Long ago, we decided that my sister and I would make our own bouquets. Going through a florist is hella expensive, and with just two* of us, I figured we could handle it. I didn’t really care about flowers as long as they were white and pretty.

Backtracking a little to Thursday, the morning of my bachelorette: my sister and I went out to get white flowers and greenery. (Side note: This is super cheap. We spent less than $50 for a ton of flowers.) We brought them home and arranged them into bouquets, taped them up, and put them (in water) in my bedroom, which always stays cooler than the rest of the apartment.
You must have had the experience of bouquets lasting WEEKS in your home, right? Of course these will be okay for 48 hours, RIGHT?

We came home from the bachelorette on Friday around noon, and they were DEAD. Not a little brown or pull-off-a-petal-whatever—completely dead. There were a few pieces that were okay (and the greenery was fine of course), but the hydrangeas and roses were done.
WTF? Heaven knows why that happened, but we couldn’t dwell on it. We stuck them in the car anyway and brought them to the Drake…and after our welcome party, we drove to a downtown grocery store to get more flowers and do a late-night floral remix.

File this under “something that went wrong but no one was the wiser.” They turned out beautifully, and as far as I know, our guests aren’t aware that they weren’t professionally done, let alone that my poor sister was RE-arranging our bouquets at 11:30 the night before the wedding.
With that taken care of, my sister and I turned in, where I proceeded to have the worst night’s sleep of my life. I felt panicky and my brain was on fire with half-dreamed worries and nerves…for no reason, but welcome to the mind of an anxious person. Things were calm again in the morning, though, because it was my wedding day and time to marry Ben at long last.

*I did order corsages for my mom, and Ben’s mom/sister, as well as bouts for Ben, my dad, and the best man. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
