When I purchased my first bridal magazine, it was not long after we got engaged. As I was flipping through it, I saw an ad for a rentable tuxedo, and I knew I was looking at our groomsmen’s tuxes.
Once that was decided, we started thinking about tie style. Sparky knew he wanted a bow tie for himself because “that’s what you wear with a tuxedo.” That was just fine with me—I like bow ties.
Since the ladies will be wearing royal blue, I thought it would like nice if the fellas were in royal blue bow ties. Sparky vetoed that for himself (he wants a black bow tie) but was more than happy to let the guys sport a pop of blue.
Duchess Satin Bow Tie from The Dessy Group / Sparky will have one like this in black.
To finalize the look we decided to go with suspenders (a personal favorite of mine) and royal blue pocket squares.
Now, for the dads we decided to go with a basic black tux (still Vera Wang). I’ve never seen my dad that dressed up, so I’m excited to see what he looks like—sharp, I hope!
Instead of bow ties for the dads, we decided to change it up a bit and give them longer ties. This way they are congruent with the overall look but are still set apart. I actually stumbled across the perfect ties when I was shopping with MOH Tart and purchased them at a great price.
I’m really happy with our choices, and hopefully the groomsmen and dads will be, too!
How did you plan the looks for the important men in the wedding? Any chance encounters like me and the bridal magazine or just your regular trip to a rental store?
