Okay everybody, so this DIY is actually a product of my imagination. I got the inspiration when I saw a jewelry mold made out of hot glue. When hot glue hardens it becomes almost like a plastic material. I wanted to create something out of this material because it has so many possibilities and I think that’s awesome. Anyway, these place cards utilize hot glue and glitter and I think they turned out pretty cute. The ones I made are winter themed and sparkly, but I’m sure you DIY divas can think of all kinds of different designs. The way to think about this DIY is like painting with fabric paint or paint pens. If you can do those types of painting, you can do this. So without further ado, let’s get to gluing!
- Hot glue gun
- Hot glue sticks (Plenty of them!)
- Wax paper
Step 1: Lay out your wax paper and begin gluing in the shape of a snowflake.
Step 2: Continue your snowflake and be sure all your glue connects so it won’t fall apart later.
Step 3: Glue an inner layer on your snowflake to add to the design and sprinkle some glitter on the layer before it dries.
Step 4: Let your snowflake dry completely then peel it off of the wax paper.
You should have no problem peeling your shape off of the paper. Other surfaces are less of a guarantee. For instance, silicone works great, but other plastics, not necessarily. Some sites recommend glass, but I have to say, I tried this on my glass desk and it stuck horribly!
Step 5: Repeat steps 1 through 4 to create another snowflake.
Step 6: Now you need to write your guest’s name in cursive with the glue.
Try to glue in one continuous motion. Think cursive.
Step 7: Sprinkle glitter generously on your name before it dries.
You’ll want to make sure the entire name is covered with the glitter or it will look splotchy. Also, to conserve, gently fold your wax paper and tip any excess glitter back into its container.
Step 8: Peel the name up off the wax paper.
Step 9: Take your two snowflakes and line them up underneath your name with one at the front and one at the end.
Step 10: Once you’ve got the placement right, glue the name and the snowflakes together.
Now you should have one snowflake hot glue place card. Again, don’t be afraid to put your own touches on these and play around with different colors and ideas. I found that the finer glitters looked a bit classier and less elementary-school-craft. Whatever your choices, I’m sure they’ll turn out great. I hope you all enjoyed this winter place card DIY!
