I’m going to interrupt my post-wedding posts for a moment and flashback to some pre-wedding stuff that I got too busy to blog about at the time”¦ like my ring pillow.
I was very indecisive about getting a ring pillow. I couldn’t seem to find one anywhere that I liked. I thought about getting some fabric and making one myself but that plan never came to fruition. Then I found myself two days before the wedding with no ring pillow. At that point, I couldn’t order anything in time and there was nothing good at the store, so it was going to have to be DIY.
Earlier in my planning I had come accross these gorgeous ring “pillows” on the knot and fell in love with the idea of something like this. Of course, I didn’t have the time to make anything quite as good as these, but they were my inspiration.

I went to the craft store in search of bird’s nests similar to the one in the picture above, but I couldn’t find any that were big enough. Instead, I got two grapevine wreaths and filled the inside of the wreath with a round piece of foam covered in some blue silky fabric. The round foam didn’t fit perfectly in the wreath, but I needed something to fill it in and didn’t have time to sew anything.
The foam/fabric base was held in place by pinning it to a strand of ribbon on the underside that was tied to the wreath. Again, probably not the best way to do this, but we did it all very last minute and with what craft supplies we had on hand.
Next we used a hot glue gun to attach some reindeer moss. Here is my lovely sister and maid of honor working on that.
Then we put a mini bird’s nest on top of the moss to hold the rings. The gap in the front part was later filled in with more blue fabric. I just forgot to take a picture it after we finished it.
I suppose they turned out kind of like a low-rent version of the pillows that inspired me, but it only took us about an hour to make them and they were also really cheap. We made two of them (because I had two ring bearers so I let them each carry one ring) for less than $15.
Grapevine wreath = $1/each
Foam base = $0.50/each
Fabric = $2.00 (remnant from craft store and was also used for flower girl baskets)
Bag of reindeer moss = $5.00 (also used for flower girl baskets)
Small bird’s nests = $1/each
TOTAL = $12 for two ring pillows
Here a couple shots of the finished product from our wedding day. Not too bad for such a last-minute project, eh?
