What’s a wedding without dancing? We had a lot of it.

There was an anniversary dance to give away the bouquet.

When dinner was over, it was cake cutting time. But first, some close ups of the gorgeous cakes my mom made for us.

We had chocolate and white cake with lemon and raspberry filling. It was so delicious!

While everyone was enjoying their dinner, my father-in-law started the toasts.

Of course he had some nice things to say about his son.

After the cocktail hour ended, it was time for dinner and our first dance. Here’s what we saw when we walked into the dining room.

With 325 guests at our wedding, we knew it would be hard to talk to everyone that was there. For us, it was important to be there at the start of the cocktail hour so we’d have extra time to visit with our guests. I’m so glad we did it this way rather than being fashionably late, because we actually got to spend time chatting with family and friends!
When we walked into the reception for the cocktail hour, we were greeted with this pretty table.

When they walked in the room, they saw our version of a guest book. We made a wishing tree and asked guests to write wishes for us on tags, and then hang them on the tree.

After taking our formal portraits, it was time for the fun ones. We headed out to the church gardens first.

Portraits. Everyone’s favorite part of the wedding right? Not so much. But it’s nice to have pictures with family, as they’re kind of rare around these parts.
First up, half of my mom’s side.

After the processional, mass began. We had a full Catholic mass on our wedding day. I know some people feel like a full mass is too long for their guests to sit, and I understand that. But to us, the ceremony was the most important part of the wedding, and we didn’t think an hour was too long to sit when we were vowing to spend the rest of our lives together.

I was SO nervous during our ceremony. I had butterflies all morning, but it really got out of control when I got to the front of the church. It had nothing to do with being nervous to get married, I knew with all of my heart that I wanted to marry the man standing next to me.

At 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 5th, 2009, our wedding had begun. My grandma and grandpa started off the processional while an arrangement of Canon in D was playing on the piano.

When we were finished with hair and makeup, it was time to head to the church to get dressed.

My dress was ready and waiting for me when I arrived, looking pretty.

Wow, has it really been a year since my last wedding recap post? So much has changed since then! I promise the rest of the recaps won’t be so sporadic.
Last time I posted about the girls getting ready, so naturally this post is all about the guys.
My soon-to-be husband and his groomsmen were busy getting dapper at the best man’s house while we were at the salon.

I could not find olive green ties anywhere for our wedding, so a family friend made the groomsmen’s ties for us! They looked great!

Before I go into the details of the morning of the wedding, I must share one last detail about the night before. After our rehearsal dinner was over, we had gone to our friend’s bar for a bit to visit with friends who were just getting into town. While we were there I noticed that my nails were destroyed (the manicure I had earlier in the day was not the greatest) so I decided to fix it before I went to bed. My sister (and MOH) and I stopped at the store on our way to the hotel (keep in mind this is after midnight and Walmart was the only store open) and bought some nail polish. When we got back to the hotel, I sat down on the bed and immediately painted my nails while we were chatting. The next thing I knew, it was light outside, and both of us were sleeping while sitting up on top of the covers. I had a bit of a freak out when I realized we had fallen asleep… I was afraid I was going to be late for my own wedding day! Thankfully it was only about 5 AM and I still had a little while left to sleep… under the covers and laying down this time!
When I woke up (for the second time) we gathered our stuff and headed for the salon. Leah went right to work on my hair since we’d already had a trial.

The part of our rehearsal dinner that I enjoyed the most had to be giving gifts to our bridal party. I love coming up with creative gifts for people and we had put a lot of thought into what we were giving all of our nearest and dearest.
First up, the girls! I put together gift bags for them with things they could use on the day of the wedding, but I wanted to make sure they were useful after the wedding as well.

Remember when I used to blog here? It’s been awhile. But our 1 year anniversary is coming up on September 5th and I’m determined to finish my recaps before then. I’m getting ahead of myself though, because in order to finish them… I need to actually start them. So I’m going to skip through the madness that happened the week before the wedding and start at the beginning of the wedding weekend… the rehearsal.
I don’t have any pictures of the actual rehearsal, which I think is actually a good thing. Our rehearsal didn’t exactly go smoothly. Lots of people and even more confusion made me a very stressed bride-to-be, and our priest was even more stressed than I was. Let’s just say I was more nervous about the wedding after the rehearsal than I was going into it. In the end we got everything straightened out for the most part and could move on to the more exciting part… dinner!
Our rehearsal dinner took place at my future in-laws’ house. The weather was beautiful and all of the tables were set up outside overlooking the lake.
