Hair accessories are the perfect way to add sparkle, detail and a little fun to you or a child’s wardrobe for the big day. Hats, braids, and clips are all great choices to infuse color, texture, pattern or shine! Flower hair clips are my personal favorite. Inspired by luxury children’s wear designer, Nancy Vuu, I made these sparkly flower hair clips! They are the unexpected wedding detail I’ve been craving. In a few easy steps, you’ll be able to bring Vuu’s high fashion runway to your very own bridal aisle!

Supplies:

  • Decorative flower
  • Swarovski gem pack

  • Hair Clip

Step 1: First, you will gather your supplies. What do you want your flower hair clip to look like? This is where we decide! Select the perfect flower, hair clip, luxury crystals, and adhesive. The flower will have only petals and no stem so that it may adhere evenly to the hair clip. Your flowers can be any material from pure silk to cotton or even chiffon depending on the formality of your occasion. But be careful! Thin materials like chiffon or silk show dried glue more than thicker materials like velvet or denim. Feeling creative? I like to hand-sew a flower from matching pieces of fabric from an already existing scheme!

You don’t have to worry about what the hair clip itself looks like as much as what the flower looks like because the hair clip won’t be seen as it will be hidden by hair or covered by the flower. Hot glue works best for fastening the flower to the clip while gem glue works best for the adhering the crystals to the flower petals.

Step 2: Second, select some gems! Luxury gems come in a variety of sizes and a rainbow of colors! There are yards of yellows, realms of reds, and a plethora of purple crystals! Some of the colored crystals change depending on the light or way you look at them. Azul blue crystals can be your something blue, or aurora crystals can spice up the plain white petals of your hair flower clip.

After you’ve selected your favorite flower, hair clip, and crystals, it is time to adhere them together!

Step 3: Next, use a pair of tweezers to pick up a crystal one at a time. Dap a drop of gem glue to a piece of paper so you can easily dip your gems into the glue without making a mess. Drip the flat, silver, non-sparkly side of the gem into the gem glue and gently wipe off the excess glue by sliding the gem an inch across the paper. This step ensures that the glue will not bubble over the edge of the gem, which leaves an unattractive fabric stain and glue bubble!

Step 4: Once the crystal has the gem glue on it, press it against the spot of the flower petal that you think looks best! I like to bedazzle my gems into the shape of a design, like a heart, or you can have them like a sunburst! A sunburst is when they are more concentrated toward the center and gradually radiate outward like rays of sunshine.

Step 5: Finally, it is time for the crystals to dry. Hold the gem in place about 10 seconds for the glue to set. Once it sticks, you don’t want to wiggle it around so it is best to have an idea in mind of where you want the crystals to go. The drying process works best when you have at least four hours to let the sparkly creation set!

Voila! After all of the gems are dried and the sparkles have set, your new masterpiece is ready to debut down the bridal aisle!
