- Decorative craft or scrapbook paper
- Plain white computer paper
- Double sided clear craft tape
- A round plastic lid or container
- Miniature candy, treats, etc.
*You may struggle with creating these favors at first, but once after folding a couple of fortune cookie favors and practice, you will have it mastered! Start off by practicing on scrap paper you may have lying around your home until beginning.
Step 1: Start by using the round plastic lid or container as a template to trace circles on your decorative or scrapbook paper. Fit as many as you can on each piece of paper but make sure each circle traced is even, and perfectly round. Using your scissors, begin cutting out each circle.
Step 2: Next, begin folding each circle in half with the pattern side in. Then carefully make a crease along the folded edge.
Step 3: Open your circles next, and then begin turning them with the patterned side out.
Step 4: Next, turn your circles so the crease you made in the second step is vertical. Fold the circles in half horizontally, with the patterned side out, and the rounded side down, but do not crease. Hold the half circle on the bottom using your thumb and index finger. Slowly and carefully use the index finger from your other hand to push in the middle of the folded side of the circle at the crease. As you slowly push in you will begin to notice the top corners will start to move upward.
Step 5: Continue to hold the half circle and use your other hand to pull the corners in until they almost meet and form the fortune cookie shape you are looking for.
Step 6: Depending on the consistency of your paper choice, if your cookie favor does not want to stay folded in place, use a tiny piece of the clear double sided craft tape to keep the halves together so that the fortune cookie shape stays in place.
Step 7: Now here comes the extra fun part! Begin creating your fortunes by typing them on your computer and print them out on regular white printing paper. Depending on the size of your fortune cookie favors determine your font size and style that will best suit your needs. If you prefer to hand write your fortunes, you are more than welcomed to! Try using lined paper such as loose leaf paper to keep your fortunes straight and aligned when you are writing them. When writing your fortune cookie messages be sure to also use the dark colored fine pointed pen to avoid any messages coming out sloppy, or unclear. Some examples of messages include; “thank you for coming to celebrate our special day” or something as simple as wishing your guests “best regards for you today and always.” Whichever message you choose, make sure it wishes your guests good fortune!
Step 8: Next, cut your fortunes into small slips of paper that will be able to fit into each fortune cookie favor. Approximately two to three inches long each.
Step 9: Finally, tuck the fortunes and miniature treats (if chosen to use) away into one of the open ends of the fortune cookie favor. Display the fortune cookie favors in a bowl or tray for your guests to enjoy throughout your celebration or leave them on the tables as your main favor and enjoy!
