I am the happiest bride-to-bee - I finally found the 8mm videographer that I wanted oh-so much! My endless search to find a local 8mm videographer did not work out; I’ve checked every single company and no one offered this service. But I finally signed the contact yesterday, and the awesome Wes Jones of FilmJones is coming to Montreal just for me… I feel so special!
As quickly as my relationship ended with our previous videographer, a new one started with our new awesome vendors. Rebound? No way, it’s a new and refreshing relationship …
As soon as I found out the news…. I quickly hopped onto Plan B and started looking into other vendors and made contacts fast to see who would fit in our budget, who might be available on our wedding (note: I also called those that were previously booked; you just never know), and made appointments.
After all that hoopla, I found a referral by a friend who gave me her friend’s business card early in our planning process. I contacted them and bam, Adrian emailed/called me with the quickness. Within the week, we had already made an appointment, discussed all the major/minor details, he addressed all our concerns and worked with us to customize a package that allowed us to book them for two days.

For many brides, the choice to hire a videographer is a tricky one. For me, it was a no-brainer. My parents love videotaping everything. We have an entire cabinet in our house devoted to dozens upon dozens of videos of my brother and I from childhood. During graduations, I could always pick my mom out of the crowd: she was the one wielding the giant video camera. Even today, most family get-togethers revolve around my parents pulling out a home video for the amusement of our relatives and friends. There was no question that my wedding day would be videotaped– professionally, no less.
Let me begin this entry by saying that I LOVE great wedding videographers. I adore the finished product of well filmed and edited wedding videos that can capture the magic of a wedding, like the video Mrs. Emerald posted from Still Motion. A talented, professional videographer can immortalize a wedding day into a treasured keepsake for years to come.
Unfortunately, the Eggplants hired the OPPOSITE of a good wedding videographer.
In my last post I mentioned how important wedding photography was to me. We budgeted beacoup bucks to hire the best photographers. All of my wedding-related decisions revolved around the question, “Would this look good in our pictures?” Well, you can imagine my horror when I started receiving the non-pro pics from my friends after the wedding, only to find that our wedding videographer had found his way into a fourth of the photographs!
See the evidence below from pictures taken by various friends:

Exhibit A shows our videographer’s first offense: Don’t wear white if you’re a videographer/photographer!
There’s a watermark, but I don’t know how else to convert ISO files to WMV other than using a program that I didn’t want to pay for
- yes, yes, I know I’m a cheapo.
disclaimer: the actual video quality is in HD and way better than this, but I can’t wait for the videographer (he graciously offered to convert it to quicktime for me for blogging purposes) any longer!
One of the newest trends in wedding videography are “Same Day Edits”. Videographers edit footage of the ceremony and the bride and groom getting ready into a video to be shown during the reception. Initially, I wondered if it would be boring for guests to view footage of a ceremony they just saw, but after seeing demos of some truly fabulous same day edits, I’m a believer.
So, last week I was starting to regret not having hired a videographer. I went around in circles when we made our budget, knew we couldn’t afford it and honestly didn’t think I’d miss it that much. Then I thought about how many brides say the day flies by and there is so much that they miss. I didn’t want to miss or forget our ceremony. So I shot an email to Wilson Fontaine and Wes Jones on the off chance that one of them was not booked for our wedding (22 days later). I just didn’t want to kick myself later, and what did I have to lose, right?
Wilson was booked, but Wes just happened to have our date free (the only open date he had in 3 months)! I couldn’t believe it! He was recommended to me by another NY area bride, then I saw that he’s also filmed the recent wedding of Mrs. Snow Pea and the wedding of Mrs. Firefly. I was sold - then I started figuring out how I was going to afford it. We had a number of people decline our invitation to the wedding, so there was some “extra” money in our budget. Also my mother decided to take back a very expensive dress we’d gotten for her to wear to the wedding. She said “take it back, get the coffee tables you guys wanted and put the rest toward the wedding.” I have worked VERY hard to stay right on target the entire time and because I accounted for everything (tips, tax, delivery fees, etc.) I was able to be very true to my budget. Between my accurate budgeting, the 20+ guests not coming and my mother’s extra dress money, this almost did it.
