Once Mr. Genie and I entered the venue, we were whisked away to separate changing rooms. If I thought I was ready to go, I was completely wrong! Once in the ladies’ room, I was fussed over every time I moved. Coco said my aunts were all like “little birds,” always hovering with their hands ready to adjust something or to catch something. We started with my most favorite little details of my ensemble.
The bees! I felt so happy to be wearing the little reps of the hive in my hair and carrying the legacy of bee bloggers before me. These particular bees had recently been passed down to me from Mrs. Unicycle, Mrs. Doe, and Mrs. Mole. And I got to send them off to Mrs. Treasure who has since sent them to Mrs. Gloves and on to Mrs. Otter. I found those genie lamps from Etsy store Legendary Beads. I asked my eldest sister to pin them to my hair.
Next came lots of sari adjustments and jewelry adjustments from every one of my aunts.
I’m so happy to have these next two photos. These two aunts helped raise me. I saw one of them, if not both of them, almost every day growing up. It meant a lot to me that I got a few pictures with just them.
I waited until the last possible moments to have my veil put on. It was really heavy! With all the beading, the veil weighed approximately five pounds. And I just knew once it was on I was going to be balancing a lot to keep it pinned to my fine hair.
It came time to put on my tip, or bindhi. When we looked in the supply box, I realized that I had forgotten it! Everyone was disappointed because it was pretty, but also because my look wouldn’t be complete without it. So, we improvised with lipstick, which took a lot of patience on my part, and skill on my aunts’. Also, I’m just going to say it, I was boiling at this point. It was hot in there with everyone running around and me not being able to move in that heavy sari!
My sister helped give me finishing touches, and I added another coat of lipstick. I was ready to give Mr. Genie another first look.
Did you have a lot of help getting ready? Or did you have a private moment with just one or two of your favorite ladies while putting on the finishing touches?
