I’m super artsy at heart - I run an indie craft site, I grew up shooting and developing my own film, doing jazz and ballet, and the whole gamut of art classes. I’ve been called a Jane of all Trades… but I was also told many years ago not to make my passion my career because it’d suck the fun out of it. Hence my choice of day job. We live in Seattle but are having our wedding in Canada to be fair to all our family and friends.
Mr. Milkshake’s family threw us a fabulous pre-wedding Chinese banquet with a fantastically plated 10 course meal at Kirin in Richmond, BC. Mr. Milkshake’s mom had gifted me the cutest cheongsam I’ve ever seen, with two lovebirds, which, as you’ll notice, is not red (shame on me!).

I’m off to gargle some apple cider vingegar, ya’ll.

Trying to plan a wedding in a new city, not to mention a new country, is tough, but the fact that we can get legally married here more than makes up for it! The wedding will be an opportunity for most of our family and friends to see our new city for the first time so it will be both a wedding and a reunion. Besides my future wife, I am also madly in love with a good bargain, Swedish pastries, Tivo, and my two dogs and calico cat (in no particular order).
We finally made it! It’s time for the last of the Gingerbread wedding recap posts.
Mrs. GB 2.0 had planned to do an official first dance. Well, a few days before the wedding we both said, “You know what’s really stressing me out? The first dance!” So we decided to scrap it. Why do something we weren’t comfortable with? You know what, no one missed it (except for Miss Sweet Tea, but that’s just because she read myposts about planning to do a first dance in the first place).
Now just because we didn’t have a first dance, didn’t mean that we didn’t have dancing!

Honestly, I did enjoy my shower for the most part. It was lovely to see everyone in one place (and wearing pink!), and in such high spirits. However, I was really, really, REALLY uncomfortable being the centre of attention for such a sustained length of time. Having everyone looking at me (and laughing when I spilled food on my dress) was such an awkward feeling—I wanted to hide, but where do you hide when all eyes are on you? Read more…

Mr. Shortcake and I aren’t the most regular of folks. In any given moment, either one or both of us will be making faces, speaking in cartoon voices, and generally being rather ridiculous. I’m particularly prone to breaking out into spontaneous song and dance routines in public. We can’t help it - we’re just silly people! Our wedding, as elegant and beautiful as some parts of it may be, is definitely going to reflect that quirky aspect of our relationship. Our cake topper isn’t the most chic and minimalist one out there. Our first dance routine (a surprise!) is definitely over-the-top something (remember, it’s a surprise! No adjectives allowed!). Our centerpieces (which I may or may not get a chance to blog about) are definitely whimsical. Read more…

Mr. Shortcake works out everyday, lifting heavier weights than me, all in pursuit of a Schwarzenegger-esque bod. However, as muscle-ripply as this makes him, it also makes it very difficult for him to find clothes that fit him. It also made shopping for a tuxedo that much harder! If your groom is in such a predicament as well, check out this uber-helpful guide I stumbled across at Cocktails & Details!
If your groom has a different-than-average body shape, how is he finding ways to dress himself for the wedding?

I know that most of you brides to be are looking for your perfect wedding dress, but some brides, like my own Mrs. GB 2.0, wanted an attractive suit for her wedding day. She found her suit at the Benetton Outlet.
I just came across this lovely Helmut Lang suit on Rue La La. (Rue La La is a members only sale site, similar to Gilt Group, though maybe a little less spendy.)
Original Price: $530. Rue La La Price: $185 Read more…

(Sister Shortcake and friend started baking cupcakes at midnight)
Because we had the bridal shower the next day, we had to leave my engagement party early. My mother, Sister Shortcake, a dear friend, and I stayed up until four in the morning setting up all of our decorations and preparing food for the next day.
Good thing too, because the next morning, guests started arriving at 10 AM, instead of at noon as the invitation had stated! Read more…
