The next few posts are going to be about my experience with finding a venue. This was such an important aspect of the wedding for both of us, so I want to make sure that I spend the time to describe the process and hopefully give some advice to brides and grooms that are going through this step!
Mr. Coyote and I are having what I like to call a semi-destination wedding.

No, we’re not getting married on a secluded island or on top of Mount Everest.
Instead, we are getting married in my hometown, which is about three hours north of where the mister and I are living right now.
Now, I know this really isn’t a huge distance in comparison to some other brides. In fact, we’re close enough that we usually make the drive to visit my parents about once or twice every other month.
Unfortunately, once we got engaged this meant that practically every trip meant working on some sort of wedding task.
We set up a weekend in October of last year to go check out some venues. This was our first wedding related “thing,” and I may have been a bit, erm, excited to get started.
I set up four venue appointments in two days. That doesn’t sound too bad, right? Yeah, I didn’t think so either. I was wrong. It was totally overwhelming and exhausting. Oh, and remember that Murphy’s Law thing I was talking about the other day? Well, you didn’t really think that we would get through this weekend without an appearance from our good pal Murphy, did you?
If I can give you any advice it’s this: Don’t stretch yourself too thin. Pace yourself and give yourself time to digest everything. Oh, and if you’re anything like me: TAKE NOTES! I felt a little silly at first, but I brought my notebook in with me to every appointment and now, looking back, I am SO glad I did. I was able to jot down anything that popped into my head, and it was great to look back on after our whirlwind weekend.

Next up…I’m gonna show you some sweet, sweet venues!
Are you having a local wedding or are you planning from a distance like we are?
