MTV has a new show, Engaged & Underage. Now, I don’t usually watch MTV, but I think I may have to watch this show for an episode or two, just to see what it’s all about.
Engaged & Underage
Series premieres 1/22/07 at 9:30pm. Airs Mondays at 9:30pm. Ends 3/12/07. (30 min.)
Engaged & Underage is a half-hour verite documentary series. In each episode, we follow a young couple, between the ages of 18 and 21, during the final weeks of their engagement, leading up to a wedding (which may or may not be called off). In addition to showing all the drama, tension, and humor inherent in the days before a big event, Engaged & Underage also portrays a young couple as they take their first steps towards adulthood, and begin to define themselves as people outside the confines of their parents and home life, young people who feel they are ready to start homes and families of their own.
This show really brings to light a controversial question: Can you be too young to get married?
My friend Judith over at Reel Invitations does editing for The Martha Stewart Show, so she let me know that tomorrow’s show will feature a fashion show with Monique Lhuillier, event designer Preston Bailey and Darcy Miller - Senior VP and Editorial Director of Martha Stewart Weddings.
You can catch the show on NBC @ 10:00 am. If you miss it, video will be available on the Martha Stewart website by 6 pm the next day.

We should have been covering this from the beginning, but alas now we’re going to have to do a recap.
The Today Show is sponsoring their 7th annual Today Show Throws a Wedding series, where viewers vote on every aspect of a televised wedding for one couple. This year’s winners are Molly and Jason from Playa Del Rey California.

Polls for the wedding dress, groomswear, bridesmaids dress, and wedding cake have been held so far. See if you can pick which ones are the winning choices - we’ll tell you what they are at the end of the post.

So yesterday was Martha Stewart and it was, how do you say, underwhelming. Joy Behar was the guest and she was funny, but the project she and Martha did together (papier mÆ’¢chÆ’©) was kind of lame, and not very Martha-y (i.e. entirely unattractive, uncharming result).
The other segment, with an “American Cook” was bo-ring. The interaction/chemistry/banter between Martha and the guest was nil. And, similar to the craft project, the recipe they made also lacked in presentation (a “Huguenot torte”).
But my real peeve? The complete lack of audience giveaways. I’m not asking for a handknit poncho here, but Martha is a freaking multinational conglomerate unto herself. And yet the audience couldn’t get a freaking bone? A Martha Stewart Everyday handtowel from Kmart?

Based on this email, I think it was safe to assume that the Martha taping I attended with Miss Beetle on Tuesday was going to be about weddings. The taping we attended was after all the first Martha Live episode, as mentioned specifically in the email. But then I looked back at Miss Beetle’s emails to me (she signed up for the tix), and she did say “I don’t think this is the bride show…”
So if you attended a taping expecting a wedding show and were disappointed, I apologize… I thought the same thing too.
The only wedding related part of the show was when the woman sitting in front of me asked Martha a question about how to cut back on wedding budgets - hehe I was on tv!
But as much as I love Martha, to tell you the truth the show left a lot to be desired.
It was however, the nicest television set I have ever been on.

The prep kitchen.

Here’s the blow by blow of me going to Martha!

1:25: One of my bridesmaids and I arrived, drenched in sweat (from running since neither of us are ever on time), hoping they hadn’t given our tickets away.
1:40: We’re through the doors, tickets in hand, excited!
1:41: We’ve already found the free Sarabeth’s cookies and are tossing a few back.
1:43: I fill out one of those little forms with questions for Martha and put one about wedding flowers down.
1:45: My bridesmaid and I notice that the general demographic is much much older than us… guess most people are at work at this time on a Wednesday!
1:46: We start to fantasize about all of the good things Martha might give away.
At some point I lose track of time and we’re off to be seated. Much to our surpise, we’re in the second row. I can’t for the life of me figure out why we got put there, but we didn’t complain… except that we soon realized that all the goodies they threw into the audience were only for the people behind us. Is it greedy to want both? Nah.
OK, truth told the cake below has nothing to do with Martha Stewart, except that I tried to channel her when I made it (it’s lemon-coconut, if you’re curious).

I’m guessing my cake wouldn’t quite be up to the real Martha’s standards, but that can’t stop me from…
GOING TO HER SHOW NEXT WEEK!
Woo-hoo. Like Miss Daisy I am very excited. I just wanted to send an extra thanks to Mrs. Bee for spreading the word on this. THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
And this may be one of the more approriate times I am biting Martha’s catchphrase, since this time I use it to refer *to* Martha Stewart, whom I am going to see at her TV show!!
It gives Mr. Daisy pause from time to time, when he sees that I have DVR’d a Martha or an Ellen episode. But, really, the whole “working” gig precludes me from watching some of the awesomest TV out there (at least during the 2.5 days per weeks that I do actually work…)
Anyway, here is what I received in my mailbox:

The Audience Services Department at “The Martha Show”
Ashton Kutcher is producing a new reality tv show based on the hit movie Wedding Crashers, where actors will crash real weddings to amuse and confuse guests.
If Ashton crashed my wedding, I’d be absolutely livid! I didn’t think it was cool when Oprah crashed several weddings to collect footage for a show she was doing either. Just because you’re a celebrity doesn’t mean that you’re welcome everywhere - especially on a day as important as someone’s wedding day.
How would you feel if Oprah crashed your wedding? How would you feel if your friends and family were in on having Ashton Kutcher crash your wedding?
I can’t keep up with all the new wedding tv shows on the air now! If you just can’t get enough check these out:
You can also find wedding specials on the Food Network, VH1, abc, and Lifetime. Are there any other shows we’re missing? What are your favorite wedding shows?
