Hello, hive! Hello, hello, hello!!! I cannot even begin to explain just how excited I am to be Miss Doily. Mostly this is because I am in shock, and it’s not even 100% hit me that I am a bee. I wanted to be a bee so I can share my wedding journey with others who are in a similar place and hopefully give them ideas and inspiration! I am one of the first of my friends and family to get married, so I am venturing into unknown territory, and guess what? I’m dragging all of you along with me! I hope you have your seat belts buckled—it’s going to be a pretty crazy ride!!
When I applied to be a bee, I had already resigned myself to the fact that I wouldn’t hear for weeks and that I probably would not get chosen the first time out of the gate. Much to my surprise, and the chagrin of Mr. D’s eardrums, I found out only five days after I applied that I would be the newest blogger bee. I went to check my text messages and noticed that I had some emails. At the top of the pile was one with “Weddingbee Application” in the subject line. I opened it, expecting a kind rejection from Pengy. After all, it had only been five days! But it was there, congratulating me. I squealed at the top of my lungs, running into the living room, sending my cats scattering in terror. Mr. D looked alarmed as well. I could barely get the words out, but he managed to get the gist of: “OHMYGOSHITHINKTHEYMADEMEABEE!” After I calmed down, I made him read the email to me out loud so I wasn’t mistaken. He read it and assured me that I wasn’t, and now here I am!
What you need to know about Miss Doily: I’m neurotically neat, I like lists, and I like Post-Its. A lot. I’m a huge football fan: I play fantasy football in a league of 11 guys, and I usually kick most of their butts. I have two cats that I adore. I like to create things and craft all the time. I have been with Mr. D since I was 18 years old and a freshman in college. I am a youth counselor to troubled children and also volunteer with Special Olympics as a coach to some amazing children.
What you need to know about Mr. D: He’s sarcastic. He, too, loves football and even played it for four years in college (and he gets cranky when I kick his butt in fantasy football). He doesn’t really like to craft, and I often have to bribe him to join me in my crafting adventures. He pretends not to be a cat person, but I often catch him whispering sweet nothings to the kittens and giving them treats when he thinks I’m not looking. Mr. D is a self-employed freelance writer and publisher.
So now that you know a little bit about us, you are probably wondering why I chose Miss Doily. Well, there are a number of reasons. One is so I can continue to refer to my fiance as Mr. D since his last name does in fact begin with a D and that is how I have been referring to him on the boards before this. There is also the fact that I was already planning on incorporating doilies into the reception decor to go along with the other vintage, whimsical touches I am using!
I mean, how sweet is this usage of doilies?
Plus, doilies are sweet, lacy, and delicate, and they are reminiscent of simpler times. You will come to find that I love the classics: movies, music, cardigans, and the list goes on. I like to think that I am sweet, but I know I am far from delicate. Can I just say again that I am so excited to be Miss Doily!? Because I am!
Anyway, after seven years of dating, Mr. D and I are planning a sweet, simple wedding filled with lots of whimsical and vintage touches. I know that this wedding is us through and through, and I can’t wait for you to join us on our journey! On that note, I guess I will sign off! See you soon!
