freshman year. The boards were an easy way to plan outings, tailgates, and anything else amongst our group of friends. Over time it began to grow and new users would pop up. The majority would only make a few posts (mostly selling things like textbooks or furniture) before disappearing.
Fast-forward two years when Mr. Macarons joined. I didn’t like him at first. Well, I liked him, but I didn’t want to admit it. He made me…angry. He was (is) smart and opinionated, and I found that frustrating. Because I was supposed to be the smart and opinionated one. If I were watching this in a romantic comedy, it would be obvious that these two kids would get together, but at the time it was just annoying.
Annoying. Cute and tall. Annoying. Cute and tall and funny. Annoying. Cute and tall and funny and interesting and suddenly a lot less annoying. But still, he was an online presence. An avatar. A ghost.
Until we were introduced while turning in football tickets. Read more…

While I know I’m supposed to look and feel the prettiest I’ve ever been on our wedding day, it doesn’t mean our moms can’t feel special, too. When it came time for them to start their search, I said it needed to be purple and floor length and that everything else was up to them. Sleeves or strapless, sparkly or simple, it didn’t really matter to me as long as they were happy and comfortable.
Mr. Macs’s mom is quite tall, so finding a long enough dress proved a difficult task. No matter! She has a tailor that’s made dresses for her in the past, so she plans on having one made for the occasion.
Mine picked out her dress awhile ago but wanted to keep it a surprise—not cool, Mom! Apparently I take after her, as she broke down and sent me a picture as soon as it came in. It’s a little too big on top but nothing a little tailoring can’t fix. My mom normally isn’t this camera shy; she just had eye surgery and isn’t allowed to wear makeup yet. I still think she looks great!

I went into my first makeup trial with what I thought was pretty clear inspiration. Neutral eyes that popped, rosy cheeks, and some color on the lips. Day to day I keep my makeup pretty simple.

Was how I responded to my mother’s suggestion of buying a card box.
Um, this is your daughter; you know, the one who was covered head-to-toe in finger paint as a toddler. The one who couldn’t imagine lava flowing out of her Play-Doh volcano, enveloping her dinosaurs, when she could have the REAL thing: Baking soda, vinegar, and red food coloring, duh! Surely she wouldn’t use a card box, certainly not one she didn’t make herself.
I wanted something different. I just didn’t know what. Maybe a train case in one of our colors?

Please excuse the seemingly random title. I assure you it will make sense.
Like other bees, I too sent out a few early invitations to our friends in high places. Less than two weeks later, I received our first piece of mail. I carefully opened the first-class envelope from Disneyland (What the eff, Disney World? I see how it is.) and kept my fingers crossed I wouldn’t have a situation like Mrs. Lioness.
The Good: Mickey and Minnie spelled our names right!
The Bad: They hastily stuffed and sealed the envelope before the Sharpie dried.
The Ugly: The only part that was smudged to hell was the mister’s name.
I was bummed. How was I going to fix this? I can’t frame it the way it is: I’m not marrying Pfmndl!
Then I remembered a trick from my design-school days. Run don’t walk to your nearest art-supply or craft store and buy the following:

I really love Florida weather. To me, there’s nothing better than being able to wear flip flops all year round. Summers are hot and humid (just how I like ‘em) and just about when you’ve had enough, it starts to cool off. While the temperature can start to drop in September, we generally don’t hit the low 70s till November. A floor-length dress was out of the question. I want the ladies to be comfortable and feel beautiful; even if the summer sun doesn’t cut us some slack. A gray, short, and flowy chiffon number seemed to fit the bill.

After being severely let down, the mister and I were ready to forget about caterers and see if one of our favorite local restaurants would be willing to take on the task. They were excited about the idea, but didn’t have the capacity to make the amount of food we’d need, let alone transport it to our venue.

Before wedding blogs took over my free time, I was a daily reader of Design*Sponge. It was there, three years ago, prior to engagement and even marriage talks, that I found our cake-topper inspiration:
