If it weren’t for Thumbtack.com, we might have never found a caterer.
While I was attempting to find a caterer for a reception with six people, Thumbtack appeared in my Google search results, like manna from heaven. After answering a few questions about the type of service you need, Thumbtack sends that information to relevant service professionals, who then offer you quotes with a price estimate, verified reviews, and a personal message. It’s free and super easy to use; I can’t recommend it enough! Within an hour after I sent my request, Thumbtack emailed me, stating a caterer was available and interested in working with me.
Right off the bat, Adam from Thyme To Serve was willing to create a customized, vegetarian menu at a reasonable price. (Mr. Wellies and I decided early on that we would have a vegetarian reception: I’m a vegetarian, Mr. Wellies eats vegetarian at home, and having a vegetarian reception keeps it kosher.) Adam’s enthusiasm was contagious. When he suggested a tapas-style main course, with eight or nine small plates, I was sold. Like Will’s dad on Will & Grace, I can make a meal just from appetizers. Once I told Adam what kind of food Mr. Wellies and I like, he presented us with these options:
- fried ricotta puffs
- broccoli bites
- toasty pumpkin chickpea fritters
- vegetarian spring rolls
- baked tempura vegetables with miso-mustard sauce
- avocado, cream cheese, and salsa puffed pastries
- curried sweet potato chips
- Indian spiced sweet potato patties
- spinach and artichoke dip in wanton wrappers
- crunchy roasted chickpeas
- olive tapenade and guacamole with bleu cheese, sage, and roma tomatoes
- French onion soup stuffed mushrooms

It was like Adam had read our minds and listed all of our favorite appetizers. We get to have spring rolls, tempura, and spinach and artichoke dip at our wedding?! February can’t get here soon enough.
Were you able to customize your wedding menu? If not, how would you customize it, if you could?
