Four out of five of my bridesmaids live far away from me, so I didn’t really get to enjoy a fun way of asking them to be in the wedding. I suppose I could have sent something in the mail, but I was too impatient!
I told MOH Michelle right after we got engaged that if we were going to have a wedding party, she would for sure be in it, because I figured if we only chose one person each, she’d be my choice.
When I got the official go-ahead from Mr. Dragon, I asked everyone but BM Ashley over the internet—not that fancy, but I got to enjoy excited replies rolling in through the day! So why did I not ask Ashley? Well, at the time she was living a few hours away (she came back last winter), but I lucked out that weekend because she just so happened to be in town visiting and we had made plans to spend some quality time together later that evening. I wanted to ask her in person.
Now, my town does not have…anything…in the way of craft supplies, really. We don’t even have a Walmart near us! I only had about an hour between work and other plans, so I headed to the grocery store to see what I could drum up.
Ashley loves purple. When we lose her in a crowd, it’s easiest just to look for her signature purple hoodie. When I saw this blank card I knew that, even if it had nothing to do with our wedding “look,” she’d love it!
I bought it, took it home, and glittered it up a bit. For the inside, I busted out the Martha Stewart glitter pen and some coloured Sharpies.
It was about as fancy as I could get using grocery-store supplies, what I had at home, and an hour of time, but I figured she’d love it for the colour alone.
And I was right! I handed it over to her in the car when we picked her up for the night, and she was positively giddy, especially when she read the inside. With a resounding yes, she was in the bridesmaid gang!
How did you ask people to join your wedding party?
