A Cozy Christmas Wedding: Yoga Time

March 4th, 2011 @ 2:20 pm by Mrs. Knitting

Mr. Knitting and I both believe that our choice to have a group yoga class the night before our wedding in place of a rehearsal dinner was definitely one of our very best wedding decisions. It was an absolutely incredible experience and I honestly can not say enough good things about it.

The class was held at 889 Yonge, our favourite yoga studio. I’ve written about yoga in the past, but in the last few months yoga has become even more important and special to Mr. Knitting and myself. We go at least four times a week and I really can’t say enough positive things about the studio. The space is fantastic, the yoga teachers are incredible, the selection of classes is outstanding, the staff could not be kinder, and they even provide all kinds of awesome extras like delicious herbal teas! We both absolutely love this place and it really made sense to include it in our wedding festivities.

We had spent the day doing a whole bunch of errands, but we had a bit of time together before our class began, and decided to go get some food. After much deliberation we settled on Veda, which serves delicious, healthy, and quick Indian food.

Mr. Knitting went for the butter chicken and I got some palak paneer:

Goals

February 18th, 2011 @ 12:58 pm by Mrs. Knitting

I’ve been reading a lot about goal setting recently (the Lululemon blog is particularly helpful if any of you are interested!), so I thought I would write about goal setting and our wedding today. I’m not a crazy goal setter or anything but I had a few goals in mind for myself for our wedding. Here they are:

  1. Don’t freak out
  2. Eat food
  3. Send excellent thank you notes in a timely manner

Here’s how I did:

Don’t Freak Out

Despite my worries, I am proud to say I didn’t freak out about anything on my wedding day. There were definitely moments of stress and I wouldn’t go so far to say I was completely zen, but overall I think I did pretty good.

Not quite me, but close enough:

A Cozy Christmas Honeymoon: The Fun

February 9th, 2011 @ 2:54 pm by Mrs. Knitting

While we spent a pretty big chunk of our honeymoon eating, we did do a few other things!

We went skating by the river:

A Cozy Christmas Honeymoon: The Fun : wedding honeymoon toronto 2010 12

This was really great because there was a 2km skating path right next to the lake so it was really pretty and scenic. It was also really nice to not have to go around in circles over and over. I was a bit concerned about how I would do on skates, but was pleasantly surprised with my abilities (i.e. I didn’t fall).

We also went snowshoeing:

A Cozy Christmas Honeymoon: The Food

February 4th, 2011 @ 6:04 pm by Mrs. Knitting

One of the reasons we chose Hovey Manor for our honeymoon was because of the incredible food. They are very well known for their local and regional gourmet cuisine and we were so excited, since we’ve pretty much never eaten a meal that could accurately be termed gourmet. We like our meals out to cost less than $15 each, please.

Each day began with their “full country breakfast.” This included a buffet of things like amazing Quebecois cheese, croissants, homemade granola, freshly squeezed juice, smoothies, muffins…etc.

A Cozy Christmas Honeymoon

February 1st, 2011 @ 9:35 am by Mrs. Knitting

I loved our honeymoon. A lot. More than I expected to actually. Normally, my ideal vacation is to go somewhere in Europe that I have meticulously read about in advance and spend my days wandering the streets…blah blah blah. However, for our honeymoon Mr. Knitting and I decided we should go a much more relaxed route and I have to say I’m so happy we did.

Our honeymoon began with a very luxurious chauffeured drive to Montreal. Here’s a look at us luxuriating:

A Bee’s Life: Knitting Edition

January 27th, 2011 @ 2:18 pm by Mrs. Knitting

How I Found Weddingbee

I actually don’t really remember. Shortly after we got engaged I became a little obsessed with wedding blogs and I think I found Weddingbee from a link from another blog (maybe Martha?). I read it for a bit, but I lost interest around the holidays (what’s wrong with me?). However, in January 2010 I became a WB fanatic and pretty much read every single post every day.

My Application

I didn’t know anything about blogging when I decided I wanted to apply, but I figured that was no reason to stop me! I’m definitely one of the bees who only started a wedding blog so that I could be a bee. I also didn’t tell anyone I was applying for Weddingbee, except for Mr. Knitting.

I’m really glad that I didn’t know that some bees put together really fancy high tech applications because mine was definitely a very straightforward 7 page Word document without a single colour, illustration, or picture to be found. My blog had lots of pictures, but my application was very boring looking. I sent my application in a week before I technically should of (after reading that Mrs. Cupcake sent hers in way before!). About 4 weeks later, while I was in Amsterdam on an amazing trip with a friend, I got an email from Mrs. Penguin offering me a place as a bee. I was so excited, but also a bit sad that I would have to wait a whole month until I got back to Canada before actually starting to blog!

Frolicking in Siena as a brand new bee:

Reviving a Family Tradition

January 19th, 2011 @ 6:51 pm by Mrs. Knitting

I’ve written before about my mom’s (and consequently my family’s) obsession with all things Indian. One of the coolest ways this obsession has manifested is that for 20 years my parents hosted an Indian feast at our house on Christmas Eve for a group of our family and friends.

Sadly, about 5 years ago, my parents decided that the feast was too much work to continue and they stopped hosting it and we instead began spending Christmas Eve at Indian restaurants with immediate family only. While I’m perfectly happy with this arrangement, I was beyond thrilled when I received an invitation to a Christmas Indian feast held in our honour.

That’s right: my sister/MOH decided to bring back our old tradition as a pre-wedding celebration for Mr. Knitting and myself. Think wedding shower, minus pretty much everything that says shower. It was perfect.

Here’s the fam:

Our Worst Wedding Gift

Our Worst Wedding Gift : wedding gift ideas toronto Ft Wrap

I know, I know, you’re all thinking I’m terribly rude and ungrateful for writing a post with this title, but read on, and I think you’ll understand why I feel comfortable publicly calling this our worst wedding gift.

Mr. Knitting’s dad added his friend Edward to his portion of our guest list. Even though our invitations said 5PM, Edward and his random male friend arrived at around 5:40PM  and awkwardly stood in the hallway for our entire ceremony. Kind of annoying and rude, but not the end of the world.

Then during our cocktail hour he had between 4 and 6 drinks before the bartenders told him nicely that he would have to come back later. Edward did not like this and was very rude to the (extremely nice) bartenders.

Like many brides before me, I’m still a bit in shock that this day is finally here, after planning for it for so long. We’ve spent the last week in a whirlwind of wedding activities concluding with a truly amazing yoga class last night with so many of our favourite people.

Here’s us ready for yoga last night:

'Twas the Morning of the Knitting Wedding... : wedding emotional toronto 028

There are definitely a lot of emotions surrounding this week and this wedding, but what I feel most is grateful.

I am grateful to have had access to such a wonderful community of brides on this site. Your feedback, suggestions, and kind words have meant so much to me and without all of you this wedding would not be half as nice (or detailed!). I am deeply appreciative and feel honoured to be part of this community.

What to Read?

December 16th, 2010 @ 7:08 pm by Mrs. Knitting

I’ve been so focused on our wedding that I kind of forgot about our honeymoon. Okay, I didn’t actually forget, I just didn’t really think about the fact that soon the wedding will be over and I will get to be on my honeymoon with my new husband.

As you might recall from this post we’re having a pretty relaxed cozy Christmasy honeymoon. I don’t really need to do much of anything to prepare for it, but one thing I did want to do is put together a reading list. While we plan on doing lots of active things like snowshoeing and skating, I suspect we’ll also have lots of cozy reading by the fire moments and I’d like to make sure I have lots of good things to read.

Here’s a few books I’m considering at the moment:

About Mrs. Knitting

I know from reading an excessive amount of wedding blogs that what guests wear to a wedding can be a sensitive issue. Wearing white is a huge no-no, tight and revealing clothes that draw attention seem to be problematic as well. I’ve even heard that wearing the same colour as the bridesmaids isn’t the best idea.

I have to say, I really do not care what guests wear to our wedding. From my understanding, brides are often concerned about what others are wearing because they don’t want attention to be drawn away from them or, in the case of the white dress, they don’t want others to be mistaken for the bride. Here’s the thing: I’m the bride, almost everyone at our wedding is very familiar with what I look like, and if not, they’ll probably clue in during my walk down the aisle. No matter what, it’s pretty hard to take the attention away from a bride.

I also don’t particularly mind if people’s attention is drawn away from me every so often.

Reason #457 Why Mr. Knitting is Awesome

December 10th, 2010 @ 1:39 pm by Mrs. Knitting

We’re getting married next Saturday. Mr. Knitting has to write an exam next Wednesday. Yay, we’re so good at planning. It’s not an easy exam, either. It’s in something complicated like machine learning. At the moment he’s pretty stressed and is studying all the time. He even missed yoga last night (that’s a big deal for him). Still, despite all this stress, and the fact that he’s not too concerned with wedding details, he finds time to help me make things like our programs, table numbers, family photo labels…etc. Tonight when he went back to his lab to study after dinner, he even asked if I needed him to do anything tonight.
