About Me: Our original idea of running off to get married quickly turned into an event with 100+ guests once other people got involved and I, too, got swept away in the lovely madness that is wedding planning. Mr. Petunia and I are obsessed with all things World of Warcraft, Monopoly, and Nintendo, so we’re planning on including some fun “game-y” details into our wedding.
These days, with the bridal shower just behind us and less than 2 months to our wedding, gifts are finding their way to our home in all sorts of ways. They found their way to the shower in the most traditional of ways: people brought them, and since I opened them there as part of the festivities, I knew who brought what and why (no question that something was a bridal shower gift).

So writing the thank you note for my lovely glass domed cake plate will be - well, a piece of cake. (By the way, I loved Mrs. Kiwi’s recent post about becoming a grown up! I have to admit that I’m starting to feel like one receiving these gifts. I never thought my cakes/cupcakes needed a glass home before, but now I wonder how I ever left them homeless without it, and walking out of that shower knowing I was the proud owner of things like these did in fact make me feel, for whatever reasons, like more of an adult…).

I (finally) ordered our thank you cards! Mr. Eggplant and I were married on October 20th, so it looks like I just may make the two-month etiquette deadline for sending out thank you cards (that is, if I can get myself to sit down and pound them out this week
).

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Web Producer
Engagement Date: October 21, 2006

Blogging Since: July 2, 2007
Venue: historic estate overlooking the heart of Palm Springs
About Me: I am a Southern California native who enjoys cooking, writing, travel and all things in the arts. Mr. Peppermint and I met in college and he proposed on our four year anniversary in one of our most special places, Joshua Tree National Park. We're having a destination wedding in Palms Springs that will incorporate tradition as well as reflect our personalities!
I have a confession to make: I had my most bridezilla moment (at least to date… knock on wood!). I suppose it’s good to have gotten it out of the way, but nonetheless, there was a bit of a debacle last weekend…
It all started out very innocently. Mr. Peppermint and I were gocco-ing our Thank You cards. We agreed we wanted to get that out of the way so we’d be ready to fill them out in time. We had talked about a design and settled on what we wanted. Since Palm Springs (and the surrounding areas) is so special to us and he proposed in Joshua Tree National Park, we decided that we’d like a simple drawing of a Joshua Tree on the front. Inside we planned on text that would read “Thank You” in the top left, and “Mr. & Mrs. Peppermint” in the bottom right. Easy. We spent Friday night and Saturday morning making them and were really happy with the results.
Here is our view of Joshua Tree National Forrest:

Mrs. Bell Pepper, Philadelphia

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Resident Physician
Engagement Date: May 30, 2006
Wedding Date: June 2007
Venue: Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts
About Me: I love whimsical details and design, everything that *sparkles*, sipping on hazelnut lattes, pugs, shopping for antiques and second-hand goods, scenic photography, delicate flowers, and checking out new restaurants in the city with my fianc??. We are planning our wedding at a unique city venue for about 75 close family members and friends. I have a lot of DIY ideas and I like to blog about ways to save money on your wedding.

We still have a few thank you cards to send out to relatives who live overseas and couldn’t make it to our wedding. Rather than send them a few 4 x 6 photos from our wedding, I wanted to create a keepsake holiday card that would highlight some of our favorite photos.

For the past few days I’ve been working on our thank you cards. I really wanted to hand write regular cards since no one really seems to do that anymore, but the photo card idea is so convenient! Plus you save stamp money by using post card postage instead of regular postage. I asked our photographer to send me 3 hi-resolution digital images from our wedding and threw it onto photoshop to play around with.
Here’s what I came up with:

Mrs. Firefly, New York
Age and Occupation in 06: 31, Attorney
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Finance
Engagement Date: April 11, 2004
Wedding Date: June, 2006
Venue: Battery Gardens
About Me: I was born in the city of Donetsk in the former Soviet Union (now the Ukraine) and grew up in Brooklyn. Many of my parent's friends are from Russia and the Ukraine as well. We want all of our guests to have a great time and hit the dance floor so we've hired a band that can play both Russian and American music; not to mention a mean rendition of the Gypsy Kings and chair-raising hora!
Yesterday I received a card from a very dear friend thanking me for the lovely lasagna pan I got her for her shower. One minor problem … the gift wasn’t from me!
Let me start from the beginning. My friend is getting married in December. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to attend her wedding shower in Washington, DC last month. It was an “Around the House” shower, so we were asked to bring a gift for the kitchen or entertaining around the house, and to also bring a favorite recipe (great idea!).
If I was better organized, I would have sent a gift directly to her bridesmaid hosting the shower, but, alas, by the time I made it to the Macy’s website, I’d have to overnight the present, which was silly. Also, my friend and her fiance will be leaving the country after getting married, so I didn’t think it made sense for her to get too many pots and pans! I did email my Turkey Chili recipe in time and last week (a little late!) sent her a Victoria’s Secret gift card (for …. um … entertaining around the house).
What to do now? Should I email her? What do I say?
Mrs. Snow Pea, New York
Age and Occupation: 26, Architectural Engineer and student
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Web Designer
Engagement Date: July 4, 2005
Wedding Date: August 18, 2007
About Me: I am a DIY gal. From cooking, home improvements to wedding. Mr. Snow Pea and I met in college, and since then we've been like peas and carrots! Love cooking, traveling, and fishing.
Since I used photos of our wedding ceremony for our Thank You notes, I reserved the photos of the reception for the Christmas cards. Mr. Snow Pea’s family in particular would really appreciate a photo of me in my qipao because it’s new to them.
Since the cards I made were 4.25X5.5, I only needed a small photo of us to place on the card.
- Wallets (4) were $1.79/sheet. Approximately 45cents per tiny photo. For 50 photos, that’s $22. For what I needed to do, that was too expensive in my opinion. Also, the white border on wallets would have been a trimming nightmare!

Engagement Date: April 15, 2006
Wedding Date: October 13, 2007
Blogging Since: June 19, 2007
Venue: Organic farm an hour from San Francisco
About Me: I live for anthropologie, design blogs, sweets, japanese zakka, and vintage goods. We just bought our first home together and live with our two puppies and cat - it's a strange mixture of vintage, high-tech (we have 7 computers and 21 video game systems in all), and a whole lot of fur. Our wedding tries to embody the Japanese idea of "slow life", which is truly taking the time to enjoy food, company, and your environment!
This is my excuse for being vacant, I’m going to claim that my laziness and complete lack of posting is due to Mono*. It’s not because I’m in the post wedding lull. It’s not at all a depression based on having very few photos of the event. It’s because I’m too tired to do anything other than drag my slug-like body down the hall to pour myself a bowl of cocoa puffs…
I had PTWS (just like Mr. Monkey’s description) and had Mr. GB go into the garage and paint our placeholder dining room table’s legs. I say placeholder because we do intend to get something nice, but until we can, I couldn’t look at the plain legs and be satisifed… well, I had PTWS. Ask me now and I’ll sniff dirty socks and think “oh.. not so bad… I can wear these if only I can avoid laundry one more day…”

…to everyone who voted. It seems #3 was the most popular, but #1 and #2 as some of you said were nice to have too. I ordered all 3 using Shutterfly to test out them out and they all look pretty neat!
