My secret is pretty embarrassing, but secrets are only fun if they’re juicy, so here it goes. I love Sweet Valley books, particularly Sweet Valley High and Sweet Valley University. I think I read my first Sweet Valley book when I was in first or second grade and I was hooked. I started with Sweet Valley Kids, and then as I got older I moved on to Sweet Valley Twins, Sweet Valley High, and Sweet Valley University.

As you might recall, I have an amazing boss, JB. However, what she did for Mr. K and me last week goes way beyond amazing. Very sadly JB’s father passed away last week and she decided that despite her exhaustion and grief she would still throw the cocktail party she had been planning in our honour the very next day. To say that I was touched is a huge understatement.
The party was really wonderful. JB hosted it in her gorgeous home that is decorated to perfection and full of art. I may or may not be very jealous of her home. She made it even more party ready by filling the ceiling with white and silver balloons and having lots of candlelight (which I heart big time).

Growing up, the month the December was spent sitting in our living room eating clementines, watching our Christmas tree lights flicker, while listening to Raffi’s Christmas Album.
I’m not sure how old I was when my parents bought this record (that’s right, this was pre-CDs) but it may have been around the time I was born. My sisters and I loved this album and used to dance around the living room to it when we were toddlers. As we got older, the dancing lessened (a bit!), and the record became a CD version, but we still loved this CD. This album really is Christmas for me. Read more…

I used to be one those people that thought weddings were ridiculous overpriced affairs that were a big waste of money (I know you’ve come across a few in your planning adventures). I didn’t have anything against weddings or marriage, I just thought that is was silly to spend a lot of money on something like that. My dad and I were shocked at the idea that anyone could spend something like $20,000 (or more!) on a wedding. Didn’t these people have better things to do with their money? How did they possibly find $20,000 worth of stuff to spend money on? I wasn’t super militant about this, and certainly didn’t spend much time thinking about it, but when I did, this is what I thought.
After being with Mr. Knitting for a few years, I began on occasion to think about what I would want in a wedding. In my mind, a city hall ceremony followed by a nice dinner for a few people sounded great. Our wedding could be a simple private ceremony that would be focused on us. Since my dad often encouraged elopement and my mom never mentioned anything to do with weddings, there was no family pressure to do anything differently.

A few days ago I got to have one of those lovely “yay, we’re getting married” moments! During lunchtime the other day, Mr. Knitting and I ducked out of work and headed to the Faculty Club for our tasting and to have a look at their Christmas decorations. The Faculty Club gets all decorated every year, which means we barely have to do anything!

High school wasn’t too long ago for me, but in some ways it feels like it was because my life is so different now than it was then. From the ages of 10 - 17 I was a student at the National Ballet School training for a career as a professional ballet dancer.

Since my brain is a bit obsessed with wedding details at the moment, I’ve recently been spending some time thinking about our first kiss. I suspect this is something most people don’t actually plan (or, um, make their fiances rehearse—I may or may not be kidding), but come on, I don’t want us to have an awkward first kiss.

As you might remember, instead of a wedding cake we’re having a dessert table with desserts baked by some of our friends and family. This is one project I have delegated to my baby sis, so I haven’t spent much time thinking or worrying about this. We bought some decorations for the table last night, and I’m so excited to see what she comes up with. I have also contributed to her cupcake making by purchasing these adorable cupcake wrappers:

As you might recall, my plan was to let my MOH, BMs, and grown-up FGs pick whatever dresses they wanted with the guidelines that it be pink, grey, or burgundy. For me, it was really important to let them wear dresses that they genuinely like and at price points that they are comfortable with. They now all offically have their dresses, and I couldn’t be happier with them.

I’m in a bit of a mood today. Consider yourself warned!
Mr. Knitting and I were chatting with a new acquaintance the other day and, when discovering we were engaged, she inquired as to how long we’d been dating. When we replied six and a half years, she replied, “Yeah, I guess that’s long enough.” I had to hold myself back from saying, “Thank you for your approval,” in a snide tone.
To be fair, the woman making the comment didn’t mean it rudely. I think she was just trying to make small talk. However, this exchange got me thinking. I just don’t have patience for comments that imply there’s a right or wrong way to go about relationships and marriage.

My wedding is in just over a month and I currently have really mixed feelings about it. My number one feeling is that I’m so excited to be marrying my favourite person and to be able to get to go around making references to “my husband.” However, that’s kind of boring to talk about, since I’m sure you all feel the same way too, so I’m moving on to my other feelings.
My next feeling is that I’d like it to be our wedding day already. I’ve been planning this wedding for over a year and I’m looking forward to just getting to enjoy the day. I’m actually a bit surprised that I got to this point because I’ve had such a great time planning. We’ve definitely had some stresses, like being told no one will have fun at our wedding because it’s during Advent and no one is allowed to have fun during Advent (yeah, we’d never hear that before either), but overall, it’s been a fun process. Now I’m ready for it to be the week before our wedding so I can just enjoy all the fun of that final week and, obviously, the actual wedding day already.
On the other hand, I’m freaking out (in a very minor way) that we only have one month left. Read more…

I’ve been sick with the flu for the last week, which has sucked a lot. I’ve been pretty much incapable of doing anything including work, wedding stuff, applying for grad school, or finding a new job. It hasn’t been the best week. Luckily I was hugely cheered up when I opened my mail box yesterday and found and envelope from my sister/MOH. I opened it up and found this:
